…in both the 45 and 53 lb brackets. Multiple gold medals in his season’s final tournament is the storybook way to end a wrestling year. It’s always great when a plan comes together, and Satchel ends his season a dual-weight champion, giving up eight pounds to take the second bracket.
All told, he finished the tournament season having wrestled in six open tournaments — medaling in each one — collecting 4 first-place finishes, 2 second-place finishes, and 1 fourth-place finish while amassing a record of 16-4 with 9 wins by pin.
Now it’s time to rest. For him and me both. But mostly for him.
Until next season. Dream big dreams, champ! Your Mom and Dad are very proud of you, and lots of Dad’s readers — save maybe Kevin, who doesn’t want to hear boo about you, you unwelcome interloper — are very happy and excited for you.
update: Satchel’s open season bounty:
Magnificent season and a grandly compiled record. Way to go Satch, and thanks too for the pleasures to be got watching your matches. But with rest comes study, the scholars told us. Lift that barge, tote that bale, get a little . . . ah, nevermind.
Now it’s time to rest.
He’s earned it.
Hell yeah! Eight pounds when you weigh less than 50 is quite a bit to give up, lol.
The weight difference as a percentage would be the equivalent of a 140 pounder wrestling someone weighing 165.
Congratulations, Satch!
Next season he can watch the other li’l wrasslers get the fear in their eyes when they are matched with him.
Sweet dreams, Big Guy.
Excellent, young man and outstanding job Mom and Dad too.
Whoever is the Tony Hawk of wrestling, better watch his back.
(Can’t say “Lance Armstrong of [insert name of sport here]” anymore…)
Congrats to Satch.
Congratulations to Mom and Dad for supporting Satchel.
And no drool. Which is also good. It’s an evil photographer who times the shutterclick to a pendulation.
Look at all the loot!!
You’re gonna need a bigger house ….
Being a dad is good. Being a son with a dad is even better.
sdferr keeps flipping the bird
should I be offended or amused?
Offended, definitely. Then I can justify all manner of invective against someone else.
You’re amazing, Satch! Congrats on double gold! Your Dad needs to build you a trophy case.
like
Very impressive! Satch has a grasp of wrestling fundimentals that at his age is incredible (I agree with others…. he has a bridge escape to envy!)… but the thing I liked the most? In the championship match, he patted his opponent on the back after he got a bloody nose and was humble in victory. Jeff, you and your wife have every reason to be proud… you are raising an outstanding young man.
Trophy case? Ha! He’ll need an annex in the house by the time he’s a senior in high school. A trophy case will collapse under its own weight by then.
