Let me be clear here: Colorado will lose jobs; it will attract more liberals and progressives from states those liberals and progressives have already destroyed who are looking for new fields to plague and plunder.
But worst of all, the Democrat-led legislature is prepared to take away citizens’ legal rights to own STANDARD CAPACITY MAGAZINES on certain very popular magazine-fed rifles. [live feed] They are also taking away the STANDARD CAPACITY MAGAZINES on certain popular semi-automatic pistols chambered in 9mm or .40 or .380.
This is an abuse of legislative power and a backdoor ban on many non-bolt action rifle platforms. Or, to put it another way, it promotes SNIPER-STYLE rifles while creating an effective ban, going forward, on rifles that contain modern-convenience features, like an adjustable stock or a pistol grip.
And yet these Democrat legislators drape themselves in the language of the Declaration and Constitution to pretend that they are acting on behalf of the “common defense” — as if it is law-abiding citizens with high capacity assault rifles who are committing crimes.
The numbers show something entirely other. History shows us that gun-free-zones are the single most common factor in mass shootings — and yet part of what the Democrats will pass is a law to prevent trained, experienced, licensed college students, staff, and faculty, from preventing the next Virginia Tech.
They will also push through a Universal Background Check that will be unenforcible — requiring further modifications down the road, mainly, a “common sense” call for a gun registry in order to allow the UBC to save the children.
And finally, they will pass the costs of those checks onto gun purchasers, essentially gentrifying gun buying and potentially preventing those in the poorest areas where crime is highest from purchasing a firearm for self defense.
It’s a kind of poll tax. And if Republicans passed such a measure with respect to the vote, the Democrats would likely (and rightly) scream racism.
Well, this is no different. It is a racist measure; it is a sop to the wealthy; and it will do nothing to prevent crime. In fact, it will create more victims.
I’m embarrassed for my state. And I’m most embarrassed at the “reasoning” on offer from Democrats that rationalizes a power grab under the guise of public safety.
Constitution? Who needs a Constitution, when laws should be made/interpreted according to opinion polls
At least the County Sheriffs of Colorado have made it clear they’re not going to be supporting any gun restrictions. It’ll be interesting to see how that plays out.
Background checks are racist. Considering that a greater percentage of African American men have criminal records that would bar them from gun ownership than whites, the law will have a disparate impact on minorities.
Any law that has a disparate impact on any minority group is wrong unless progressive political theory decides it is not wrong.
Colorado has steadily declined since I moved here in 2002. Hmmm … I wonder if that is a coincidence. This state is going to blow its revenues on lawsuits. Out here on the western slope, this legislation will be fought.
WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING!
I’M SICK AND TIRED OF THE BLOODSHED!
(But not tired of gun free zones).
Oh, goodie. A promise of MORE measures.
Final passage numbers: Ayes 34. Magazine ban passes. Still has to get past the Senate, but bye-bye Magpul. Time to resist. File suits. And then get rid of every one of these fucking rapists of our Constitution.
I have low expectations that sheriff departments will remain staunch on the issue, however much I respect their stand now. Because of the way it will play out.
As all things progressive, there won’t be a massive push to confiscate, there will be a million opportunistic situations where they seize them quietly, out of the spotlight, “in the investigation of a crime”. Regardless the relevance of the outlawed weapon to what they are investigating.
Like when they are called to a home for disturbing the peace and spot pot plants. Or you get pulled over for a bad tail light and they see a bong in the back seat.
I use those examples because I think it’s funny Colorado legalized pot, and criminalized magazines.
Due to the miracle of Al Gore’s interwebz, I have been listening to live debate on the floor of the Colorado House on HB13-1229 in my West Highland cottage; it seems painfully obvious that all those in favour (essentially those with a D after their name) despise liberty. And, if the quality of their arguments are any measure, they aren’t very bright either.
In case you haven’t seen it:
A tiny school district in southeast Colorado — too small to afford an armed security guard and too far from the nearest town for deputies to respond quickly to an emergency — is the first to announce that its principal and superintendent will soon carry weapons to school.

If idiots like the “progressives” were the norm when this country started, it never would have got anywhere.
Good God Jeff! Man up fer Pete’s sake!
You have initiatives in CO.
Get together some people, raise some money and start the initiative process right right here, right now. Find some vulnerable Dems and start a recall petition. Right here, right now.
Stop puling , start punching.
Jeff, I think soon you will get a feel for what it’s like to be a conservative in California. Wyoming people probably already consider Colorado people like you regard Californians*. A pack of progressive locusts that shouldn’t be allowed in.
*Personally, I think east-coasters invading Vail was your undoing, more than west-coasters, but it’s probably debatable.
hmm hairplugs and moochelle both in colorado
Colorado legislature makes moves on more gun control — with a little extra push from Biden
It’ll be interesting to see how that plays out.
I’ll hazard a guess: the state of Colorado will hold any payments to these counties (roads, etc.), unless those sheriffs agree to uphold state law.
In fairness to Danby, that’s a good idea. Maybe it’s time to put an initiative on the ballot to overturn this law.
If you do that, go for a state constitutional amendment.
Still, either way, the proggs will find a sympathetic judge and overturn it.
Good luck though.
overturn
I wonder how snipery they think a 6.5mm Mannlicher-Carcano is.
I agree with Lee that it was an invasion of East Coasters rather than Californians who began the decline of Colorado. I mean, c’mon. The US Air Force Academy is in Colorado Springs and there are a load of DoD types who either work at different facilities or are retired from same. They didn’t move there for the great skiing or because they love thin air.
Man up? Really?
I’ve already spoken to my mayor and got him to state explicitly where he stands on gun control laws. We succeeded in getting our county commission to back the Sheriffs, who themselves noted they would not enforce these bills. I’ve been pounding at this day after day. I’m a member of every gun owner’s group there is.
The other night I drove an hour to Greeley to listen to John Lott and speak to my rep, Lori Saine.
I’ve placed live feeds to these local proceedings here so I can keep tabs on who votes for what; and I’m part of an organization that targets for defeat any legislator who votes for this.
Initiatives are populist in nature. What we’re dealing with here is a basic right. It’s not open for vote.
I’m consistently taken aback by people who suggest that someone who works every day for the protection of liberty needs to “man up.”
Jesus.
There is only so much one man can do and I believe you are doing all you can, Jeff.
These are trying times in which we live.
Hasn’t Danby been by before to tell you what to do? He sounds familiar.
What we’re dealing with here is a basic right. It’s not open for vote.
Bingo.
and the minute we allow Obama’s “Shouldn’t Gabby Gifford have the right to vote on this?” we are lost.
It’s the whole Leftist “We Won and have a MANDATE” schtick.
Why Is Mexico Asking the U.S. Senate for a Registry of U.S. Gun Owners?
Sorry I offended you. I didn”t mean to insult but the last several posts on the subject have been, well, whiny.
No, I haven’t been by before to tell Jeff what to do. I’ve commented I think twice before.
My point is that so long as legislators see no penalty for their actions they will do whatever they can to pander to their audience of idiot suburban housewives and even stupider college instructors. If they see the initiative already written and ready for filing on the first possible day, and a couple hundred thousand dollars rounded up before the law even passes, it makes the passage even harder.
It’s good to target them, it’s better to let them know in direct ways that they are being targeted. Sing Sing prison in NY had a problem with riots in the 1960s. That went away with the acquisition of laser sights by the guards. They made sure to tell the inmates that they had acquired them and what the little red dot on your forehead meant.
Point out the whiny parts.
Wow Danby, we have never heard such revolutionary, manly talk here before. You sir, are a towering colossus of non-whiny masculinity! And sooo smart!
Do you have a newsletter?
By the way, universal background check passed along party lines. With no mechanism for enforcement. That comes with the call for a gun registry.
You better get going on that initiative to stop the environmentalists from taking your boats away too.
Because of all the boating related gun pollution…
[…] the Illinois State Rifle Association [via Dana Loesch (warning: link is to Red State), via Darleen Click], we […]
Yep.
If you needed further evidence that Colorado’s Democrats are crazy as crap house rats, while pushing their feel-good anti-gun agenda they’re also proposing to reduce the minimum mandatory sentences for crimes committed with guns and have no intention of strengthening the penalties for convicted felons caught illegally possessing firearms. But the shit-eaters will be quick to tell you that public safety is their first priority.
I’m guessing it’s something in the water….
Only queers drink Coors.
True that, Lee.
” Only queers drink Coors.”
Yes. It’s true. A real man would make a lovely shave ice with it.

Vail area is too small to make a difference. It is definitely the inner cities in and around Denver and the Boulder, with money coming in from the rich Libs/Celebutards from Aspen and Telluride.
Danby sez: “Man up ya softy! Stiffen up that dong and screw the sky with it man! Mhaaaaaawwwww! “
Danby sez: ” Ya think the ol’ grim reaper’s gonna tickle you with a feather when he comes? Hell no! Have them bury you with a shovel so when you finally man up you can dig yourself out of the grave! Ahoooooooooah! Two shakes ya bounder!
That’s supposed to be a half assed Teddy Roosevelt sort of thing in case anyone was wondering.
Danby made Chuck Norris cry, right after he juggled asteroids and drank a fifth of molten plutonium. I’d think twice about scoffing at his advice.
There are more conservatives in California than in Colorado. Or Wyoming.
Unfortunately, there are even *more* leftists.
We haven’t seen nearly enough posturing around here since Warren Bonesteel decided not to lecture us anymore.
“Shouldn’t Gabby Gifford have the right to vote on this?”
Being a victim of an atrocity does not give one the moral clout to wish injustice upon others. So no, she doesn’t get a vote.
