“Gun Microstamping: Democrat Ignorance Threatens Manufacturing Jobs”

It’s not so much that they don’t recognize the law of unintended consequences; it’s that the consequences are in fact intended.

With progressives, never write off to ignorance or stupidity what can better be ascribed to malice and an attempt to weaken individual autonomy and a Constitution they see as a barrier to the coming social Utopia.  Which they get to run.

This seems like a half-measure as per crime-fighting goes. No debate about the purposefulness of this move.

Any criminal worth his salt is going to sand those tiny numbers right off of there. Pawn shops sell lots of old guns without microstamping. That and criminals generally could give a damn if their weapons are legal.

  2. Pablo says:

I wonder how many unsolved crimes have been committed by the lawful purchaser of the weapon used. I’m guessing it’s not that many which further negates any predictable benefit from this foolishness.

    Why do you hate fairness?

“It’s unfair of them to resist sensible regulation to save lives. It does not impact lawful gun ownership at all.”

Whatever will NY do when there are only the planners and the hungry mouths left to regulate?

  3. beemoe says:

No Pablo. All murders are committed by people in a rage who go out and buy a brand new gun just to shoot somebody.

That is why background checks and waiting periods have worked so well, with this legislation murder will probably be almost eliminated.

    Probably.

  4. Pablo says:

That’s the thing, though. When people kill in rage, we usually know who did it pretty quickly without much in the way of sleuthing.

You know what they should do? Make it illegal to shoot people. That would work.

  5. beemoe says:

You would just create a black market for murders. Never work.

  6. JHoward says:

Proggs are such masters of cause and effect, beemoe.

Typically involving trace gasses, conception, or what you’re thinking.

    Like a boss they are.

  7. @PurpAv says:

There’s a number of my local anti-gun media who are in fact gun owners/shooters (rules are for the little people). Perhaps it would be a useful object lesson to find out where they shoot and collect some of their brass and scatter it around crack town in Riviera Beach where all the drug murders happen?

  8. Swen says:

Yeah, this will work well. It takes maybe 30 seconds to swap firing pins in a 1911 and spares are cheap. Revolvers, double-barreled shotguns, bolt-action rifles and such don’t automatically eject their empties when fired. As leigh notes criminal’s will file the numbers off — or more likely use stolen guns that can’t be traced to them anyway. There are a whole slew of reasons why this won’t much inconvenience the mother stabbers and father rapers.

But make it a requirement that all currently owned guns be retro-fitted and voila! you’ve got de facto gun registration. Own an old gun for which microstamped firing pins aren’t available? Too bad, they’ll just have to impound it, can’t legally possess unmarked guns! Choose not to turn in your unmarkable guns? Congratulations, you’re a felon.

And they wonder why so many gun owners think the anti-gun laws are less about fighting crime than they are about fucking with lawful gun owners.

Back in the 70s I loaned my pump shotgun to a co-worker so he could go deer hunting. When he returned it I put it away and discovered months later that the firing pin had broken.

Not being the internet-overnight shipping age and needing it asap I spent an hour or so with a drill held in my bench vise, a piece of steel rod, and some files and soon had a firing pin which worked fine till the new one ordered arrived. I still have it around as a spare.

There’s likely a Schmuckie Chuckie helping this along somewhere in the background. It has his trademarked stupidity all over it.

The real wonder is that there are any gun owners who think anti-gun laws are less about fucking with lawful gun owners than about fighting crime.

Good point! We should legalize murder and then tax it. For the REVENUE and thus, for the Common Good!

Proceeds benefit senior citizens, at least the ones that haven’t been shot yet.

  12. leigh says:

I thought buying lottery tickets benefited seniors? At least that was the big lie in Pennsylvania.

  13. John Bradley says:

State-run lotteries benefit senior citizens in the sense that “this’ll do for now… be thankful we haven’t legalized and taxed murder yet, y’old bastards.”

  14. geoffb says:

Union threats. “No Police, No Peace“.

  15. LBascom says:

Detroit needs to adopt Florida’s stand your ground law tout suite…

  16. @PurpAv says:

Executions cut way down on the recidivism rate of the perps they’re applied to too.

  17. jcw46 says:

I think that anyone who fires a gun should be required to report themselves immediately to the nearest police officer.

By passing a law of this sort, those who illegally fire guns can immediately be taken off the streets and punishment meted out. Tout suite.

    See? Problem solved.

    /idiot liberal brain off

  18. Ernst Schreiber says:

“No Police No Peace?” Would anyone really notice the difference?

  19. geoffb says:

    Nope, it’s Detroit.

  20. Neo says:

I can see a real opportunity making money by selling replacement firing pins micro-etched with … “Barack Obama, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, DC”
