The Hollywood Left, from George Clooney to Sarah Jessica Parker, who have become Obama’s WestLeftcoast ATM love canoodling with Barry and Michelle. They will tell you they are totally down with social justice — like Sean Penn pimping for Hugo Chavez.
Yet, even as Hollywood is in California, a state with one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation and over a third of the nation’s welfare recipients — The Hollywood Left has decided to ship its jobs out of state
The five broadcast television networks will be rolling out 23 new one-hour dramas for the upcoming season. That would normally be good business for Hollywood’s hometown industry — with bookings for soundstages and plenty of work for the costumers, camera operators and caterers needed to put a show on the air.
But not this year. Just two of the 23 new fall and midseason shows will be shot in Los Angeles County, as cost-conscious producers seek tax-friendly production havens in New York, North Carolina, Georgia and other states.
The exodus has been going on for years, especially in feature film production. But television dramas such as”CSI,””Criminal Minds”and”Desperate Housewives”have long been anchors of Los Angeles’ entertainment economy, helping to offset the decade-long slide in moviemaking. One 22-episode-a-year network series has a budget of $60 million and generates 840 direct and indirect jobs, according to the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp.
That economic bang is beginning to fizzle. Fewer than 10% of new network dramas this season are based in Los Angeles, down from 50% in 2010 and nearly 80% in 2005.
What happened to “share the load” and “spread the wealth” and “I’m so rich, I’d be happy to have Obama raise my taxes”?
The Hollywood Left raises millions to re-elect Obama while looking at their own bottom line and shipping jobs out of already struggling California.
Some solidarity there, comrades.
Prager — who’s not nearly as wrong as Bennett routinely is — was on about this yesterday.
JH
out of curiousity, where do you find Prager wrong? (I’m reading his latest book … Still the Best Hope and he nails the Left’s anti-intellectualism to a T)
Darleen, as dire as things have become, every single classically liberal point has to be hammered home daily. Prager is guilty of missing a good third of them so his errors are by omission, not commission.
(Bennett, on the other hand, is running a 24/7 Republican rally and I doubt the words classically liberal have crossed his lips. His recent theme is that Ryan is proved by assertion, that being that like he, all the lovely folks calling in have already found the man’s sheer authenticity sufficient vetting for the office of VP for the severely conservative post-Obama era.
Right.)
Too many talkers are making Ryan 2012’s version of the left’s 2008 Obama. Projection. Meanwhile Romney has become Ryan’s vehicle, much as McCain was Palin’s.
Like Bennett, Prager needs to get behind how things really work. I’ll stop correcting my car radio in the morning when Prager et al start sounding a lot more like Levin and Savage.
