Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo enjoys stumping for same-sex marriage. Emmett C. Burns, Jr. is a Maryland Democrat legislator who decided to write the Ravens owner to try and get Ayanbadejo to Shut up*
*Side note, CNN plays “name that party” with Burns. Heh.
Burns was wrong. If Burns wants to publicly respond to Ayanbadejo in a speech or in a column to debate the particulars of same-sex marriage, that’s perfectly in line with the First Amendment. Going to Ayanbadejo’s boss and trying to apply pressure, especially from the position of a government official, is wrong.
Granted, Ayanbadejo’s arguments for same-sex marriage are what is to be expected from someone who gets his head pounded for a living, but even the brain damaged are entitled to their Constitutional rights.
Has Batman comics’ arch-villain Babs Mikulski, aka The Waddler, piped up contra Burns in Ayanbadejo’s defense? Markakis’ thumb? God’s vengeance on a one-party state, the sort in which Constitutions are mere adornments, stood up to view for the easily fooled.
Burn’s objections seem a bit too ummm….strident. Maybe he should just come out of the closet. We’re not Iran, we don’t execute gays.
