The White House, by way of Jay Carney, wants all of you gun nuts — with your “concerns” over something so antiquated and stupid as the 2nd Amendment, and the perfectly reasonable attempts by a caring government to prevent wee school children from dying in a hail of gunfire — to know that for Piers Morgan, the 1st Amendment is absolute.
If you feel something burning, that’s the irony.
And by contrast, for Citizens United, something altogether other than absolute. So much other, in fact, that the members of the Supreme Court deserved a stern rebuke, as though from a despotic father to his unruly children.
May thr ghost of Learned Hand wallop them.
From Carney’s blather:
And the way to do that is to further abrogate the Second Amendment rights of the law abiding many by keeping them from manufacturing, buying, selling, or transfering not a weapon of war (which have already been severely restricted–purely out of concern for an irresponsible, law-breaking few, understand), but an ordinary firearm that just happens to look like a weapon of war.

The First Amendment has nothing to do with deporting a foreigner’s subversive ass. Sure, he can’t be prosecuted, but he can let the door hit him in the ass. ‘Course, that might be unmanageable with his dick in Carney’s mouth. Jay’s hands would obviously be in the way.
Yeah, we could enforce existing laws. But where’s the transformational, God-like power in that?

Yeah. Who did those fucking Sumerians and Egyptians and Babylonians and Hittites think they were with their writing and their pyramids and ziggurauts and bronze tools when the white man was still carving sticks and knapping arrowheads, when he wasn’t raising stone circles to the sun and the moon?
It’s a good thing they’re all dead, or we’d have to kick there asses!
Fuckers.

“If you feel something burning, that’s the irony.”
And here I thought it was my unlubed fundament.
“perfectly reasonable attempts by a caring government to prevent wee school children from dying in a hail of gunfire ”
Chicago questions the perfection of such reasoning behind the attempts and those questions sadly often take the form of an ever growing pool of spilled blood which Rahm “The Ultra-Mayor of Tomorrow” Emanuel deals with by trying to shame urban gang bangers into not hurting the children. Because smart. Because touched by the one. Because ‘Chicago Way’…oh wait.

They’re coming pretty close to what they need in that response. Help is on the way though soon. Then they can bring their response to gun owners to the pitch of perfection last seen with the immortal, “Can I get me a hunting license here?”
– Apparently the “narrative” lacks a certain, shall we say. “firmament” among the natives. WH straw polls show that the electorate is running 9 to 1 against the “capitulation campaign”. Maybe Carney could try Letterman or something.
– That is a far bridge to navigate, even for the endlessly duplicitous Left.
“Weapons of war, jackass”? Tell it to these former free speech advocates.
In 1929 the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911 Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total
of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Might Snopes that sucker, bro. And if it comes up wanting, have someone march over there and do a little refomin’.
See, you freaks of nature insist that American neoutopian statism shall produce its Utopia via the same utopian statism that killed dozens and dozens and dozens of millions. Likewise, you expect us to swallow the deadly myth that peace comes through disarmament. While you construct your obvious police State.
Maybe if ruling sociopaths chose another path you’d get your cooperation. We all did nearly a quarter millennia ago and we’re alive to exercise free speech.
Like this.
But see this is me debating you with reason and fact. Rather, go fuck yourself.
Not so incidentally, I don’t intend to debate gun control much beyond that. Gun control didn’t come up in the prior Administration and so little Marxist collectivist man was reelected by being deemed safe enough for rights.
Yet it didn’t even make inauguration for gun control to come screaming around the pike and right through our front doors. And the right contends itself with making nice, polite, rational arguments as if this is some kind of constitutional congress and the Second doesn’t much exist instead of making flatly threatening arguments like the Second (and Heller and McDonald) all do damn well exist and don’t tread on me, you government tool so deeply and eternally hostile to my best interest under the law.
And probably my property and my life. Rather, go fuck yourself.
Somebody tell me what’s wrong with this tactic. Somebody tell me why we’re not prosecuting every official in support of gun control for violating his oath.
“If you can feel that staying human is worth while, even when it can’t have any practical result whatsoever, you’ve beaten them.”

“Rather, go fuck yourself.” Leigh says it’s off-putting, so you got THAT going for you.
“If you feel something burning, that’s the irony.” Thank God, I thought it was something else. My stomach can’t handle any more penicillin right now.
“weapon of war.” My Dad used to say, “The most danegerous weapon a man posesses is the muscle between his ears.” It’s what we are. It’s what we do.
This is my favorite gun control story. Not that we’re comparing the US to the USSR under Stalin (yet), but that the whole claim that reducing gun ownership inevitably will reduce deaths due to firearms is resoundingly refuted by it.
“Mr. Carney, this administration is responsible for giving weapons of war to Mexican head choppers, and yet…………”
To dream.
This petition needs more signatures. If you haven’t signed already…
“Fuck you Jay, this administration is responsible for giving weapons of war to Mexican head choppers, and yet……….”
Better
I have an issue with the “reducing firearms deaths” trope. Pol Pot, for instance, wasn’t big on wasting ammo on killing a million of his people. He killed them nonetheless.
“He killed them nonetheless.”
As did Stalin.
““Rather, go fuck yourself.” Leigh says it’s off-putting, so you got THAT going for you.”
Hold on, pardner. What did I do?
Not offered as critisism, just an observation.
Humor, Sense of. Look into one.
Gulermo, it seems as if you’re drifting into a trollish attitude.
McGhee:
Dismissing, or minimizing someone elses opinion is her stock in trade, then rationalizing said behavior after the fact, ( I am referring to the pooh-poohing Di made mention of yesterday . I do find her behavior amusing and often enlightening. Then she will say something to someone out of the blue and I have to ask; What’s the point? Friendly fire and all that rubbish.
If you think me a troll, you might want to look into a sense of humor as well.
The “off-putting” is something Leigh and Paleomarus were saying regarding Beck yesterday.
Did you know they say honey is better at attracting flies than, say, vinegar.
Dicentra is just as opinionated as I am as are you, as is everyone else on this board, for that matter.
If Jeff has instituted a code of conduct and I missed the memo, he can email it to me.
I signed that petition, McGehee.
Now I’m a known rabble-rouser.
Liegh:
Sorry about the delay in answering.
Of course.
Do you see any irony to be had in complaining about someone else complaining about someone else complaining then justifying the complaining by rationalizing the complaining with another complaint? Not one ounce of humor to be found?
You don’t answer to me. Not necessary and I am not asking you to. Not my place to do so.
Not my place to tell you you have a bug up your butt either, but that won’t change that I recognise when you do.
If you want my opinion, ask. I am not shy.
“Did you know they say honey is better at attracting flies than, say, vinegar.”
I’m not a fan of flies myself. I’m not agin’ ’em but I ain’t fer ’em neither. And I was joking about my two hour-ish internet outage being a result of Di’s psychic anger. I thought it would be obvious. I’m pretty sure it’s my cable modem or Time Warner.
Not my place to tell you you have a bug up your butt either, but that won’t change that I recognise when you do.
How ironic. I have often thought that about you, as well.
Be that as it may, I have no desire to spare with you.
I guess Gulermo has a wee little axe to grind for people who are gauche enough to only only 50-60% on Glenn Beck’s jock and willing to say so. Well, he can grind his wee little axe until it’s a pile of filings if he so desires. I’m sure that will impress someone, like for instance, the self appointed auditor of the ‘sense of humor’ department.
“to only only 50-60%” -> to only be
I don’t know Beck or his views. He is not on the tv or radio here. I don’t know much about him at all.
To me, it sometimes seems like you, (in the rehetorical sense), are argueing about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, all the while, the house is burning down.
The only news I get here is what I can glean from the internet, consequently, I don’t really know what the general attitude of the public is towards what I read is going on there. The interaction between you, (rehetorical), gives me some insight into what Conservatives are thinking. At least the ones that post here.
I have a few questions. Why do you think the Republicans lost the election? How did they get to where they are now? Where, exactly do they stand? Does shooting the messenger really help? Who does it help? Am I helping or hindering?
The only good thing about being at the bottom is that, once there, there is only one direction to go.
Is Beck someone I should read?
He has written a great many books. I’ve not read any of them so can’t give an opinion either way.
“To me, it sometimes seems like you, (in the rehetorical sense), are argueing about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, all the while, the house is burning down.”
Why should I give a fuck how anything seems to you or worry about it?
The network I am on won’t let me access his online radio content.
I will check youtube later.
“Why should I give a fuck how anything seems to you or worry about it?” You shouldn’t . You seem to have it all under control.
Whatever minor disputes or misunderstandings you may be involved in Gulermo, let me convey that I for one value your comments here in part for the simple reciprocal of the reason you expressed above concerning your desire for news and opinion in the States: likewise, I’m glad to hear you tell of Costa Rica and its neighbors, life, and opinion in those environs (that latter only to the lesser extent you occasionally do), and to hear what I can’t otherwise hear from those parts. So more of that is good, as is more of you in comments on that, when the time avails you.
“You shouldn’t . You seem to have it all under control.”
Glad that’s settled.
That depends on what you’re looking for. His catalog is all over the place. If it’s a political treatise you’re looking for, I can recommend Broke.

That’s an interesting construction to refer to one who has an appreciation for another’s work. Does it apply to Jeff’s work, er jock?
Gulermo has been an asset here for ages. Y’all play nice.

“and opinion in those environs (that latter only to the lesser extent you occasionally do),”
” your desire for news and opinion in the States” I am not complaining, but it is difficult to keep up with what is going on there. Kind of listening to your brothers fighting through a wall. You know they are fighting just no real clear distinct noise. The news here is limited usually to whatever will affect U.S./ Costa Rican relations and I refuse to watch CNN as it is not even the CNN for U.S. consupmtion, (CNN latin America).
Anytime I can be of service feel free to write. I am sure you know where I am, but if you are unsure, ask our host for directions.

It isn’t so much, for my part anyhow, Gulermo, that I’m curious to hear the ‘news’ from down there as such — in the current, it’s happening now sense — but just to hear more generally, of life (the life of plain ol’ people living), of doings in Costa Rica on political or international relations where they happen to come up (but on these, only as they arise from your interest), and by ‘that latter’ intended what you have to say of neighboring nations or otherwise, again as your own interests carry you along. But suffice it to say, yours is a valued voice.
“That’s an interesting construction to refer to one who has an appreciation for another’s work. Does it apply to Jeff’s work, er jock?”
Why not.
Hmmm…if you can stream audio, you can also catch Beck on The Blaze radio. The radio and TV shows play there and I believe they rebroadcast when there’s no live programming.
Indeed they do. His radio show is playing now.
sdferr:
People here are much more reserved. How one speaks to another is indicative of education and cultural backround; the accent of your Spanish is also judged. Cursing publically, (not that it isn’t done frequently), is a strict no no and reflects on the individual cursing without regard to provocation.
Depending in which part of the country you reside, will also determine the amount of politics that will be openly discussed. Especially in the campo, counrtyside. As in the U.S. the pace of life is different, slower, richer. Costa Rica is a small place, roughly the size of West virginia and has a total population of less than five million people
People I know are more right of what you would call center in the U.S. politcally speaking, but they overwhelming accept gov/corpopate politcal structures and programs. The government petroleum consortium is one example.
There is a English newpaper here the Tico Times, but they are rabid leftists, as are many of the ex-pats that live here.
