Byron York, writing at the Corner, notes:
There has been a brisk traffic today in buying web addresses that could be used to oppose Edith Brown Clement, were she to become the new Supreme Court nominee. The addresses opposeclement.org and supportclement.org were both purchased by the anti-Bush Leadership Conference on Civil Rights today—allowing the group to simultaneously oppose Clement and stop her supporters from using the pro-Clement address. Another address, stopclement.org, was purchased by the the group People for the American Way on July 8, two days after NRO published an article, “The Coming Web Attack on the Court Nominee,” which outlined how not only People for the American Way, but NARAL Pro-Choice America, the Leadership Conference, and others had purchased addresses like stopgonzales.com, stopwilkinson.com, stopluttig.com, and many others.
None of which will matter if the President simply sticks to his guns, nominates the kind of anti-legislative judge he promised to nominate, and the Gang of 14 sticks to its agreement.
But how likely is that? On FOXNews today, Barbara Boxer described “extraordinary circumstances”—the requisite standard for overriding the judicial compromise agreement—as being anything that would upset established law and “roll-back rights,” among them “workers rights,” “environmental legislation,” and “privacy rights.” Which would seem to suggest that at least some Democrats will push for a filibuster in the event that George Bush nominates someone other than Ralph Nader.
We shall see.

I’ll admit to being a little disappointed if it does turn out to be Clement. Nothing against her—I’m sure she’s a fine judge—but I was hoping for someone more distinguished, with a bit more star power.
Boxer is not part of the “gang of 14” as I recall, so she’s blowing smoke out her ***!
In related news, both “oposeclement.org” and “suportclement.org” feature barely legal hot nude teens. About which the obstructionist senior senator from Massachusetts finds nothing objectionable. But not for want of looking.
ABC says its not Clement.

In fairness to Bush, there aren’t a whole lot of “stars” available. Luttig and Kozinski are stars. Posner is a superstar, but he’s too old and controversial. It’s pretty thin gruel after those three, although that doesn’t mean the pick won’t dazzle when given his/her chance on the Court.
I hope ABC is right about it not being Clement. The lack of any paper trail there is giving me Souter flashbacks big time.
I will be very happy if it’s Garza, Luttig or McConnell. Anyone else, not so much.
CNN is reporting that Bush will nominate Judge John Roberts for the Supreme Court.
