addendum

On this, the day of delicious, non-sexualized chicken sandwiches cooked to juicy perfection, Glenn Reynolds sums up the left’s ginned up Chick-fil-a “controversy” quite nicely.

To which I’ll add but one further observation:  Rahm Emanuel worked for Barack Obama when Barack Obama’s stated views on same sex marriage matched precisely those of Mr Cathy.

And yet we heard nary a peep about the President’s values not comporting with the politically correct values the left is now demanding — as a function of government-approved speech — that all of us wishing to do business must assume.  Or else.

— Which suggests to me that either Emanuel knew back then that Obama was being disingenuous before his conveniently-timed “evolution,” or else Emanuel himself was a one-time bigot just like Obama, whose values didn’t match that of the city that created him politically.

Funny, that.

But then, predictable.

We see similar logic in Romney’s “dangerous” support of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, despite Obama’s repeated statements to the same effect. Romney is “dangerous” because the media and the Left (but I repeat myself) don’t think he will “evolve” the way they expect Obama to do has already done but won’t admit publicly until after the election.

I’m perfectly willing to extend this past Rahm to everyone who voted for Obama, America’s first black, homophobic President.

  4. There is a Chik-fil-A right near my suburban Chicago work location. I think I will stop by there tomorrow and get some tasty chikin, and raise my sandwich high and bellow “up yours, Rahm!” before I take a bite of freedom.

God, everytime I think something cannot make me cringe harder for being from Illinois…

For the left, it’s always Sarah Palin, the Tea Party, the Kochs. It doesn’t matter who the bogeyman is, but it’s essential that there be a bogeyman in order to ensure solidarity.

    This.

BTW … pictures are being posted on Twitter of lines of cars/people waiting to get into Chick-Fil-A

That plus Cruz last night? Woohoo.

Interesting to note that famed lefty “queer” Gore Vidal wakes up dead on Chik-fil-et appreciation day.

Maybe our cities could combine this trendy prohibition of doubleplus-ungoodthink businesses with the previous trend of college campuses during the don’t-ask-don’t-tell days, and just prohibit any federal programs, offices, and employees from their cities.

Similarly, every business with beliefs opposite or orthogonal to the City Hall trend of the day can ban City employees from their business. “You’ve said people like me have no place in Metropolis, so obviously this property is not part of Metropolis any more. Your health inspectors and tax collectors have no authority here!”

Seriously — if the rule of law is going to be a la carte going forward, there’s no reason we should let the Mayors have all the fun.

serr8d, the first thing I thought when I heard ole Gore had shuffled off this mortal coil was “Finally!”

Someone needs to link that vid of him and Buckley going at it on Dick Cavett’s show.

    “Crypto-Nazi!”

    “Fag!”

  9. sdferr says:

Somehow my memory has it a bit different from Cavett leigh. I happened to see the thing live, and it seems to me it took place during the ’68 Democrat political convention tv coverage, for which Buckley and Vidal were acting as commentators.

  10. leigh says:

    You’re right sdferr:

The witty, acerbic, gay Gore found a powerful foil in the witty, acerbic, very-not-gay William F. Buckley, the conservative movement founder. In 1968, the two men were asked by ABC News to serve as analysts for the Republican and Democratic conventions. In a year in which conventions were contentious, Vidal and Buckley created fireworks of their own, most famously in the clip above (which is probably NSFW without headphones). During a discussion of the Vietnam War, Buckley — in his aristocratic drawl — compares opponents of the war (including Vidal) to Nazi appeasers. Vidal, in his own aristocratic drawl, fires back.

Vidal: The only pro- or crypto-Nazi I can think of is yourself…
Buckley: Now listen you queer, quit calling me a crypto-Nazi or I’ll sock you in the goddamn face and you’ll stay plastered.

    It’s in today The Atlantic.

As of noon today, the Longmont, Colorado Chick-fil-a had 37 cars in the drive thru and the line was literally out the door.

Nearest place to me is an hour and a half drive but if they’re going to start calling in bomb threats then I might need to order some gift certificates online and mail them to some random Catholic charity.

  14. bh says:

… which they don’t sell online apparently.

  15. Darleen says:

Update — needed to run to grocery at lunch, twins in tow (watching them today) and it’s near the stand-alone Chick-Fil-A I plan on buying dinner at …

I counted 38 cars on the drive through, inside was standing room only and the line wound out the door and about 60 down the parking lot

Hope there’s some chicken left in a few hours!!

Same here and probably the same places just from a different direction.

Why assume that either man has any values whatever other than “what’s in it for me?” When it furthered their political ambitions they were opposed to same sex marriage. Now it furthers their ambitions to be for it. In their heart of hearts.. Well, sociopaths don’t really have hearts, do they?

  23. leigh says:

Well, sociopaths don’t really have hearts, do they?

They only have a heart for themselves, Swen. So, yes they are all about the expediency.
