The road to HEALING

From the San Francisco Chronicle:

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, unapologetic in the face of recent criticism that he has been too tough on his political opposition, said in San Francisco this week that Republicans “all behave the same, and they all look the same. … It’s pretty much a white Christian party.”

“We’re more welcoming to different folks, because that’s the kind of people we are,’’ Dean said Monday, responding to a question about diversity during a forum with minority leaders and journalists.

[…] “You know, the Republicans are not very friendly to different kinds of people. They’re a pretty monolithic party. Pretty much, they all behave the same, and they all look the same. … It’s pretty much a white Christian party,’’ the former Vermont governor told a San Francisco roundtable Monday in reaction to a question about the lack of outreach to minority communities by political parties.

[…] After the story of Dean’s comments broke on SFGate.com, The Chronicle Web site, on Tuesday and was picked up by the Drudge Report, DNC spokesman Josh Earnest scrambled to soften the impact of Dean’s comments. While acknowledging that Dean was quoted accurately, Earnest insisted that once again Dean meant to say “Republican leadership.’’

[…] “We need a Democratic National Committee that is convincing white Republican Christians that they should be voting for us—not vilifying them,’’ said [key Democratic party fund-raiser Wade] Randlett, who supported Dean for the chairmanship. “He’s got himself in trouble with social commentary—and that’s not what the DNC chair does.’’

Asked to comment on Mr. Dean’s characterization of Republicans as a white Christian monolith, Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) expressed disappointment with the former Vermont Governor:  “Howard says that like being white and Christian is a bad thing,” the Senator told a small gathering of reporters.  Byrd was then quickly ushered away by several aides after he pressed a quarter into the palm of freshman Senator Barack Obama and demanded the Illinois Democrat “be a good boy and go fetch Mister Bobby a nice cold sodee-pop.”

Gosh, yes, I’m sure Howard Dean meant “republican leaders”.  Similar to when he announced that the republican party was evil, he really meant “republican party leaders are eviL”.

Any bets on how long Dean’s remains DNC chair ?  The whackos love him because he’s their mouthpiece but I can’t imagine democratic movers will put up with Dean’s rhetoric much longer, as its going to continue to cost them elections.

I don’t know what the big deal is. Dean seems like he’s the perfect chairman for the Black Atheist party.

    Except for the skin thing.

No, I think Dean represents the views of most of today’s “liberal” Democrats quite well. The elected officials can’t say so, of course. I think he’ll stay on as party chair indefinitely.

Actually, he said “RC cola.” Heard it myself.

  5. Robert says:

Well, of course, as a Christophobe you’re in agreement with Dean, arencha?

Almost nothing makes me smile wider than when whitey tries to out mau-mau the likes of Maxine Waters.  Speak on it, my pale brother Howard!

(Now, what really makes me smile?  Those rumors of a new UPN sitcom, “Bobby & Barack,” about a truly odd couple – expected for this fall’s lineup…)

I missed the part with the quarter.  I did see him rub his head for luck.

Seems to me Ken Mehlman is an MOT.
