Twitter conservatives race to defend him from an OUTRAGED press corp, noting that Romney’s offense is not that he made the joke, just that the joke itself wasn’t funny — and concluding that Mitt really should stick to the economy and various invocations of the word “delightful” and leave the comedy to those who don’t typically wear spiritual undergarments.
So he got off easy, did Mitt. This time. Meaning, I don’t think we’ll hear any very public, principled calls for him to step down just yet. Although it should be noted that Twitter conservatives reserve the right to lick a finger and keep it in the air just in case there’s some shift in the political winds they feel the need to get out ahead of. For freedom.

update: Oh. Akin held a press conference. He’s staying in. And is attacking McCaskill.
Of course, he’s unelectable now — because he made a dubious medical claim in an inelegant way and most certainly not because an entire conga line of Republicans, led by the rightside Twitterverse and the Rove cabal that doesn’t even exist, signed their names to shit saying the moronic extremist woman hater rape apologist and his outlandish belief in the magic cooter has to get out of the race, then spent the next few days trying to get the selfish selfish man (who is only worried about his own career and reputation, not the future of the country, like those more polished and perfect patriots who insist he do as they say) to bend to their wills instead of covering for him while going after tax cheat ObamaCare strumpet McCaskill.
Just so we’re clear.
The Left and Right are apparently so breathless from poorly thought out opinions and jokes that I expect my next “America da Best!” political flyer to include an asthma inhaler.
Romney’s troubling racist joke comes just in time to completely rearrange (for the third time!) the order and topics of speechifying at the Republican Convention next week. Quick! Someone get Artur Davis and Alan West on the line and tell them they’re being moved to high-voltageTVnight!
Hearken to the Obamamites, O ye frail gops. Do their bidding for your own good.
Obama, he’s just so special, bless his heart.
The hurricane will control the convention.
Obama has called out to the earth he has healed to create havoc for the evil soil rapists. And the oceans and the clouds have answered.
I hope Romney keeps poking the Wonce with a pointy stick. His thin skin will pop like a helium balloon.
Meh. Obama set the rules.
Is there a link somewhere that I am missing? What did Romney say?
He mentioned that no one has asked him for his birth certificate.
I thought it was a good quip, since they’ve been hounding him for more tax returns…
Never mind. Just found it.
They really are losing their fucking minds, huh?
Which one did you catch B Moe? This one, maybe? heh
the moronic extremist woman hater rape apologist and his outlandish belief in the magic cooter has to get out of the race
Yes. This.
And you know if you think about it it’s not a lot different than how Team R once upon a time had to make it clear that David Duke didn’t really represent the team.
it’s nothing personal it’s just what happens when people with radically different agendas than you have try to hop on your train.
Nothing for it but to push them off the train, really. At least rapey was given a chance to jump on his own terms to where he’d have a better chance of not slamming into a culvert of fail or something.
Charles Lane (Moron- WaPo) claims Romney’s joke was yet another gaffe.
Krauthammer calls him a pussy and tells him to go call JD and ask what to do with this swordfish.
o’donnell, angle, akin i’m sensing a trend by the gop establishment
It could be said that the convention road the Dems are going down is because of what the establishment Rs did to Akin. He will have given us a multi-day prime time Wellstone memorial to use.
nah the dems were looking for a hook on their “war on women” scam
i’m still trying to understand team r’s collective hysteria about akin
I think that’s maybe true Mr. geoff especially in the sense that the imperativeness of the jobs and economy agenda resides much more in the hearts and minds of our obama-raped countrymen and countrywomens than it does in the Team R platform or convention machinations.
And to the extent that anyone of an independent bent is tuning in to these convention things at all it’ll be to hear what Team R proposes to do to make things better for so people don’t have to be scared and worried and frugal all the time.
i’m still trying to understand team r’s collective hysteria about akin
people were genuinely appalled in a gimme-a-sec-to-get-my-head-around-what-this-guy-is-saying way
then upon reflection they realized he was a kook what couldn’t just be swept under some rug
then upon reflection they realized he was a kook
he said something anti pc that doesn’t make him a kook outside of the ussr
Republicans in Missouri might be appalled by things like designer cupcakes and choosing your dinner based on how Other it is. So there’s that, too.
Mr. newrouter what happened was that his remarks went viral, and the reason they went viral was cause what he was saying wasn’t just “anti pc” – it was cause what he was saying had genuine unfeigned for reals actual shock value
that’s very rare in our politics here
I’m a go see me some Missouri and find out Mr. Jeff
Griefer just equated being against what one truly believes is the murder of unborn children with being a notorious member of the KKK.
But remember: staunch.
ok bye I have to go home now and do laundries
I didn’t get to take my driving test today cause of I accidentally left my papers at home and didn’t have time to go fetch them cause me and NG went to lunch at our favorite new place (which we noticed the other day kinda oddly has all its locations in Cali except for three in… Missouri) so now it’ll be on Monday
but I’ll check in later maybe after I get the laundry going and pick up my place a little ok bye
it was cause what he was saying had genuine unfeigned for reals actual shock value
yea baracky being in favor of aborting babies after they survive an abortion is nothing
That’s civilized, nr. Because of the freedom it gives women not to be punished with one of the whaddyacalls that sometimes happens when the asshole from the bar doesn’t pull out like he says he’s going to.
I was a bit shocked and appalled that the head of the Democrat Party admitted that the truth didn’t matter right out loud and on TV.
Unfortunately it didn’t seem to come as a surprise to any of her subjects.
“the establishment Rs did to Akin. He will have given us a multi-day prime time Wellstone memorial to use.”
data point
Between August 15-19 of this year, American Life League commissioned a nationwide telephone survey of 900 self-identified Catholic registered voters. The focus of the survey was Catholic perspectives on the Church and nation. Below are some of the results of the survey.
Only 27 percent of the Catholics surveyed support President Obama. Of those surveyed, 74 percent of Catholic men over the age of 50 do not support Obama, while Obama support among Catholic men under 50 years is only 25 percent. With Catholic women over the age of 50, the president’s support is only 23 percent, with just 31 percent among Catholic women under 50 years.
American Life League speculates that such a dramatic shift may be caused by Obama’s HHS mandates and ensuing legal battle over religious freedom, as 73 percent of Catholics polled believe that the mandates violate their religious freedom.

I don’t care. I don’t listen to him anyway. Not since he whined about the medical costs of allowing stupid old women spewing defective Xrister babies. I’d rather have an Akin in the republican part than a Happy feet.
“I was a bit shocked and appalled that the head of the Democrat Party admitted that the truth didn’t matter right out loud and on TV.”
Yeah I know! I always thought it would be Alan Grayson who let that cat out of the bag while Harry Reid and Howard Dean peaked out from behind a plexiglass blast shield to see if he survived the admission.
But now the dial gets turned way up past crazy.
” I’d rather have an Akin in the republican part than a Happy feet.”
Then again I admittedly don’t much want ME in the Republican Party lately either. It’s become a real sewer these days. A snake pit.
Civilized.
At Romney event, two reactions to his birth certificate joke: reporters gasped–and a crowd of thousands laughed and cheered.

Akin did no one any favors except for the Democrats, but still… if this is the level of hysteria “our side” wants to indulge, the geniuses of the snarkosphere might as well admit they never really had a chance to win the Senate anyway.
http://ace.mu.nu/archives/332223.php
…Oh My Goodness: It was a 30 second press conference, in which Todd Akin shifted his campaign to talking about economics/regulation/big government.
So, it turns out he’s not going to be the guy standing on principle making his case on No-Exceptions after all.
So, after all this talk of principle, he’s now shifting gears to just try to win.

Despite The Loss of Missouri, We Could Still Draw The Inside Straight And Win the Senate
—Ace
Barely. But it’s possible.
Sheesh. Seriously? If the Clever Among Us actually thought the race for the Senate was hinging on winning every seat imaginable, then precisely who is engaging in fantasy? It ain’t the neanderthals over here. Come, let us reason together. Suppose Akin kept his trap shut about the magic hoo-hoo and the GOP won control of the Senate by nothing but the tie-breaking vote of the Vice President. Do you seriously think at least one Republican in that scenario would not be swayed to vote against a repeal of Robertscare? In this media environment? Did all the Olympia Snowes of the GOP just evaporate recently? Sweet sausage-making, unless the GOP has a majority of at least three or four there is no way they would be able to repeal that monstrosity. And has it occured to the wizards of snark that all this hand-wringing over the potential loss of the Senate will make it that much easier for these very guys now outraged about Akin to make excuses for not fighting Robertscare? “Hey, we only have one third of one fourth of one seventeenth of the parliament, or something. We blame that Akin guy. You can’t expect us to risk our political capital on frightening words like ‘repeal,’ now that we didn’t win absolutely everything.”
No, if this one seat is so crucial to everything the GOP represents, then don’t expect us to take any more talk of incremental conservative change and a gradual rollback of the State seriously. Because you mooks are howling like stuck pigs who have lost everything two months before the freaking election has even happened.
Fucking drama queens.
Today is Cal’s birthday. Chris Davis is celebrating it.
Ace has sniffed his own farts for too long. He’s a clown and a boob. He can’t see out of his own fantasyland anymore. And frankly it’s been clear since 2008 when he was mumbling about Obama being forced to rule as a centrist. He’s completely clueless. He’s dim. He’s easily distracted. He’s sastisfied with himself enough ro crow about support from Limbaugh that was not only given grudgingly and with a rebuke to the circular firing squad types, but this is the SAME Limbaugh that he was freaking about about calling him unhelpful back in the debate season and who he CF’d when Limbaugh called “my friend Flucke” a slut.
Snark is about all he can do, and sadly, it’s mostly down to empty “Burning skull/Ewok ” brand snark. He’s the timid Ace of ‘stuck on stupid’ now. P.J. O’ Rourke never stops by with kudos. Or Lileks. Hell neither does Iowahawk or even Frank J anymore. Steve Green? Nope. H.L. Menchen probably wants his quote back.
He’s sastisfied with himself enough ro crow about support from Limbaugh
rush never called for akin to step down. he thought it might be a good thing but it wasn’t his place to tell akin what to do.
Add that to the list of exhibits for the case that certain right thinking Republicans would rather lose than win with the wrong sort.
that certain right thinking Republicans would rather lose than win with the wrong sort.
odonnell, angle, akin and they be running for the senate too
A lot of people run for office and don’t have The Right Stuff. Or enough of it.
O’Donnell, Angle and Akin are not the wizards of smaht. Not even wicked smaht, in O’Donnell’s case.
Y’know who is a wizard of schmartz? Bill Clinton, that’s who. He does the NTY’s x-word in pen, and rapes women and gets away with it — NO! Better! Is regaled for it!
You know what’s smart.
Bitching for three days that Akin won’t change the subject, and when he does, bitching that he’s a hypocrite for not standing on principle.
Next time, maybe smart could skip straight o SoCons should be neither seen nor heard.
That’s like smart military blog smart!
Nah, Ernst. Socons are fine.
Akin is no Bill Clinton, and thank God for that.
Try telling that to Malor and his Paddington Bear.
Y’know who else?
Jon Corzine! He moves from managing GoldmanSachs to the NJ Senate to the Governorship of NJ to stealing vast millions of investors’ money in a brokerage he founded, billions of dollars disappearing up in smoke and how about that! He’s not prosecutable! Off like a vapor, to spend his cash, scot-free! He’ll be mumbling Bill Ayres quip the rest of his life.
All the way to pikachu?
Try telling that to Malor and his Paddington Bear.
Heh. Gabe gets testy when his feelings get hurt.
Damn. He cut her good, didn’t he? Boy’s got skillz. I mean, he hit her on 5 of the things that every other Republican in the country is hitting their Dem opponent with, and all within 16 seconds. And the messaging! “We’re going to be here.” This is a game changer.
And Mitt Romney wants to repeal Dodd-Frank and let Wall Street write their own rules and put black people in chains!
O’Donnell, Angle and Akin are not the wizards of smaht.
true but they were abused by the bloglandwizards.
And the messaging! “We’re going to be here.” This is a game changer.
do want to win this senate seat? if you do shut up and start fund raising for the guy. this ain’t effin’ hard.
Griefer just equated being against what one truly believes is the murder of unborn children with being a notorious member of the KKK
griefersaywhat? Hmmm. Well anyways the important thing is that for all his odiousness David Duke never really ended up having any impact on the fortunes of Team R apart from his own races.
And I think there’s good reason to believe this Akin person has been put on a similar island where he can talk to his soccer ball about Advanced Rape Theory forever and ever and ever and everyone will be like just ignore him he’s a kook.
[…] I’m with Jeff Goldstein on this, all the way, one hundred percent, no ‘if’s', ‘and’s’ or ‘but’s'… Twitter conservatives race to defend him from an OUTRAGED press corp, noting that Romney’s offense is not that he made the joke, just that the joke itself wasn’t funny — and concluding that Mitt really should stick to the economy and various invocations of the word “delightful” and leave the comedy to those who don’t typically wear spiritual undergarments. […]
I wish Morris Dees would get the David Duke treatment by the press. The commie putz.
Akin person has been put on a similar island where he can talk to his soccer ball about Advanced Rape Theory
he can talk to bj clinton and some of the kennedys. john edwards will do a cameo.
oh and dodd too maybe weiner
I don’t think Akin is the GOP’s problem. The GOP is. They’d still be too stupid to live and proud of it if Akin took a shuttle to Mars.
GOP priorities:
Losing the right way > winning > supporting the policy goals of your base > actually standing for anything > actually accomplishing anything.
Nr, I’ll tell you the same thing I told Norm Coleman’s peeps when they called me for dough back during the recount: Maybe Akin should run a better campaign. (Natch, substitute Coleman for Akin in my example.)
I don’t live in his fucking state and if he can’t beat McCaskill just by showing up, he’s not worth a bucket of spit.
Maybe Akin should run a better campaign.
really so at the first opportunity of a minor gaffe the full force of the gopblogtards is unleashed against akin.
you folks are stuck on stupid.
I am not part of the GOP and watch who you’re calling stupid, alright?
and watch who you’re calling stupid
here’s stupid: not wanting to defeat mccaskill by any means legally available. you clowns keep this akin bs up day after day. what a party that wants the power to change this country would do would be to go all in with akin and tell the backstabbers to stfu.
Would you say Akin raises or lowers the GOP IQ?
Wait, recently, I heard only a RINO would do that.
Well, Pablo. I guess we are both asshats. And stupid ones at that.
No, leigh. You guys are not stupid. Akin is the stupid stupidhead. Not you. You recognize his stupidity. Which makes you smart.
Is how it works.
Can we please stop with the bullshit that O’Donnell was a viable candidate for ANYTHING. She wasn’t. She isn’t. She never will be. She spoke on local radio stations about how she wasn’t “really” a witch. JFC!
Not everyone supported by the Tea Party is a good candidate.
Talking about IQs… So who are the “two or three mensa members” who can’t be named?
Would you say Akin raises or lowers the GOP IQ?
ax the guam guy or pelosi? do you want to beat mccaskill?
And yet O’Donnell beat Mike Castle. Who must have really sucked.
But at least he was viable. Because he never had to go on the radio and say he wasn’t a witch.
I never said he was stupid, Jeff.
She spoke on local radio stations about how she wasn’t “really” a witch.
yea “Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
after odonnell angle akin.you clowns are going to get baracky 2016. stupid clowns the lot of you.

Who cares?
Obama is toast. We just have to put up with him until January.
I wonder who he’ll pardon?
I just got off the phone with my low-info Godbothering, completely pro-life Evangelical zealot brother who hasn’t seen much more of the Akin thing than his original interview. Naturally, I asked him what he though about the whole thing.
“Boy, he really screwed that up, didn’t he.” is how that went. He also mentioned how the eleventy billion radio ads he’s heard from McCaskill would be great Akin ads if he’d just chopped off the intro voiceover and the “I’m Claire McCaskill and I approve this message.” parts.
Must “have” really sucked.
Neither did O’Donnell “have” to go on radio and say she wasn’t a witch. She could have spoken about her positions re anything other than spookey witchery, but she didn’t do that. When local pro-conservative, pro-rpbublican radio hosts (Dom Giordano for one) gave her the opportunity to change the narrative, she choose to proclaim she wasn’t witchie-poo 2.0.
Stop flogging that horse, She really isn’t worth it.
Jeff: Only because I think it is funny they are ones who cannot be named.
leigh: I am pretty sure Holder will be on any list. Maybe Corzine too. Jon Jon must have some good shit on the whole crew.
Stop flogging that horse, She really isn’t worth it.
yea because all of our roves were busy on fox news saying she can’t win. i tired of you stupid losers who don’t want to fight the proggtards.
drunknewroutersayswhat?
EBL, definately Holder. Blago? He might get sick of sitting in stir and decide to spill.
Pablo: I agree with you that the initial comment was objectively bad. I agree with Jeff that the mass GOP shunning and wailing did not help and probably made things worse. Arm twisting should be done in private.
My brother in KC, btw. So.
Steph, you do know that Akin wasn’t the TEA party candidate?
Also, we’re not really debating the viability of any candidate, we’re just pointing out that joining (or in the case of Akin; anticipating) the Democrat/Media uproar and helping your supposed OPPONENTS in a state you want to win.
There were better ways to handle both Akin and O’Donnell but they are/were being battered by both their opposing party and THEIR OWN PARTY.
It also seemed to me that this piling on has a hint of glee about it. (no not the tv show) Some bloggers seem delighted to be able to join the Democrats in demolishing a socon. It’s almost like they wanted a pat on the head from the “REAL” Pundits and from the Establishment for their efforts.
Otherwise why have they and did they keep up the barrage long after even the Democrats stopped?
I quit visiting a couple blogs over these actions and I may have to again as it just rubs me wrong how self important yet completely clueless they are.
So you bro is in NoMo and I live right next to SoMo and we’re both hearing the same things? Could be that there’s a trend to be spotted there.
Right. Rove made her lose by 17 points. That motherfucker is scary.
– nr – dial it back a bit. Everyone is feeling the heat from having to drag the Wussonator across the finish line and we still have 72 days to go.
– Akin’s great technicolor coat crime was he dared to actually say out loud that women sometimes lie to get what they want/need, aside from all the homespun bullshit, which is being used for cover, and not what the feminazies are totally fucked out of their minds about.
– So the GOP establikment jumps the shark over the Akins beast jumping the shark. At the end of the day nothing any of us can say will change the fact that the right can be supremely stupid at times.
– The fact is we have no choice if we want to rid ourselves of the total disaster we have now and the demonstrated stupidity of both parties is not going to get fixed by tearing into each other.
– I feel your frustration and pain friend, the same as we all feel, but the anger is misdirected, is my take on this whole fucked up election in sum.
What’s with all this radio business? TV, y’all. Wait. Oops. That’s better.
If only that were what he’d said, BBH. I’d testify. I hate me some feminazis and all manner of lying, conniving bitches.
JFC! Rove? Really? I don’t fucking care what Karl Rove has to say. I don’t really give the least fuck about Mike Castle. I don’t give the littliest lest fuck about O’Donnell. I live in Philadelphia, I fight the progtards every fucking minute of every fucking day.
Talk about the harm done to the ‘Cause’ by the actual words from the mouths ofrom the candisates rather than what the pundits have to say about the candidates.
drunknewroutersayswhat?
i say this: you idiots want to win in mo you stop the akin bs right now and do a money bomb for him. akin came out today tying claire to baracky. do you clowns want to beat these folks? stop with the bs.
“Would you say Akin raises or lowers the GOP IQ?”
Neither. I’d say the whole concept of judging IQ in such a way is dumb hyperbole.
Talk about the harm done to the ‘Cause’ by the actual words from the mouths ofrom the candisates rather than what the pundits
right, the candidate says sumthing stupid. the effin’ blogtarrd right amplifies. proggtard win no?
Yeah! 16 whole seconds of the problem with progressives! Except he didn’t mention Baracky. Or maybe I just wasn’t smart enough to catch his True Conservative signal.
So, how much have you sent him?
Nicely done, palaeo. The only way to win is not to play.
If only that were what he’d said, BBH.
– Leigh, I’m not saying he had any idea that was the implication of his use of the term “legitimate rape”, but thats how the slut crowd heard it, always hears it, because its the one thing that scares the living crap out of them, that their great scam crusade for choice, were they get to murder their little bastards at will might lose momentum if that subjevct is even hinted at.
– Its their penultimate nightmare, and they react with a torrent of mad babbling rehtoric, never once allowing that to be uttered or disscussed rationally.
– I have no way of knowing what Akins thinks, but judging from the kitchen table comments he made I don’t think he realized what a sacred cow he was goring.
It’s not hard. You scour the shire AFTER the fucking war.
jcw46
I do not care who is supported by the tea party.
Neither they, not Karl Rove, nor Abraham Fucking Lincoln, is my Master.
O’Donnell was a mistake.
That mistake pertains not to Akin.
Why is that so fucking hard to understand?
Enlisting witchie-poo O’Donnell does not help the cause of LIBERTY
Yeah! 16 whole seconds of the problem with progressives! Except he didn’t mention Baracky. Or maybe I just wasn’t smart enough to catch his True Conservative signal.

why do you want to defeat akin rather than mccaskill?
BigBangHunter says August 24, 2012 at 9:12 pm
BBH, I didn’t say that. That was Pablo.
“I wonder who he’ll pardon?”
Can’t pardon people until they’ve been charged with something.
BBH, perhaps I’m too quick to gloss over that as I know exactly what he meant. It was a rhetorical gift to the proggs, but they have to malign his intent to use it, and I don’t default there, so it doesn’t really register with me. It was that other thing…
That’s why I included Blago.
Because you’re an idiot. Pay attention.
O’Donnell was a mistake.
That mistake pertains not to Akin.
Why is that so fucking hard to understand?
Enlisting witchie-poo O’Donnell does not help the cause of LIBERTY
oh witch thing WHO EFFIN’ did that? (rove guy?) just axing?

why do you want to defeat akin rather than mccaskill?
Is that a mailer? I never read those. He needs a punchy radio spot and surrogates to GOTV.
Oh, wait. My bad. A Flyer? A fucking flyer? You could put that on someone’s windshield! OMG, that changes EVERYTHING!!!!
This guy is a lock.
– Yes, but my technicolor great coat lets me know what you were thinking Leigh, or something. :)
Because you’re an idiot. Pay attention.
no you are the idiot because akin staying in is the reality. you clowns can’t get off the high horse of your righteous indignation of a minor gaffe. sorry ain’t following the stuck on stupid crowd no more.
why do you want to defeat akin rather than mccaskill?
– I don’t know. Why does the Left want to defeat McCaskill instead of Akin.
– Its the mystery alright.
Heh, BBH. Or something like that indeed.
Oh, wait. My bad. A Flyer? A fucking flyer? You could put that on someone’s windshield! OMG, that changes EVERYTHING!!!!
no it doesn’t. i now know that you are an unserious person in this great battle that is being waged. you are more than willing to let the proggtards define your reality. chris matthews feels a tingle in your leg zombie.
nr – Terrence, this is stupid stuff.
it’s this Akin person what definitely defines his own reality Mr. newrouter
he’s a driver he’s a winner things are gonna change he can feel it
– I’d never let Chrissie “no balls” Mathew anywhere near my leg nr.
No shit, Sherlock. This guy has it all. I’m pretty sure I already said that.
So, how much did you send him so he can save America?
Dude, he’s had printing done. He’s got a flyer! Amazing, ain’t it? If you’re going to run for the United States Senate you really have to step up your game, but this is just above and beyond.
A flyer! And 16 whole seconds of his press conference? McCaskill is totally shitting herself right now.
Team Akin, FTW!!! I’ma get me a rubber stamp and change the world!
– feets, McCaskil is so bad the Dems gave Akin 1.5 million to help him defeat her.
– And when you’re in the same party with Reid and Polosi, that sort of bad must be record setting.
” McCaskill is totally shitting herself right now.”
Hell yeah! ‘Cause you got her back dude! She can sip Mint Juleps while Akin dodges rocks with little elephants painted on them.
So, how much did you send him so he can save America?
claire mccaskill thanks you. i’m not sending him anything because there are aholes like you and ace his lizard tribe all down on akin. i’m sure if coulter/hannity change their minds you’ll change yours. it is all about the group think ax the proggtards?
McCaskill is bad but she wields the press incumbency and money now
we have a flyer
I know this is going to come as a shock to you, but my overriding concern in this election is that McCaskill lose. And I know this will be doubly shocking, but the pw comment section means fuck all in the greater scheme of Missouri electoral politics.
Money bomb! Everybody but me get in right now!
Very staunch, nr.
“we have a flyer”
No we have a GOP denying him support, condemning him, virtually rooting for his opponent, and making fun of his flyer.
– Pablo! – you mean to say our euridite analysis does not enexoribly sway candidates and elections. Well what the fuck. That just plain sucks. I’m going to go sulk for about 2 minutes.
i’m not sending him anything because there are aholes like you and ace his lizard tribe all down on akin.
How do you expect him to win if you won’t kick in? You just told me to send him some dough.
How do you expect Akin to make a difference if you won’t even help out?
Cite?
Romney, Ryan or that goddamn Rove?
I’m sure it’s a very nice flyer
Devastating but true, BBH. Our observations and musings mostly stay right here. This is why I hate mankind.
“I know this is going to come as a shock to you, but my overriding concern in this election is that McCaskill lose. ”
Uh huh. Yeah. Your actions and words so far certainly indicate that is your overriding concern.
Who cares what Ace thinks? To check the weather he has to pull his head out of Allah pundits ass.
How do you expect him to win if you won’t kick in? You just told me to send him some dough.
How do you expect Akin to make a difference if you won’t even help out?
sorry losing effort because team r told me. they could change their minds and yours i’m sure.
” virtually rooting for his opponent
Cite? ”
Oh. You still haven’t worked out the whole his own party furiously attacking Akin supports his opponent and makes her more likely to win the seat dynamic? Okay.
“Romney, Ryan or that goddamn Rove?”
Stupid is stupid.
i want to see the akin timeline. which rino did the 1st salvo?
What’s weird is that it turns out I caused the Red Sox to suck, because I’ve been bitching so much about them sucking.
No, I’m looking for evidence that any of these people want McCaskill to win. You seem to forget that this was supposed to be a walk, and now Akin is losing. Maybe tou could quote one of these people who, after the deadline passed. said that he should lose the race. It’s been pretty much radio silence on him since them, from what I see, but you’re welcome to correct me on that, if you can.
Yup.
And it’s official, folks. newrouter wants McCaskill to win. Absolutely proven, by his own standard.
– Pablo, it’s not you it’s the green monster. That, and sKerry still cuts in line at WalMarts.
What’s weird is that it turns out I caused the Red Sox to suck, because I’ve been bitching so much about them sucking.
nah you keep trying to make the home team lose. along with, ace malkin, hannity, levin. you went with the stupid eff of the blogtarddofsphere.
” And it’s official, folks. newrouter wants McCaskill to win. Absolutely proven, by his own standard.”
Yeah that’s how sarcasm works.
newrouter wants McCaskill to win.
too proggtard mr pablo
i like how alinsky is all the rage on the proggtard right with akin. rule 13 i think.
“No, I’m looking for evidence that any of these people want McCaskill to win. ”
‘Looking for’ or ignoring the obvious fact that they are helping McCaskill to win and maing it harder for Akin to regain any momentum by constantly bagging on him like he was Jerry Sandusky while leaving his opponent alone?
“You seem to forget that this was supposed to be a walk, and now Akin is losing.”
Nope. I seem to forget that D+R is no more than D-R or even D in your universe. Too bad that election is probably going to take place in mine.
“Stupid is stupid. ”
When I said that, I meant that when Limbaugh, Coulter, Malkin, Rove, etc. do something that is so obviously stupid as to attack their candidate and ignore his opponent when discussing a scandal it remains stupid despite who they are. Compounding Akin’s stupidity with even greater stupidity is a stupid thing to do no matter who gets swept up into doing it. A list of names did not make the act less stupid or destructive or less against republican goals to take the senate.
Hey, but you have flyers to make fun of n’shit.
– As much as I enjoy a good old fashioned “he said, he said” death match, I’ll make a feeble attempt to jerk the thread back on topic.
– I thought team Romneys birther qyp was a well played mind fuck on Obama’s moronic followers.
– Their reaction was exactly what you would expect from a disturbed, very nervous defense team, that in reality lose sleep at night worrying that there’s truth in them thar hills, and the looming prospect of an October earthquake surprise. I heart that.
“What’s weird is that it turns out I caused the Red Sox to suck, because I’ve been bitching so much about them sucking.”
That was a great straw man and a bad analogy. The Red Sox athletic perfromancs is not influenced by fan bitching the way polls are influenced by your whole party turning on you and refusing to support you and saying that you have no hope of winning and should get out. Much of Akin’s performance IS directly affect by people’s bitching, especially his political party and their allied pundits and celebrities.
Hey, but Akin has a FLYER maaaan! Alright! And he’s an idiot!
Pick the target, freeze it, personalize and polarize it.
– As a matter of fact, he said, pointedly ignoring the Akin express, its good to see Romney keeping the Wonce on the defensive. More chance we’ll get some real gem gaffe’s in the near future, because lets face it, when you go stuck on stupid enough to piss off even Charlie Rangle, you’re really in the political crapper.
I thought team Romneys birther qyp was a well played mind fuck on Obama’s moronic followers.
I did too. Obama cannot stand being made fun of. I hope Mitt talks about how he’s heard Obama really really sucks at golf and that’s why there’s no film of him playing unlike all the other presidents before him. Who were, obviously, much better at it than him because we’ve seen them drive.
He can throw a pitch into a strike zone. Heck, Mitt can talk about playing ball with his boys when they were young while burning a few pitches to one of them in old home movies. Movies that will also feature him and the boys chopping wood for a campire, zipping around in their ChrisCraft cabin cruiser and fishing. Mitt might have film of himself skiing with Ann. Black Diamond slope.
Obama would be pea green because what does he have? Pics of himself toking up? Fat kid pictures?
Heh. The possibilities are endless.
Alright! And he’s an idiot!
do the alinsky. go grrl
Pablo says August 24, 2012 at 9:53 pm
“What’s weird is that it turns out I caused the Red Sox to suck, because I’ve been bitching so much about them sucking.”
Apples and Oranges.
Baseball is a game of chance, skill and team work.
An election is a contest pitting the perceptions of the electorate of the candidates and their expectations and requirements of those candidates. Therefore such a contest can be easily swayed by erroneous perceptions presented by either side against the other. It ‘s done all the time.
Now if the Red Sox Manager came out and said the Red Sox Suck, we’d all be amazed and there actually might be a decline in attendance. And he’d get fired for his disloyalty.
That’s what’s going on in MO.
Yes, Akin said something stupid and by that act alone probably hurt his chances. However because of the piling on by the Estab. Reps and the various righty blogs and radio/tv pundits AND the withdrawal of funds from his campaign it has been virtually assured.
that he will lose.
For anyone to now say it’s all his fault if the Reps don’t take the Senate or if Romney loses is BS. If they’d let it play out or work behind the scenes to do some damage control, then it would make sense but that’s not what they did. Or are doing.
OK.
So, I get all of that and no answer whatsoever to this: “It’s been pretty much radio silence on him since them, from what I see, but you’re welcome to correct me on that, if you can.”
That gets crickets.
OMG PART OF THE HUGE CONSPIRACY IS BLINDING YOU TO THE HUGE CONSPIRACY THAT I CAN’T EVEN POINT OUT TO YOU BECAUSE IT’S TOO SECRET AND ROVE!!!!!!
Come one. This may be a small house these days but you still need to do better than that here.
– “The bystanders likely were hit by police officers’ stray gunfire, some of it bullets that rebounded off planters in front of the skyscraper and grazed pedestrians.”
– So does this mean we can expect the Bloomborg to take guns away from the evil police?
– Or maybe he could just ban guns within a 4 block radius of the Empire state building.
Right. That’s also why Christine O’Donnell lost to a Marxist by 17 points. Except she didn’t start out 5 points up against him. That bastard Rove. If he runs the world, though, how did Obama get elected?
That’s also why Christine O’Donnell lost to a Marxist by 17 points.
you guys were bitching about the witch not the commie. stuff it.
pablo: ace is the place
Let’s begin genetically engineering candidates that don’t say anything the left will ever be able to use against us.
We have the technology.
Doesn’t matter. Goldwater lost huge. Doesn’t make him a shitty conservative worthy of scorn. He eventually gave us Reagan. Maybe O’Donnell will eventually give us something. Like an eye-of-newt potion that makes Republican beta males stop acting like pussies.
And no, you aren’t one of them, Pablo, but there are plenty out there. And frankly, it pains me to be associated with them.
BTW, probably? Probably?
I think that’s the understatement of the day.
Be that as it may, Jeff, you’ve got to admit that this guy is a tomato can. It’s little wonder McCaskill wanted him. She knows him a hell of a lot better than we do.
Of course it’s small. If I want it to be bigger I have to get on board with the wildings / networked pragmatism that will help us get our power back. Which we won’t be able to use for fear of losing our power.
That, and stop being such a prickly dick. But mostly the first part.
He’s got 70-something days left, and he was definitely salvageable. It’s a shame the right thought they could get him out and get their candidate in. They shouldn’t have taken that tack until they knew they could do it.
Instead, I bet they alienated a lot of hardcore pro lifers. That could have an impact in the general election. Socons can often times be made to feel like the GOP really only likes them for their votes. Other than that they are embarrassments and have to be kept on a short leash, in terms of public articulation of their silly dogma. Their beliefs are moronic, after all.
Well, it wouldn’t be any fun if you did that. For us, anyway. The mad crony blog money would be sweet, though.
– If Akin goes on to win in spite of the omslaught, that could make him a bullet-proof Pol.
– The party would have no choice but to shift the attacks behind the scenes.
Was he? Is he? I’m not seeing where he’s got that kind of game. I wish I did, but I don’t.
It’s little wonder McCaskill wanted him
maybe the best reason to send akin money pablo. defeat claire no?
– The newest gift that keeps on giving. The Left just can’t help themselves.
NRO, Fox News, and AoSHQ are radio silence huh? No one here but us crickets! Chirp Chirp!

Okay. So feel free to start doing better than “that” stupid shit you just typed whenever you are ready. I never said any of that and don’t even see any secrecy at work here. Where did that nonsense come from and who/what are you even lampooning now?
The only conspiracy theories I’ve heard on the matter so far were:
1.) He only won the primary in the first place because of democrat support and they chose him because he’s so dumb,Christy, right wing and thus easier to beat than his more moderate republican opposition.
2.) He’s only still in the race because of a skewed poll and democrat money.
3.) Democrats want him in the race instead of …whoever else might run.
3.) Democrats want him in the race instead of …whoever else might run.
nah proggtard gop need an alinshy rule 13 to keep the lgf lizards engaged.
Stayin’ Alive
We can try to understand the New York Times’ effect on man.
– Romney should drop indirect references to the birther issue at evey campaign stop. Make it a staple of his stump speevhes. Something like “Well hello there to the great state of _____. I wasn’t born here, my birth certificate says Michigan, but we’re all the same people and in this together.”
– The Left would go bat-shit crazy every time, plus they’ll spend more money they don’t have on denial ads they can’t afford, while R&R just smiles and goes for the economy issues.
An Obama campaign official says Biden is putting off Monday’s trip in order to ensure that all local law enforcement and emergency management resources can stay focused on Tropical Storm Isaac, which could impact Florida during the convention.
– What a guy…..putting the safety of the public and all those hard working first responders ahead of his bosses campaign.
– Isn’t that just like the Left though, Sure, go ahead and blame it on a Jew.
– Personally, its more likely the Wonce’s campaign cadre decided not to roll the dice this time.
The Campaign was more or less okay. It was the recount battle the sucked. Because Norm wanted to be seen as fair. What did that get him? And in any case, no Republican Senator has been reelected by Minnesotans since 1988. Graham and Coleman were both single termers. And that git Klobuchar might as well be running unchallenged.
Which right there tells you more than you want to know about the state of the GOP in Minnesota!
Get yer “fake friends“, cheap. Just think what some real stimulating money can buy.
Now about those polls…….
Okay. If I’d have scrolled through the whole thread, I wouldn’t have bothered about Norm Coleman.
Here’s the thing about Akin and O’Donnel from my humble middle of the prairie hayseed point of view. Akin and O’Donnel both won their primaries. They won the right to represent the Republican party to the electorate. Now, while it’s true that the national party has limited resources and thus has the right and responsibility to determine how to best use those resources, I think the candidates have the right not to expect their party to start bleateing to anybody who’ll listen that they can’t win regardless of whether that’s true or not. If the SRCC and the RNC think spedning money on Akin or O’Donnel is a waste of resources, fine. But they shouldn’t shout that fact into the nearest microphone.
Also, Jeff”s point in this post stand. The people trying to explain away Romney’s “birther” quip as a bad joke (and I think they’re wrong, I agree that it’s an effective bit of strategery) are the same people that would be in full CHINESE FIREDRILL PANIC! tonight had it come from somebody like O’Donnell or Angle, or Akin, for that matter.
Because the fact is social conservatives are an embarrassment to the Republican establishment.
“Sure, go ahead and blame it on a Jew”
Don’t be silly. Isaac was a muslim just like Jesus. Except Ishmael was a BETTER muslim.
I would tie it to his tax returns. “They keep demanding that I release more of my tax returns. I’m starting to wonder when they’ll ask to see my birth certificate.”
If he wanted to mix it up, he could throw out “college transcripts” now and then.
All Obama’s friends and followers vote Democrat, every time.
I like it. And if the media questions him about respond with something like, ” I wasn’t talking to you, pretty sure your’re not going to vote for me any way.”
Because he’s a Bushie first and a Republican second?
(gotchya there, didn’ I?)
Thanks, Geoff. This election cycle hadn’t quite depressed me enough. Up until I read those links there was still the slightest little glimmer of hope…
Andrew Ferguson pens an appreciation of Mitt Romney — as Andy would have it — of all people.
If Romney has taken onboard the old saw “never let them see you sweat”, I’d recommend he alter it to “never let them see you sniggering behind your hand”.
I never could get into twitter. It seems like a voluntary junk mail list system at best and a source of pointless and exhibitionist texts at worst.
“Making a sandwich! Love that glazed turkey! Mmmm! ”
“Man, is this light ever going to change? I’ve been stuck here for a minute!”
” Wow. A lot of birds in the park today! Real birds not women. ”
“Oh no! I think I may have a lump on my dick! :( “
… and know here comes sdferr trying to get my hopes up again…

This is another one of those insightful gems maha Rushie reminds us of. For the Establishment, Goldwater is a shitty Republican because he lost huge. Regardless of his conservative bona fides. And the Establishment is too afraid of a repeat of ’64 to try to repeat ’80.
Which didn’t benefit them anyways, because, hello?!? Reagan wasn’t part of the Republican establishment.
@Ernst
Exactamundo.
So many seem to forget that what the Republican movers and shakers really want is not what they say they want. Because they say they want what they think the base thinks it wants.
Neither is correct so both mistrust the other because one was pandering and the other was misinformed or confused.
I try to follow the rule; ye shall know them by their works.
The Republicans proved from 1994 to 2006 what they really, really got themselves elected to do.
Fortunately SOME of what they did was ok for the country but for the most part; no. And they definitely were doing better than Obama is now.
That they let the Dems pull that crap with forcing banks to sell subprime loans and then de regulating the markets so that banks could participate (one of the rules enacted because of the OTHER Great Depression) and guess what? The financial gamblers packaged a bunch of toxic loans and sold them as an asset!!!!!! And the Banks bought them and used them to claim solvency.
When this Madoff (Ponzi is so twentieth century) scheme folded, everyone was standing around playing musical chairs with a bomb in the form of immediate and catastrophic crash.
suddenly boom we’s gots to bail out all these poor bankers or we’re going down the tubes.
but wait, there’s more. We then elect a marxist trained community organizer who has no math skills, never been required to actually produce anything who thinks that money grows on rich people’s farms and it just needs to be harvested.
Now the banks who were saved are holding tight to their money and nobody wants to make an investment as the gov’t has made it too unpredictable with too many and too harsh rules about producing stuff.
Everyone is blase’ about this because; hey the markets up!!!1!!!!!
The market also came back after the ’29 crash. It don’t mean sh!t as far as the economy of the country goes.
No confidence and punitive rules along with not knowing what other crap idea Obama will pull out of the marxist’s fulminating bag of mush. (a political and economic theory that has proved to be a disaster anywhere it’s been tried)
Yet we come to an election where this unachiever is being faced with an overachiever who’s part and parcel of those bankers and investors that were more like scavengers than producers. (scavengers serve a purpose; they dispose of dead or dying entities and either revive them or eat them up so that something else can take it’s place but when there’s too many of them, the balance isn’t there so the prey dies off too fast.)
Is the country the ultimate scavenge? Do he and his buddies really care about the loss of liberty and freedom in this country due to over extended government controls? or are we just a new project to manage into a grave or a stripped down revival?
I wonder. He’s not exactly an anti-government kind of guy. Regardless that it was Mass. He did manage to convince the most liberal State to elect him and he put in place some very big governmentish sort of programs before he left.
I don’t believe we’ll see a repeal of Obamacare (Senate gained or not) nor will he spend much time rolling back all the EO’s that Obama wrote to subsume power from Congress.
We’ll probably see lots and lots of spending cuts for social stuff but little on the corporate welfare side and little improvement in the economy. There’s going to be angry people in the streets (not because they missed their beemer payment but because they can’t feed their family) who aren’t going to satisfied with being the ones thrown off the island for the “greater good”.
O’Donnell actually beat Castle in the primary with a plurality. Delaware Republicans had the right to choose and they choose.
Akin won by getting just over a third of Republicans. I do not think pro life people are alienated by what happened (seriously do you think they are going to walk away and not vote or vote for McCaskill or Obama over this?). The loss is probably independents and moderates. Rush was correct in noting this was not about denouncing the pro life position. Had Akin just said he opposes all abortions he would not be in this mess. Whether Akin was or is salvageable remains to be seen, but I absolutely agree the public attacks on Akin were counter productive.
When Weiner had his tweet fest, I do not recall that many Democrats falling over one another publicly to disavow and destroy him…Schumer went to him privately to tell him he was through.
I shouldn’t be amazed by the stupidity of Republicans anymore but they just never cease to miss every opportunity to fight back when they’re given golden opportunities. They just won’t do it. I don’t know if it’s that they don’t have anybody smart enough to see these opportunities, or they’re just too scared of the reaction.
This current flap over abortion could be a real winner for Republicans if they seized on the “EXTREME” meme and threw it right back in the Democrats faces. The interview Debbie Wasserman-Shultz had with Anderson Cooper was a perfect opportunity for Republicans to latch onto her constant refrain of “womens’ reproductive health choices”, which means abortion without saying the word abortion.
The Romney campaign should have immediately dispatched John Sununu to every show that would have him and he should have accused Wasserman Shultz of advocating abortion on demand as a form of birth control, talked about Obama’s voting record with the Infant Born Alive act, partial birth abortion and other votes. That’s extreme. That’s radical. Even the most staunch pro-abortion advocates HATE having to explain why they are against any law that restricts late term abortions. They don’t even like to say the word abortion. Make them say it. Make them defend their positions.
But nope. They won’t even use Bill Clinton to counter the whole “rape” thing. Oh, man, what a golden opportunity they were handed with Bill as the keynote speaker at the DNC. But crickets so far.
No, the party. Beyond the deadline, you’ve given me something called Ford O’Connell from the notoriously GOP based (yet oddly, Democrat owned) US News and World Report, and Keith Ablow commenting on Akin, and, well: “Giuliani slams NY Times”. This was supposed to be evidence that, as you’ve told us, his own party wants McCaskill to win. None of this is any of that.
Let’s try this again, and I’ll type slowly: Where are the party movers and shakers taking shots at Akin after Tuesday?
So are you going to do it now?
“Let’s try this again, and I’ll type slowly: Where are the party movers and shakers taking shots at Akin after Tuesday?”
I thought your burden of proof was “radio silence” on the topic. Y’know implying that no damage was done because nobody was talking about it anymore.
And type slowly? After “Oh shit he has a flyer guys” I’m supposed to give half a shit if you want to play “I’ll type it slowly for you” ?
After ” everybody bitching has had no effect only Akin’s gaff has” ?
Fuck that noise.
“as you’ve told us, his own party wants McCaskill to win”
No. I said that his own party is helping McCaskill to win and that they are virtually doing her job for her.
Nobody gives a fuck what they want. Intentions don’t matter. It’s what they’ve actually DONE that matters.
Tell me why it doesn’t matter. Tell me what good the circular firing squad reflex does. Tell me how it doesn’t help McCaskill and how the GOP has no poll influence. Tell me how it doesn’t amplify the message that McCaskill deserves the seat more than Akin does. Go on. Explain.
Type slowly if you have to.
I seriously want to see the minor specific or pedantic technicality that makes circular firing squad a good idea or makes what happened not have happened.
I want to know what “Akin is an idiot and should leave” does for the GOP.
Because it looks like a stupid stupid fuck up in messaging and a gimme to the democrats to me. I dunno. I guess it might have felt good. But it’s still stupid and obviously inconsistent with the goal of retaking the senate.
Once he was well and truly busted, they pulled out the knives, but not until then.
If it pushes him out of the race by 5 PM Tuesday, it gets him replaced with someone who can beat McCaskill, namely any Republican who isn’t Todd Akin. I don’t like the looks of it. I don’t like the RNC very publicly pulling the rug on him. But there is an undeniable logic to doing it. This notion that it’s because they want to lose the seat is ridiculous. You can tell me they’re dumb, you can tell me they’re craven, but you can’t tell me they’re on Team Claire.
Here we go.
The party.

Yep. Radio silence. Crickets.
“This notion that it’s because they want to lose the seat is ridiculous. You can tell me they’re dumb, you can tell me they’re craven, but you can’t tell me they’re on Team Claire.”
I can tell you what they are doing is helping team Claire.
“Once he was well and truly busted, they pulled out the knives, but not until then.”
Which democrats had knives?
Party, not pundits. Pundits get paid to jawjack. The MO GOP chair would qualify. Let’s see:
Boy, what a bastard. Clearly, he wants McCaskill to win. And a memo to members of the State Committee? Might as well shout it from the rooftops: “Holy shit, did you see that Rasmussen poll!?!”
Even the Wicked Witch of San Francisco threw him under the bus.
Coulter: We need Republicans out there saying, “Akin’s not our candidate; our candidate is Kit Bond.”
Because, well, Claire.
“Party, not pundits. Pundits get paid to jawjack. The MO GOP chair would qualify. Let’s see:”
I already gave you party. Maybe you should READ slowly.
And frankly bullshit on that party only threshold anyway. Pundits count. The party often uses them to get the message out. Bloggers count. They aren’t on some plane above it all. They are TRYING to be influential.
“Coulter: We need Republicans out there saying, “Akin’s not our candidate; our candidate is Kit Bond.””
Is kit Bond the cnadidate? Does this help Claire? Yes. it does.
“Boy, what a bastard. Clearly, he wants McCaskill to win. And a memo to members of the State Committee? Might as well shout it from the rooftops: “Holy shit, did you see that Rasmussen poll!?!””
Yeah. But several times now I’ve explained that their intent is not important but the effect is.
The issue is GOP and GOP allies helping McCasjkill to win not their wanting her to win or having a conspiracy to help her win. Their actions are exactly what one would do if one wanted McCaskill to win. Whether they want her to win or not, THEIR ACTIONS ARE EXACTLY WHAT ONE WOULD DO IF ONE WANTED McCASKILL TO WIN. How they feel? Who cares?
The problem is that THEIR ACTIONS ARE EXACTLY WHAT ONE WOULD DO IF ONE WANTED McCASKILL TO WIN. The why is eclipsed by the what.
Come on Pablo. PW has been about not playing by the left’s rules. You’ve been about pragmatism. The GOP can go pound sand.
That you are all about beating the Dem is nice and all, but the GOP?
Yes, I read about the memo from the state party chair to the state committee outrageously noting that Akin is going to lose. Slowly. I can’t believe he picked so huge a platform to make such a vicious attack!
Aside from that, you’ve given me what? Huckabee? Well, he agrees with you.
No, if Kit Bond is the candidate, Claire loses. If Todd Akin is the choice, she wins. What helps Claire again?
If you say you don’t want B to win and you fuck A over such that B gains a huge advantage and keep fukcing A over, then you ARE helping B to win whether you want B to win or not. You might think you are helping C and defeated B. This is where the subject of collective stupidity and political incompetence rears its head. The GOP has demonstrated great stupidity and incompetence here and helped McCaskill. Are they declaring for her side? Who gives a fuck? They have still helped McCaskill.
That. Having the eternal propensity to shoot theirselfs in both feet…they blame Akin.
…which, quick! Somebody find another Republican.
“No, if Kit Bond is the candidate, Claire loses. If Todd Akin is the choice, she wins. What helps Claire again?”
“if Kit Bond is the candidate, Claire loses”
Does not follow.
” If Todd Akin is the choice, she wins.”
With massive GOP help.
“What helps Claire again?”
The GOP response to Akin’s gaffe. Obviously. Kit Bond is not a fig leaf big enough to cover that crooked dork of a hail mary.
“But there is an undeniable logic to doing it.”
No, there is a lame gamble to doing it. At best. And it hasn’t turned out well. At all.
We call those fuck ups in real life.
“Yes, I read about the memo from the state party chair to the state committee outrageously noting that Akin is going to lose. Slowly. I can’t believe he picked so huge a platform to make such a vicious attack! ”
So I met your burden of proof and gold posts were moved and mockery ensued.
” Aside from that, you’ve given me what? Huckabee? Well, he agrees with you.”
I gave you Mirengoff talking about Huckabee and criticizing him for agreeing with Akin and suggesting that Huckabee and So-CONS were losing stock with the GOP over this and it was written after your Tuesday radio silence deadline.
SLLLOOOWWWWLLYYY
gold posts – ? goal posts.
EVERYONE in the primary was beating Claire. All of them. ANY popular Republican will beat her. Todd Akin is not a popular Republican. Kit Bond is loved in MO. Last time he ran he pulled 56%. Which is what Akin should be pulling, instead of the 38% he’s currently sitting at.
But I know. All of this is the fault of people who noticed him setting himself on fire. You can’t blame the guy with the matches and gasoline.
Right. And Mirengoff has to be worth, what 4 points in a MO Senate race? While Huckabee, the Governor and Pres candidate with his national TV and Radio shows? Who?
Akin is losing and he sucks at this. Everyone will notice and people who write about this stuff for a living are going to mention it, left, right and center. Get used to it. Meanwhile, what’s the party doing?
We’ve been through this twenty times.
WHY is Todd Akin not a popular Republican. Answer: political culture, headed by the left with the right’s compliance.
Thanks for agreeing.
GOP pragmatists continuing to pound on Akin is stupid at this point. The GOP has brilliantly painted itself into a corner regarding Akin.
If Akin stays in the race, the left will continue to use Akin as the “bunny” moment of the 2012 campaign season.
If Akin quits, the left will still use Akin as the “bunny” moment of the campaign while also using Akin as the poster child for social con values and how social con values are EVIL.
The GOP has graciously handed the left a heads we win/tail you lose campaign issue.
hmm, I think I should have reversed the above comments in regards to “should I stay or should I go now” Akin.
Anyway, you get my point, no matter how inarticulately made it might have been.
The right did not go looking for this. The right, save Todd Akin, did not do it. The media landscape is what it is and we can all agree that it’s polluted. But knowing that to be the case, the right, from the RNC to Tea Party Express to Rove to Palin and Levin have been trying to control the damage. Hamfisted though some of these attempts may be, they are not the cause of the problem. They are not driving Akin’s negatives like Akin is driving Akin’s negatives.
” Hamfisted though some of these attempts may be, they are not the cause of the problem. They are not driving Akin’s negatives like Akin is driving Akin’s negatives.”
Bullshit.
This Insignificant Blog™ operates on a completely different level of thought and in another physical domain than any on-the-street political campaign. Whatever happens in MO or in any state, county, or city in the US does not precondition what Jeff and others must rightly say:
The right is the left’s enabler.
When Ace of Polls sniffs its own farts (great comment, palaeomerus) then apparently we need four more years of Obama or maybe ORomney’s perfecting national healthcare to finally beat into Ace’s and CAC’s and Gabe Malor’s heads that there’s a shitload more at stake here than their being the “right’s” Charles’s Johnson. On that glorious day, as they emerge onto the bombed streets and finally see sunlight, the first thing some of them are going to do is remember Protein Wisdom.
No?
Minor right talker Mike Gallagher may just have spearheaded 2016 Obama’s America being pushed into, as a reviewer put it, the national zeitgeist. Love him or hate him, Ron Paul has completely sold out the Tampa stadium for tomorrow.
The grassroots works. Principles work. And I need to live with myself. Fuck pragmatism.
You’re a smart guy, Pablo, and you know I know that. But being pragmatic doesn’t do two things: It doesn’t restore the Republic and it doesn’t replace good thought.
Ah, but won’t the marytrdom of Todd Akin be glorious for our souls? I’m sure there’s some guiding, foundational principle that ought to comfort me as I watch this tomato can lose to the Marxist Missouri Hated a month ago. Todd mentioned that there’s a principle at play here. Maybe in his next 30 second speech, he’ll tell us what that is.
“Right. And Mirengoff has to be worth, what 4 points in a MO Senate race? While Huckabee, the Governor and Pres candidate with his national TV and Radio shows? Who?”
How is this even a reposnse to “I gave you Mirrengoff? ” Seriously. This is an example a pundit keeping the ball in the air after you said there was radio silence after tuesday. Stop with the alchemy. It won’t conveniently turn into anything else.
” Akin is losing and he sucks at this. Everyone will notice and people who write about this stuff for a living are going to mention it, left, right and center. Get used to it. Meanwhile, what’s the party doing?”
The Party, the pundits, have all sucked at this. They have helped Akin lose. They have helped McCaskill. Because they suck at this. The punditts were mostly following the party’s example. But the party’s idea of how to deal with this SUCKED. So the Pundits helped the GOP suck on how to handle Akin. They did it for days. They were still doing it last night. That is a fucking problem. It is not Akin’s problem. It is their problem. Akin has problems of his own but they do not obscure the problems the GOP and the their pundits had with this.
If their goal is to take the senate then they really screwed up big time. Akin hurt himself and they hurt him even worse all of which helped Claire. Maybe they didn’t think of it that way, but it happened. The GOP did the democrats dirty work with greater enthusiasm than they had in trying to win the senate back. That is a bad thing.
Right. Todd Akin didn’t screw himself. People talking about Todd Akin did it. Fucking racists.
” I’m sure there’s some guiding, foundational principle that ought to comfort me as I watch this tomato can lose to the Marxist Missouri Hated a month ago. ”
Yes. The GOP helped him lose to a Marxist. If that doesn’t comfort you, it is still what just happened.
Let me expand on that. What crosses the Establican mind the very first day after ORomney’s elected? You know, given their rank hostility to classical liberalism.
1. Hey, let’s go befriend us some nice libertarians.
2. Fuck those third Party fucks. Now we show em how DC works.
Pick one.
Claire McCaskill matters? Are you sure?
“Right. Todd Akin didn’t screw himself. People talking about Todd Akin did it. Fucking racists.”
Todd Akin screwed himself. Instead of helping him, his side jumped to condemned him and screwed him EVEN MORE. Then the pundits jumped in and screwed him EVEN MORE and STILL ARE. Now they all seem to want a medal for acting so stupidly and charge their own “aftermath” stupidity to Akin’s account (which is odd since the people condemning Akin seem to focus on how he is stupid and they are smart).
Republicans are the ideal target of divide and conquer tactics. The hyenas just point to the ones they want and the herd pushes them right out so the hyenas won’t laugh at them, but those hyenas still laugh at them anyway. And that’s the ones who are running for critical senate seats. You should see how they treat the dudes with nothing to offer.
Bullshit. You said… I repeat: You said his own party is virtually rooting for his opponent, and I’ve been asking for evidence while you move the goalposts since. Show me anyone in the party attacking him since 5 PM Tuesday. Put up or shut up. This ain’t it.
Can’t we talk about something more relevant? Like the Children’s Crusade, or the Molotov-von Ribbentrop Pact?
– Who the hell is Kit Bond?
he’s that guy what doesn’t prattle on about bizarre rape theories
– Kerist but Missourians seem to have a crazy aunt in the attic time of it in elections. I seem to remember another dude from Independence who had to wait for a pres to die to get the WH, and then when he ran for the office he had to announce his own victory because no one believed it.
– Maybe they should just have their candidates draw straws and save everyone a lot if headaches and blogs countless text bites of bullshit.
– What a bunch of knobs.
Yep.
And of course who can forget Thomas Eagleton, old Mr. 1000%.
Once you’ve nuked Hiroshima do you need to do it again? The question we should be asking is who is Nagasaki?
Ace and Jonah and Malkin and the rest do good work for the most part. They usually provide good, entertaining reads. However, politicians fuck up. They do mystifyingly self-destructive things. When they are not busy trying to fuck us, and that includes the John Boehners of the world. Funny how Romney’s birth certificate remark hasn’t produced the choreographed, handwringing condemnations that Akin did. Just excuses.
The snarkosphere is so determined to win this that they either lost perspective or are making an unspoken admission: are they really saying that winning the Senate pivots on the McCaskill seat? Because it’s hard to see it otherwise. If so, that means one thing. All the pragmatists counting on winning both chambers and the presidency have been rather unpragmatically lying to themselves. If this thing is that tight, perhaps it might be pragmatic for the pundocrats to spend twice as much cyberspace attacking McCaskill instead of Akin.
Knock it off, tough guys. Let the progs babble about sacramental abortion and superpower uteruses. You don’t have time to waste on Akin. Attack McCaskill. It’s the practical thing to do. But if you have a nutty cousin in the attic, or the neighbors think you do, whining about how he won’t move out instead of talking about the crack house next door rented by the Democrats, makes you look either weak, misguided, or immature.
Do the wizards of smart believe that Tom Coburn is a team player?
– I’ll take ‘immature’ for 1000 Alex.
– Here’s another line Romney could use:
– President Onama says the private sector is doing fine, that we’re on the right track, headed in the right direction. I think theres millions of Americans struggling to feed their families that might wonder if he even reads his own governement economic reports. 8.3% unemplyment, households at lowest income since the recession. If thats the right track I wonder what the president would consider the wrong track.
– But maybe theres a reason he’s so out of touch on economics. Maybe if he’d have spent more of his 4 years in office worrying about the average hard working Americans taxes instead of mine we wouldn’t be faced with this disasterous economy umder his administration.”
Do the wizards of smart believe that Tom Coburn is a team player?
Dr. No? No, they do not.
Put more succinctly, who is more pragmatic Republican? The kind who has spent the last few days trying to be the loudest in condemning a stubborn Akin, or the kind who has doubled down on what a disaster McCaskill will be if re-elected? Have there been any of the second kind? Which approach is more likely to produce a good result for the ever-lovin’ Party of Stupid?
Do you want to win this, Republicans? Do you? Then start aiming your artillery elsewhere. Private Uterus Intacto isn’t likely to soldier on as ordered, so deal with it. You have a bigger fight to win.
This is from the griefer who refers to women with MS as diseased whores.
For the love of God, bh. PLEASE start a new topic!
I’m begging you.
This is from the griefer who never misses a chance to put in a kind word for nishi and thor.
Maybe if he’d have spent more of his 4 years in office worrying about the average hard working American’s taxes instead of mine we wouldn’t be faced with this disastrous economy under his administration.
Very nice.
BTW I’m almost sorry to have brought up Ace in the first place, but sweepin’ Jeebus on a pushbroom, if you try to express some reservations about the actual pragmatism of the Lynch Todd Akin approach over there, it would be like talking Von Mises to Daily Kos. Their hivemind has become as gravid as at Hot Gas.
It never occurs to some that there is a point when the firing squad actually becomes circular.
For the love of God, bh. PLEASE start a new topic!
Hopefully not obstetrics.
They hold the right kinds of left views, bh.
Staunch.
For the love of God, bh. PLEASE start a new topic!
We could set ourselves to discovering a novel starch which has yet to be put to the service of fermenting and distilling alcohols. Thus benefiting all mankind, to say nothing of the impoverished souls in Missouri.
I’ve been wondering if you can turn almond milk into beer.

No, no I haven’t.
– I’ve often wondered the same thing about breast milk.
I can’t wait for the snarkosphere to condemn Romney as an unhelpful birther.
Oh wait, they didn’t. Yet every MFM news report on the incident tried to whip up birtherism again. Doesn’t seem to have worked.
If only we could discover why.

– Jeff/bh/JHo/Darleen…..Maybe you could set aside a thread titled: The Missouri celeberity election death matches – Akin versus Staunch Pragmatics
….no early abortions, just let it run until after the elections.
The right is the left’s enabler.
Not the best way to state this. The pseudo right is the left’s enabler. The GOPE is the left’s enabler. Those that enable the left are certainly to the left of me.
I know, right?
I was embarrassed. Shouldn’t that count for something?
In evolutionary terms a man’s best strategy to perpetuate his genetic line is to screw anything he has the chance to get at. Foe a woman since she has a much larger investment in the baby her best strategy is to have a child with a partner who is going to be there for the long term.
It would make sense, from the standpoint of evolution as I said, for women to not be as readily able to get pregnant from events like rape and more likely to get pregnant when the male half is one they love and who loves them too.
Whether any such effect exists is not really known from what has been seen this week and with the political implications of the results if it was studied it would be, at this time, in the same class as climate studies.
Civilized society is based on reinforcing the female evolutionary model as one which brings stability to society in general. Of course the same folks who reject any thought that there might be some “magical” effect are the same ones who wish to throw out the whole raising children in a family based around a long term male-female loving relationship too. Funny that.
” Bullshit. You said… I repeat: You said his own party is virtually rooting for his opponent, and I’ve been asking for evidence while you move the goalposts since. Show me anyone in the party attacking him since 5 PM Tuesday. Put up or shut up. This ain’t it.”
Bullshit. I said HELPING. We’ve already cleared that up. Virtually rooting =Virtually.
Definition of VIRTUALLY
1
: almost entirely : nearly
2
: for all practical purposes
So, pretend you don’t understand what I said. Go the fuck on. Keep the farce moving. Ignore the actual issue being communicated and try for silly technicalities that obscure the actual issue under discussion.
And dude, THAT WAS IT. You MOVED THE GOAL POSTS. YOU ARE HIDING BEHIND ROOTING FOR and ignoring the meaning of VIRTUALLY. It won’t go away because you refuse to eat it. It was the party leadership of Missouri quoted by the paper attacking Akin after your stupid bullshit deadline of Tuesday. It simply kills your stupid argument. Not only is your test bullshit, but your avoidance of it being met is pure absolute bullshit. Claiming it’s not big enough a paper to count is BULLSHIT. It’s in theatre.
And the pundits ought to count anyway because they for the most part registered in the GOP and trying to influence things. So they do count. They have an effect. They act in concert with the party. So they DO count unless you want this argument to travel into magical conceptual realms where 1 +1 = beef on Tuesday. I get that you don’t count them, but so what? I do. I’ve explained why. Your explanation for why not is weak, pedantic, silly and worthless ott eh topic under discussion.
Your point of harping on virtually rooting for is lame. It is not some alien use of english. It is not unclear. Clinging to it misguidedly does nothing to defend your position. It does not show that the GOP is not responsible for helping McCaskill gain in the polls. It does not show a period of GOP pundit or party radio silence after Tuesday.
It does nothing but nothing.
Fuck you. I quoted you. The definition of virtually doesn’t help you here. This is really simple. The party was trying desperately to throw him under the bus, publicly and shamelessly, in the hope they could replace him before the deadline. Once that was virtually off the table, they stopped. You say that isn’t true, I’ve asked you repeatedly to prove me wrong and the closest you’ve come is an inside memo in the
…Missouri GOP. Derp.
” Fuck you. I quoted you.:
Fuck you right back. You quoted me to play asshole games. It has shit all to do with what were talking about and again you keep ignoring “virtually” anyway.
Your explanation for your continued flailing here is shit.
It’s just bullshit. It’s dumb bullshit. So go right ahead and bullshit some more if bullshitting is what you do bullshitter.
” …Missouri GOP. Derp.”
Yeah that was just magical. Good job. Hope it made you leg tingle more than it did mine.
JHo, apologies for the delay, but I had to go oppress some wimmen and brown people, not necessarily in that order. I has probably the better part of 250 words pecked out on my phone in response, which it decided to have for a snack. Grrrr.
Does Claire matter? Did retiring Dick Lugar matter? Does Murdoch matter? Does Rand Paul matter? Does Mike Lee matter? If any of them matter, then Claire does too.
I see what you’re seeing, but I don’t think I’m quite as far down the road to political nihilism as you are. Not that I blame you. I remain in hope for the best, prepare for the worst mode. But there is great cause for pessimism. Still, I’m going to continue pursuing the political solution, just because I really don’t want to see the other option which finds our countrymen slaughtering each other again. Call me crazy, and I won’t argue. But then, I’m not unprepared to take care of myself, so I’m not that crazy.
It’s a horrific mess, well beyond the comprehension of the vast majority of the people who are going to decide whether Akin or McCaskill goes to DC. It could be unfixable. It could be that our only hope is to burn DC down, salt the Earth and start over. But we’re not there yet, and until we are there, who we send there matters. If Claire doesn’t matter then Akin is less significant than a shitstain on a gnat’s ass.
I weep for my country. I pray for it too.
Boys! Don’t make me come up there!
Right. Asshole games like noting that you’re wrong. I’m such a prick.
That’s why I’m here, btw.
Why don’t you come down here, girlie? *wink wink*
I said bullshit bullshitter. We done.
Heh, Pablo.
Nice knowing ya, palaeo. Shame, ’cause you make good sense most of the time. But, whatever.
No shame on my end. Like you said, whatever.
I blush when I’m wrong. YMMV.

” I blush when I’m wrong. YMMV.”
Yeah. Obviously.
Y’know, a while back Jeff was bemoaning the fact that in the “good old days” it was a piece of cake to get a multi-hundred-comment thread going on this blog, and these days not so much.
Well, apparently all that’s necessary is a good divisive issue that threatens to tear the famously echo-chambery PW community assunder*, like the rival gangs in the Beat It video.
Still waiting for a begloved Michael Jackson-esque character to remind us that, at the end of the day, none of this matters worth a hill of beans — so we can just put down the switchblades and DANCE!
—
* The threads have been fascinating, and it’s clear that a lot of things would be better if Akin and the Establishment GOP and its cheerleaders were half as thoughtful as Jeff & his commentariat.
Jets and Sharks multi-task.
