Drawing on “lesson” of Newtown, CO Dems attack law-abiding gun owners; meanwhile, Newtown residents arm up

Ironic, isn’t it?

Or is that tragic? Or pathetic? I always gets those confused.

But no matter: because one thing we can all agree on is this: it is most certainly opportunistic and cynical and brackets the very idea of a representative government (in a Denver Post opinion poll, over 70% of Coloradans want to see the bill overturned, while only 29% support it; and that’s because Coloradans who thought they were voting for “moderate Democrats” to take over the state legislatures were instead voting for Obama / Bloomberg puppets, leftist petty tyrants whose goal is to rob of us our rights in tiny increments as part of a perpetual ideological war to “fundamentally transform” the US into a liberal fascist state).

Frankly, I’d like to see Colorado divide into two separate states: one that follows its own constitution and the federal constitution; and one whose law makers take on the role of empathetic philosopher kings and queens who promise to treat their subjects well, provided those subjects yield to the superior genius of the ruling class, which always knows best, be it about the size of their sodas, the pressure of their toilets and shower heads, the make-up of their lightbulbs, or the salt and transfat in their foods.

I’d give the latter 5 years before the former was in a position to buy back Denver and Boulder for pennies on the dollar — which we’d do only on the condition that every person in the failed leftist state agree to take their dumb asses elsewhere.

Like, say, Oakland.

In Minnesota, the Twin Cities are our Denver, in that the majority of the people outside the cities are sane, honest citizens who mostly want to be left alone. Likewise, the people outside the cities could do just fine without the cities, but the reverse isn’t true.

There is only one way to stop incidents like the one in Newtown, and that is for gun-free zones to cease, and for all soft targets to be populated by at least some people who are armed, thus changing their soft target status. Everyone here knows this.

We will never be rid of the kinds of people who go on mass-shooting rampages, but we also know that once a mass shooter sees resistance, the majority 0f the time he gives up and shoots himself.

Of course, stopping rampage shootings is not the goal here. It never was.

…leftist petty tyrants whose goal is to rob of us our rights in tiny increments as part of a perpetual ideological war…

What I can’t understand is the sudden rush. The long war of incremental gains has served the Left beautifully over the past 60 years, as demonstrated by their command of mass media, mass culture, and redefinition of terms. Why the sudden move to take away everyone’s firearms? Surely they know that it’s the toughest political battle they will face, and the must equally be aware that even if they succeed at the legislative level, they cannot actually execute the policies.

They’re stirring up a hornet’s nest, and I just can’t see what advantage they get. I understand the argument that they’re trying to get us to react violently so that they’ll have an excuse to drive us out and/or lock us up, but I also understand that that strategy is terribly flawed, inasmuch as they’ve already driven us out of “polite” society, and they don’t have the firepower or the stomach to come after us.

    So what gives?

Has Magpul announced where they will be moving?

  4. daveinsocal says:

So would we, here in California. Unfortunately, it never went anywhere. I guess we’ll have to wait for the actual collapse to occur first.

I heartily supported Motion View’s name suggestions for the two new states: American California and Fruitloopistan.

  5. daveinsocal says:

Why the sudden move to take away everyone’s firearms?

I believe it was pure impulsiveness. They decided (wrongly as it turns out) that they were close enough to sprint to the goal line.

  6. sdferr says:

Venturing a guess as to “what gives” Squid, the answer might entail what the ancients called thumos, the active aspect of the human spirit from which [self]righteous anger arises — think Achilles’ rage at Agammemnon’s seizure of his girlfriend — which isn’t necessarily a controlled calculation ensuring advantage, though sometimes it can result in advantage. I’ve pointed to this short video as a kind of exemplar of the origin of this aspect of our moral foundations, though only half in jest and half seriously.

  7. Colorado’s government has declared itself dishonest.

    Bet nobody saw that coming.

  8. RI Red says:

    Dishonest, mcg? How about illegitimate?

  9. geoffb says:

The left has had a long standing internal war between those who think that the time to go all in and just take it all over by force is now, for any given now, and those who think that stealth is still the way to go.

The “just do it” crowd always has the upper hand when things look to be going smoothly to the left as they want utopia and complete power to arrive before they die. This life being the only one they believe they have to get to their goal.

By believing their own propaganda about the 2012 election they think now is the time. Waiting even a year or two risks a loss, in 2014, of their power. So they will be all in for this year at least.

From AP report: “The shootings convinced Hickenlooper, a gun rights advocate, and other state Democrats to take on gun control.”
    Jeff, wtf?

  11. VekTor_ says:

Come July 2nd, it’s gonna be Pogo revisited: “We have met the outlaw, and he is us.”

This is gonna be a really interesting next 12 months… in the apocryphal Chinese curse sense of “may you live in interesting times”.

  13. JD says:

    Aggressively dishonest and mendoucheous.

  14. RI Red says:

    Twatwafflicious, too.

  15. bgbear says:

motionview’s CA division would not serve many conservatives in SLO and Santa Barbara counties very well.

Is it that hard to understand that a determined person who is not afraid to die will always be able to commit horrendous acts. Eliminating one resource/tool will change nothing.

I believe the greatest mass murder in this country was committed using fire. Try outlawing fire. So easy a caveman can do it.

  16. Jeff G. says:

It’s bullshit, RI Red. He was wooed by the WH and Mayor Bloomberg. And he’s going to meet fierce resistance, I can tell you that much.

yep bin laden and the muslim bros.

  18. leigh says:

bgbear, there are actually many conservatives in San Francisco, as well. They are kind of like the Cave-dwellers of DC in that you don’t really know about them unless you are one of them.

My dad and step-mom are part of the conservative crowd in Santa Barbara county. They and their pals have bought up much of the beachfront in order to force the hippies your way. Sorry, man.

  19. Dishonest, mcg? How about illegitimate?

By definition. But “dishonest” in reference to my maxim on what an honest government does not do.

  20. SBP says:

“In Minnesota, the Twin Cities are our Denver, in that the majority of the people outside the cities are sane, honest citizens who mostly want to be left alone. ”

True in virtually every state. The corn farmers in downstate Illinois don’t heap much love on the Chicago machine, that’s for sure.

  21. SBP says:

“I believe the greatest mass murder in this country was committed using fire. Try outlawing fire. So easy a caveman can do it.”

Depends on how you define “mass murder”. 9/11 was box cutters. Happy Land social club was gasoline. Oklahoma City bombing was fertilizer and diesel fuel.

The largest school attack was done with dynamite, I believe.

Of course all of these pale against the death toll racked up left-wing governments.

  22. leigh says:

Yes, Spies. That was in Bath, Michigan back in the 20s (I think). Deranged farmer kills wife, torches his farm, including his livestock and then blows up the local school he had previously wired up with explosives while working as a custodian. He drove his car or truck to the school to detonate it, shot a few folks and killed himself, as well.

Guy was an over-achiever and obviously batshit crazy.

  23. geoffb says:

Michael Bane issued a warning to gun owners who either live in Denver and its adjacent towns or in Boulder. On today’s Downrange Radio podcast, Michael, citing private conversations with his friends in law enforcement, warned that police in Denver and Boulder will be enforcing the Colorado Magazine Ban to the letter of the law. Listen to his podcast for more info. Frankly, it would make me very hesitant to visit the Denver/Boulder area.

  24. geoffb says:

Bloomberg’s group finally has decided what they want. A Federal gun (owner) registry.

  25. palaeomerus says:

“On today’s Downrange Radio podcast, Michael, citing private conversations with his friends in law enforcement, warned that police in Denver and Boulder will be enforcing the Colorado Magazine Ban to the letter of the law”

Good. All it takes is ONE GUY with a sentence (for standing) and a good lawyer and this shit should come crashing down in the courts (or at least get gutted) AND become a huge campaign issue in CO that will cause dem candidates to sharply and visibly wedge from their party line or lose .

  26. Will no one rid us of this turbulent nanny?

  27. SBP says:

“Frankly, it would make me very hesitant to visit the Denver/Boulder area.”

I was in Denver for a meeting some years ago. It seemed like a nice place, and I always intended to go back when I had time to do the tourist thing.

Not now. I’ll take my vacation dollars (under the increasingly unlikely scenario that I ever get any again) elsewhere.

Doesn’t Colorado get a lot of income from hunters? The various hunting orgs should boycott. Or are they already, and I’m just not up to speed?

  28. leigh says:

The only time I’ve ever been in Denver, has been to the airport. In fact all the time I’ve ever spent in Colorado has been in Denver’s airport.

I’d rather go to Montana if it was for vacation.

  29. Jeff G. says:

Denver and Boulder police can try to enforce the mag ban to the letter of the law, but there’s no enforcement mechanism. Just say you owed the mag before July 1.

If they then confiscate the mags, ask them on what grounds they are attempting to do so. If they tell you it’s up to you to convince a CO court that you owed the mags before the ban date, sue the police for violation of your 5th, 6th, and 14th amendment rights; then civilly, sue them for theft of property and recovery of court costs, plus money for your time.

All Hickenlooper has done is open up CO to embarrassing court challenges, recall elections, and ballot initiatives.

The Dems had better get to work redistricting the entire state to make sure they hold any of their seats outside of the urban centers.

  30. Jeff G. says:

I’d also like to see a challenge brought that questions how the police can be exempted.

  31. RI Red says:

Sent an email to “gun rights advocate” Hickenlooper re my disposable income and hunting, skiing, vacations in CO. Apparently he didn’t care.

  32. serr8d says:

Doubt if Denver gets the NRA convention anytime soon.

Speaking of which, this year in Houston, early May I think. Anybody going?

  33. bgbear says:

yes, I was thinking something like Happy Land old fashion crazy murder without the political baggage.

Bath, MI is a good example of how changing a law would not necessarily prevent multiple deaths. Say if dynamite purchase was as restricted then as it is today. Kehoe could have just pre-placed fire bombs in the school and blocked the exits.

  34. palaeomerus says:

“his year in Houston, early May I think.”

    Well. That should be…um…humid.

  35. geoffb says:

CO-based mag makers Magpul are pulling out. Here’s their statement, via Facebook:

With the signing of the HB 1224, we want to reassure Colorado residents, now officially in occupied territory, that the “Boulder Airlift” will continue until we can no longer legally ship to CO residents at the approach of the July 1 deadline, so long as demand continues.

We are looking at additional ways to give Coloradans the opportunity to buy the magazines they need prior to the enactment date, as although we’ve been swamped with tens of thousands of orders, our shipping department limitations have only allowed us to get a few hundred thousand magazines out to CO residents…a small portion of our monthly production. We’ll continue to support the Airlift as long as demand exists, and up to the active date of the legislation, and we’ve allocated a little over a million magazines for the effort up to that point, give or take.

Customers in the rest of the country should rest assured that the airlift only takes a small portion of our production, and magazines and other products are continuing to ship to the rest of the nation. Our transition to a new home will occur in a phased and orderly a manner to allow us to continue to serve our customers during the move, as well as to allow an orderly transition for affected employees. We are actively working on those plans.

  36. daveinsocal says:

    Hickenbloomberg:

‘I have talked to many, literally like over a hundred people. Almost everyone says, ‘yeah, as long as there’s no centralized database. As long as you’re not taking weapons away from us, but you’re just making sure that when we sell a weapon it doesn’t go to someone with a violent criminal history or severe mental illness, yeah that makes sense.’’ A constant drone of honking car horns could be heard from inside the governor’s office, part of a demonstration against the gun control measures. A hired airplane flew over the Capital for hours towing a banner that read, “HICK: DO NOT TAKE OUR GUNS.”…For all of their fervor, Hickenlooper sees the demonstrators a small minority.

He practically had to shout over the noise of all the people passionately protesting against the bills, but “almost everyone” is all for them.

  37. Jeff G. says:

Guess Hick missed the 70-30 split in the intentionally tricksy-worded Denver Post poll.

Colorado is going to war with Denver/Boulder.

Yes, that’s pretty much Houston about 10 out of 12 months per year. :-D

  39. leigh says:

I’ve never been to Houston when it wasn’t flooded.

  40. Ernst Schreiber says:

Colorado had better win, else Denver/Boulder will never forgive Colorado.
