Breaking: Shooting outside of Empire State Building [Darleen Click]

One gunman in custody

DEVELOPING: Multiple people were shot Friday near the Empire State building in Manhattan, the New York City Police Department confirmed to FoxNews.com.

Authorities would not say how many victims were shot. The New York City Fire Department said “several people” were injured in the shooting, which happened at 9:07 a.m. on 34th and 5th Avenue.

One gunman has been taken into custody, WABC-TV reported.

    Updated, it seems:

Authorities said at least three or four victims have been wounded in the shooting and that the gunman is dead. It is not clear if the gunman shot himself or was shot by someone else.

Kudos to whoever took him out. I can’t imagine how gun violence could have occurred in Nanny Bloomberg’s gun free Utopia. It’s unpossible.

Allah Akbar? Random lunatic? Janet “it was a lone wolf'” Napolitano? Do we know yet?

  3. Pablo says:

I’m seeing that he got fired yesterday, though no details on it. Today was worse, it seems.

  4. leigh says:

Pissed off former employee of a company that makes pocketbooks.

I hope he had a permit for that gun.

  5. Matt says:

I don’t understand. I thought anti-carry gun laws saved lives. Its almost like Bloomberg and liberals have lied to us.

  6. cranky-d says:

The problem is guns are still easily available everywhere else. Once no one anywhere can buy or own a gun, the shootings will stop.

Just ask the Australians from that clip JHo posted. They can tell you.

  7. Squid says:

I’m getting a kick out of the Chicagoans on Twitter asking why their 28 shootings in the last 2 days aren’t getting any publicity. I say they’re just jealous because they aren’t The Center Of The Universe.

  8. sdferr says:

77 people killed, 21 years in prison. Something’s disproportionate about that sentence, yes? It works out to 3.27 months per murdered person.

  9. Car in says:

Yea, four shot at one event? That’s a Saturday night in Detroit, and I never saw the media clamoring.

Funny, because when someone in Lapeer won the Power ball last week – EVERY news station was here.

Says something about something or other.

The media doesn’t care about dead black people unless a white Hispanic pulled the trigger.

  11. Pablo says:

…and they get permission from Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to talk about it.

  12. McGehee says:

Dozens of innocent people shot dead in Chicago is Dog Bites Man.

  13. OCBill says:

There should be a law against killing people.

  14. leigh says:

Lots of bystanders were shot—apparently by the po-lice as they were shooting at Mr. Shooter.

Soundbites from Hizzoner and Ray Kelly make many references to the “semi-sutomatic” handgun used by the shooter.

  15. Ernst Schreiber says:

Did they mention the semi-automatics used by the police, or were those the good kind of semi-automatics, and not worth mentioning?

  16. Pablo says:

Hush, Ernst. You’ll just confuse the proles with all your incomprehensible wonky gun talk. Let’s just focus on the machine assault pistol at fault here.

  17. charles w says:

Good thing he didn’t have salt or a Big Gulp or there would have been real trouble.

  18. leigh says:

They never mentioned what the police were packing. Could have been revolvers—newsies think those are way safer since you can’t quickly reload and shoot them. Oh, wait! Yes you can. They have this thing called a speed-loader.

But it doesn’t matter. Armed cops = good. Armed citizens = doubleplus ungood.

  19. McGehee says:

There should be a law against killing people.

Well, why the heck hasn’t anybody done something about this??

  20. palaeomerus says:

Some of those revolvers are double action though! They allow the shooter to perform twice as many actions as a single action revolver. Why… they probably fire twice as fast!

  21. leigh says:

So much for the training that police officers do, eh?

I hate being around cops at the range. They are the most careless shooters I’ve been around.

  22. Swen says:

Johnson died. Nine bystanders were wounded, likely hit by police officers’ stray gunfire.

Seems like just a few days ago the argument was ‘thank god no one in that theater in Aurora had a gun and tried to shoot back! Innocent bystanders might have been hurt!!’

  23. sdferr says:

The 8:00 NHC look-in on Isaac wasn’t too encouraging. The damned thing has practically stopped in its track, gained organization and windspeed, plus continues the newer trend today of drifting slightly to the east.

    Do not like.

  24. sdferr says:

    Like even less.

The 11:00 NHC report has windspeed up to 70, probable centerline of the cone shifted still further east. The ground speed has picked up back to about where it was this morning, so less idle time on hot water is to the good. But on the whole, the bugger is breaking bad.

  25. leigh says:

That’s no good sdferr. Better haul the patio furniture in and get the drill charged for hanging your plywood if need be.

  26. sdferr says:

I doubt I’ll button up until there’s some indication we’ll actually have a hurricane topping cat 1 into 2 or worse, with some serious approach this way in addition. TropStorms and TropStorm winds at the edges of weak hurricanes don’t make the cut.

  27. leigh says:

I hope you don’t have to. We had straight line here a week ago and it splintered two of our trees, including furthering a split in a hundred year old oak. The tree guys took all day to take it down today.

I’ll remember it fondly as it warms my feet next winter.

  28. leigh says:

    That’s quite lovely, sdferr. Thanks.

    Storm looks like it’s a-brewin’.
