Ah! The old creative Prine. You know, before he quit drinking and lost the muse.

Saw him once in concert when he was so drunk he could barely stand. His handlers didn’t want to let him go on but he grabbed his guitar and stormed on stage with them trying to drag him back and then trying to hold him up until they could get him perched on a stool, where he sat kinda swaying and hiccuping and staring blearily at the cheering crowd. Then he started to sing and play and it was perfect.

  3. leigh says:

I never cared for him much.

  4. Jeff G. says:

    Who, Prine?

Then there’s something very very wrong with you.

    One of my faves:

Resignation calls fly at Justice Dept. spokeswoman over Media Matters collaboration

Several targets of a collaborative relationship between Justice Department Office of Public Affairs director Tracy Schmaler and the liberal message group Media Matters for America told The Daily Caller that Schmaler’s conduct is grounds for her resignation, or for the termination of her employment.

And members of Congress have told TheDC that Media Matters’ enviable tax-exempt status may be in jeopardy as a result of that collusion.

Emails TheDC obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request show Schmaler — Attorney General Eric Holder’s top press defender — and Media Matters staffers working together to attack reporters covering DOJ scandals and other administration critics. hs song, “Illegal Smile”, caused me to cancel my job interviews with life insurance companies when I was graduating from college.

“Spanish Pipedream” caused me to blow up my TV (figuratively).

I also really liked “Sabu visits the twin cities alone”.

    Nice post.

I first remember John Prine from about 20 yrs earlier than this song – around 1971 or 1972.

Yeah, I’m an old fart that graduated high school in 1973.

But we sure listened to some good music back in those days.

anyone seen that news story about the Pakistani protester who died from inhaling the fumes from burning our flag? That was my Darwin LOL for the morning.

In Spite of Ourselves is, listened to with the right state of mind, actually a beautiful and funny love song. It’s like the beginning “interviews” from When Harry Met Sally put to music.

I knew. Like you know a good melon.

    “Paradise”

    It’s the perfect song.

BTW: met him once, in the airport with his wife.

Wasn’t sure it was him, so I waited for him to go do something (bathroom, maybe) and asked the lady “Is that John Prine?”

She says “Yep, that’s Johnny.” Introduced me when he came back.

    A very nice man.
