I’ve written on this now quite a bit, but we are nearing the progressive end game. States with Democrat-majority legislatures are going to push through measures to deprive their citizens of Constitutional protections regardless of what their constituencies want, because the left is all about centralizing government, and the allegiance of the contemporary Democrat state legislator is to the national Party. Obama and the progressives are essentially running Democrat-led states.
Without changes to the language it is clear that the CO high-cap mag ban will effectively ban nearly all detachable magazines, because nearly all magazines, having removable base plates (this is how you clean them, after all), can be extended. And it is that potential for extension that makes them illegal under the law as written. Whether that was intentional or not is a matter of some dispute: the CO Dems who introduced the various bills clearly know nothing about what it is they are hoping to ban; and yet at the same time, we here in CO are aware that Bloomberg and the White House have been whispering in the ears of state Democratic lawmakers at every step.
— Turning Colorado into a de facto police state. Because there are no enforcement measures in place for such laws — and no readily available way to prove when “grandfathered” magazines (which can’t be transferred, and are to be turned in upon the death of the original owner) were purchased, or whether a private exchange went through a background check — the police will have at their discretion the power to arrest you if you possess a magazine capable of exceeding 15 cartridges, or if you have a gun at all, really, and force you to go to court to prove your innocence. Which will cost you time and money, and is a backdoor way to convince some people that gun ownership isn’t worth the potential hassles, while convincing others that a gun registry is needed to aid in the upkeep of these “common sense” laws.
Also, the arbitrary number in the high-cap mag ban works as a backdoor ban on “assault rifles,” many of which come standard with magazines that hold 20-30 rounds. It also assaults successful private businesses in Colorado, from Magpul on down, and will affect the tourism industry as well. Save for those who are planning to vacation here as an alternative to Amsterdam.
It’s true that a number of Sheriffs and state legislators have said they will not follow or enforce any such laws. But that still leaves once-free citizens in a position where they must rely on the good graces of law enforcement and government to retain their natural rights.
Recalls are in order. Along with ballot initiatives. And court challenges.
The fight is only beginning. Hickenlooper is willing to reject the wishes of the people of the state and sign into law what is clearly a dramatic legislative overreach, one that passed with absolutely no bi-partisan support. Because the left has dropped the gauntlet. It’s pure power — democratic tyranny — that they plan to use to reshape society. They will run as moderates and fiscal conservatives, then use their majorities to ram through partisan legislation that robs people of ever more of their liberties. They will and must control us. Or else how can they be expected to bring about Utopia?
I hope the taste of NY Mayor Bloomberg’s cock was worth it, Governor.
Of course he will sign it. Democrat politicians in the past few elections have proven they are very good at analyzing the electorate and figuring out what they can get away with. They are fully aware that the attention span of the majority of voters is only as long as the media keeps reporting a story, and Democrats own the media. By the time the next election rolls around it will have been months since a single story about this bill has been written.
Secproggie totalitarian oligarchs like Bloomberg suck underage goat balls.
It takes quite awhile to forget that time you were robbed and raped. Even if you are not reminded of it by others.
OT: bizarrely, LinkedIn just suggested I might want to LinkIn with one “Mark L’Hommedieu”. Note the spelling of the first name.
I don’t think it’s the same guy, but I had to Google it. Guy “works” for some network-marketing company. Too old to be the same guy; too young to be Same Guy’s dad.
ProteinWisdom still shows up rather prominently on that Google Search.
[…] Don’t think for a second there won’t be others. Democrats may believe they have the whip hand in the gun control debate, but they’re about to learn what happens when they take things several steps too far. […]
Breitbart reports that Sen. Mrs. Dianne “RockChunk” Feinstein’s ‘assault-weapons’ ban bill will not be a part of the Senate Democrat’s gun control (grab) bill introduced on the floor, though it may find a means to enter as an amendment (likely without sufficient Democrat support to move forward). In addition: “Democrat insiders say the universal background check, supported only by Democrats, will not head to the floor either.”
Happily, we live in a county where the sheriff knows what’s what.
Other sheriffs feel the same way.
To me, what is happening in Colorado is more depressing than any gun grabs in the North East or soda bans in NYC. We are becoming a nation of Sallies and even the once proud and independent West is not immune. I think we are truly boned. The left is doing its best to indoctrinate our children. No cupcake or poptart can will be ignored if it can be used to demonize the second amendment. This is the long con that we are losing. In another generation our children will too be scared and docile to even look at a gun.
So it looks like Governor Moonbeam, Jr. is entering the 2016 presidential race after all.
And will likely wind up as VP on the ticket with Liz Warren.
Running against the GOP nominee, Michael Bloomberg.
We are so, so screwed…
No problem that can’t be fixed by restricting the franchise….
Oh, my. Cody Wilson of Defense Distributed has obtained his FFL for both sales and manufacture of firearms.
Shit is fixing to get interesting.
Recalls are in order. Along with ballot initiatives. And court challenges.
Has work started on any of these?

Awright!!
Yes, but can you 3D-print smokeless powder? Or primers?
I suspect that’s going to be the next step – probably something about expanding regulations to require a federal explosives license or similar to purchase/possess…
If one could make them 150 years ago, they can be made now and in the future and they take much less in the way of equipment than the machining necessary to produce firearms. If they can’t stop meth, how can they stop gunpowder?

Yes, there are recall petitions for at least 3 or 4 Dems, including the Senate President. And one reason some of us held out hope Hickenlooper wouldn’t sign away our rights was the certainty of facing a ballot initiative come 2014.
Of course, maybe he’s been reassured that the national Dems will step in with big money to try to defeat such a thing. For the children.
And/or they have been promised good paying prestigious positions for passing/signing this while threats were issued of primary challenges if they didn’t. Democrats know of both carrot and stick in the political world.

A reason for the gun control push?
I prefer to have my nanobot minions assemble them from component atoms.
