This is more JeffG’s bailiwick than mine, but even I understand this attempt at “gotcha” is full of crap
Mitt Romney Speech Line Contradicts 2009 Claim He Wanted ‘Liberal Policies’, Obama ‘To Fail’
Despite saying he wishes “President Obama had succeeded, because I want America to succeed” in his GOP convention speech, Mitt Romney hasn’t always felt that way.
Just after Obama was inaugurated, Romney explicitly said he wanted the president to fail:
I want liberal policies to fail. I want him to fail in trying to put in place a health care plan that takes away the private sector from health care. I want him to fail in this cap and trade program as long as China and Brazil and Indonesia are not going to play in it. But I want him to succeed as a president, meaning, I want him to succeed in strengthening our economy, keeping us free, bringing our troops home in success from Iraq and Afghanistan. But I don’t want his liberal policies to succeed.
Did the scribbler of this piece, Paige Lavender, not even read the quote she lists?
The mind, it boggles.
Probably not, or she would have ommitted the last two sentences.
We’ll ignore the oxymoronic asininity of wanting a liberal president to succeed “as president” while hoping his liberal policies failed.
Ernst
It’s more tilting at windmills than being oxymoronic.
If Obama had actually governed as the “moderate” even “conservative” Dem that he portrayed himself to be during the election … say government more like Clinton than Carter, his Presidential success would have been welcome because we wouldn’t be here drowning in this economy.
I have no problem with people who have a Road to Damascus moment and change their policies to match.
I am still enjoying the left freaking out over Eastwood. Hope and Change!
Paige Lavender? That can’t be real.
Respectfully Darleen, I don’t agree. It’s oxymoronic because you have to pretend to believe that Obama was a moderate or was willing to govern that way out of pragmatism.
Just as you have to pretend to believe that a President’s liberal policies can fail while the country succeeds, when history tells you differenly.
But hey, what right thinking pragmatic Republican wants to get the full Limbaugh?
The difficulty with “if Obama” is the actuality of Obama.
That is, any of us who looked closely at Obama before Obama became President and began to govern — despite that we could not claim to know the future — nevertheless understood from Obama, his life, his choices, his manner, his dissimulation, that there was no possibility Obama would behave as a so-called centrist Democrat. Which in turn indicts either Romney’s faulty judgement (bad enough), or Romney’s own propensity to dissimulate (even worse).
Rule 1 for New Parents: do not give your daughter a porn name.
Be empowering: Let her pick her own when she turns 18. Sure, she might choose poorly (e.g. “Propecia Flonase”), but ultimately the learning experience will be worth it.

I work with and have many Dem acquaintances and friends. Heck, my MIL was quite the O! supporter in 08.
I could talk ’til I was blue in the face with them that there was no way, based on the woefully incomplete vetting of sycophant MSM, that His Oneness was going to go Clinton. They were giddy to take O! at his word.
At that point, my only hope was if a couple of his liberal policies failed, he might learn something.
so fancy pants Romney is happy to sign america up to a cap n trade boondoggle as long as India is afflicted with it too?
He’s really kind of a statist piece of shit whore, this one, isn’t he?
At that point, my only hope was if a couple of his liberal policies failed, he might learn something.
– He did. Like all Marxixts before him he doubled down, and then doubled down again, because when you don’t gove a fuck about anything but the raw poert you’re not incumbered by silly shit like ethics and laws. Statists are always more than willing to take down the country they’re trying to enslave rather than admit failure, and they won’t stop til the wall falls and the country collapses.
– The Democratic party has become a cult of personality, and a subversive communistic anti-American organ.
Obama’s incapable of learning because he’s committed to a worldview. Well meaning Dems of your acqaintance are incapable of learning because too few people in a position of publican prominence are willing to say that liberal progressive policies don’t work becaues they don’t accurately reflect the world as it really is.
Thus we’re left with good men who fail despite their best intentions, or “bad luck,” as Heinlein called it.
And that’s the best case scenario. Because liberal progressive policies work quite well if what you really want to do is impoverish people morally, intellectually and materially, and enslave them in dependecy upon you and people like you.
I understand what you’re saying about friends family and co-workers. But I really wish more people on our side were less invested in comity and or polite disagreement (the whole we all want whats best, it’s just that we disagree on how to go about getting it crap) and start making the case for our vision. If you guys care so much, how come none of your programs ever work? If our programs work, how can it be said that we don’t care?)
Or something like that, since I’m starting to ramble.
Is India on the Road to Damascus, ‘feets? ‘splain your reference?
Romney was mainstreaming when he said he hoped Obama’s liberal policies fail. But I do get the Huff’n’blow by Paige Hornswaggle, given that LeftLibProgg’s entire cult of personality personifies liberal policies as flowing out upon us from ObamaDeity.
Uggh. Refresh earlier! Cult of Personality fits it well, bbh!
Which you knew before you started saying it was him or Obama back during the primaries. After which you decided maybe that was a problem after all and it didn’t matter which one of them won, before deciding that, yeah maybe the Romney cock up the ass of failshit america wouldn’t hurt quite as much as Obama’s much bigger hard-on for statist ass-rapery.
So who gives a damn what you think?
I’m still for Romney I just can’t believe how much of a Meghan’s coward daddy retread he is
but I have no doubt this whorish cowardly failshit loser-ass little country will get the leadership it deserves irrespective of who wins
“But I really wish more people on our side were less invested in comity and or polite disagreement (the whole we all want whats best, it’s just that we disagree on how to go about getting it crap) and start making the case for our vision. Ernst, you’re on to something, I think, though I don’t think I can articulate it any better. But to simply throw some bits together which tend in the direction I’m vaguely seeing through the fog: there’s Jeff, doing what he does, which I believe would be well received in wider circulation; there’s the way Eastwood’s unscripted remarks have been received; there’s this letter William Jacobson got from a reader; there’s that conversation I attempted to start about the audience at the convention, together with Jeff’s piece today (and Levin’s remarks yesterday) about the shrinking viewing audience; and there’s Aristophanes (or Shakespeare for that matter) and his audience, whom he could insult to their faces with the truth about them, yet receive applause in reward.
It’s disjointed, I grant, but I believe there is a market for the truth –awaiting its market-maker — out there in our world today. And potentially great success to be had, should it be gathered.
‘feets, I don’t think you’d be happy if you won.
How’s about a nice bowl of turtle soup?
Not so much for Romney or seeing the whorish cowardly failshit loser-ass little country get what it deserves good and hard as for grieferish attention-whoring, I dare say.
Mr. serr8d the remarks in question were in 2009, when the jobless US economy was already deep deep in the shitter
and yet
Mitt was still on board with cap n trade while so many of his fellow Americans were losing hope and sliding into glorious food stamp dependency
turtle soup indeed
Ernst if you were here you could come to brunch with us there will be sammins involved
Centrist Democrats are the skin suits that the Buffalo Bills of the radical progressive left wear in public. They were flayed long ago in the backrooms of the DNC, tanned and preserved “In Emergency Break Glass” style for use when needed to fool the centrist democrat voters that Bernie is still alive.
After he was elected Obama decided that they were no longer of any use. He buried Bernie but now may wish to dig him up for display for a couple of months of the campaign.
A very small audience indeed, sdferr, for the caliber of thought you’ve mentioned.
Recall the Bell Curve, and where the majority of people fit in’t.
If you’re for Romney, BE for Romney. If you’re resigned to Romney BE resigned.
If you think your better than the rest of the whores and cowards and failshit loser-ass what make up this little country of ours, vote Hope and Change FORWARD
like all the other supercilious would-be elitists who think hanging around the periphery of pop-culture driven political opinion a status marker.
I don’t think it’s all that small in absolute terms serr8d, though it may be small in some relative measures. On the upside, I think the demand is growing, and will continue to grow quickly, the longer the general absence of trustworthy sources remains the case.
I don’t get to vote this time Mr. Ernst but I hope this Romney wins
on the one hand he seems pliable huh
– You don’t get to vote feets? Why did you leave your photo ID in the apartment in Moscow?
– One thing you have to admit about the GOP establishment. Once they step in the political poop they make sure they track it all over the living room rug.
Ah, found it. Video of the “unveiling” of the DNC’s new podium … listen to the chants in the first few seconds:
– Yeh sure, it will be the most open convention EVAH!.
– Wait until the #OWies and walking vagiba’s and anti-war crowd try to demonstrate if they can even get in.
– The Dems do the same shit every time, pander every other week of the year, and kick most of their rabid nut jobs to the curb when its anything meaningful.
BBH
I’m not sure who said it first, but to counter the CodePinkVulvas, TEA Party women should show up at the Dem Convention wearing brain costumes.
Sorta OT but, why do these wimmin refer to those costumes as vaginas? The vagina is an internal structure. Darleen is right about them being vulvas.
And vulgar as hell, too.
As per the convention, someone should lock all the doors and turn up the heat. It could be like the movie “Carrie” before she started in killing everyone.
“Hey Mabel…..’comeer for a second…..Those crazy coomienists are parading down the street again…..you gotta see this….They’re all wearing costumes that look like assholes.”
Heh. That’s what my husband said, too BBH.
– Two office workers watching out the window looking down on the march of the lunitics….
1st worker: “…..Soooo….whad’yah think of those costimes?
2nd worker: “They kind of look like assholes to me.”
1st worker: “Yeh, I know, but what about the costunes?”
*RIM shot*
(see what I did there)
Absolutely huge audience, I can see why they needed someone doing sign language for them, though the camera didn’t stay on the translation long enough so the TV audience, huge too?, was out of luck.
– For DNC in the street coverage here is a Charlotte Fox news outlet affiliate.
