credentialed sexual predators vs. students

Guess which side the Teachers’ Unions have been backing.

We are so over.

Well, they are a pretty significant chunk of their dues-paying membership. Things are tough all over.

  2. leigh says:

Pervy teachers abound everywhere. There’s a guy in the LA School District who finally got caught, I think last year, who had been molesting kids and photographing them in his classroom for 20+ years. There were several teachers involved and a principal or asst. principal.

    Darleen probably knows.

  3. George Orwell says:

Yeah, that was here in LA. The dude was serving kids cookies with his spunk as dressing. I kid you not.

  4. leigh says:

I knew all that and couldn’t bring myself to type it. *shudder*

  5. William says:

I think we’ve made the transition from “Won’t someone think of the children?” to “Won’t someone shut these kids up?” quite well.

… Really America? Arresting six year olds while letting teachers come on to 13 year olds? Ugh.

  6. Ernst Schreiber says:

Meh. It’s only newsworthy if there’s a priest or a nun involved.

I’m not even sure teacher at a parochial school is newsworthy, except maybe if it’s a card carrying Opus Dei teacher.

  7. Crawford says:

Hey, that six year old was carrying a gun-shaped chicken nugget. Kid was lucky the cops showed restraint and only arrested him.

  8. leigh says:

Our only claim to fame here was the embezzling drunken cheerleading coach a few years back. She’d show up tanked at the football games, got a DUI and no did anything until the checks started bouncing.

  9. BigBangHunter says:

    – The new norm: Death by chicken McNugget?

    – The Left has turned the country into the Nporth American version of Sodom and Ghamorra, so wheres the surprise?

    – If the Unions want so badly to protect their scandlessly excessive payscales and retirement funds steadily bankrupting city after city, then maybe they sould be made a defending party in some of these cases. Maybe a few 25 million dollar hits and their zeal would be tempered a bit.

  10. Crawford says:

BBH — it does seem that the union — and the “arbitrator” — contributed to any cases of abuse by the freaks turned loose on the kids. The liability seems as solid as any the Catholic Church hierarchy faced.

My own instinct is that the lot of them should be swinging from an overpass with an appropriate banner, but I suspect bankrupting them quicker than they’re bankrupting themselves will get the message to them more effectively.

This is one of the reasons I’ve avoided the stampede to blame Joe Paterno (who is conveniently unable to defend himself) for how he handled the allegations at Penn State. The worst thing I can see him being guilty of is waiting a day (until Monday morning) to tell his immediate superior (the AD) and the University VP in charge of the campus police department about what he had heard on Sunday. Unless you think there’s a risk of evidence being destroyed by that delay, I don’t see how it rises to the hysterical level of condemnation that we’ve seen.

The Freeh report says he was wrong for having allowed Sandusky to leave the program honorably rather than as an alleged pedophile after the internally investigation of the prior allegation officially turned up no wrongdoing, and the police dept. refused to mount any further investigation.

Administrators in such a situation are damned if they do; damned if they don’t: Had JoPa made any public stink about those prior allegations, he and the university would have been sued for their trouble, and the union would almost certainly have backed the worker reflexively. After all, Management is always wrong, and Labor is always right.

  12. BigBangHunter says:

    – Public hysteria + sensationalist media + raw boned CYA on both sides + Gestappo like attitudes toward parents + lawyers = ongoing chaos

    – Where are the childrens interests in that formula?

I’m not in LA County (thank you, Jesus) but some of the stuff that passes through our office runs from banal to “is there a convenient wall I can bang my head on?”

What I’ve noticed (and rarely gets covered) is how many more female teachers are getting nabbed for banging the kiddies – both male & female.

That female PE teacher, who never was seen wearing anything but her track suit and cut her own hair, you wondered about in jr high? Yep.

  14. BigBangHunter says:

    – The thing that is truly amazing is the “shock and awe” whenever this happens, that a pedophile is intersested in any vocation that gives them unfettered access to kindle.

    – Of course it makes perfect sense that they would naturally gravitate to a job cleaning renal bags in a geriatric ward.

    – Maybe its just me, the bitter clinger that I am being unfairly critical and judgemental, and probably xenophobic as well.

    – Oh and raaaaacist.

  15. Danger says:

    Monster,

The delay in reporting isn’t what bothers me.

Didn’t Paterno have any say about Sandusky continuing to use Penn State facillities for his charity? Usually head football coaches at large Universities have a lot of pull.

I don’t understand how Penn state could see putting kids at risk was a “humane” thing to do. If they severed ties with him perhaps they would have a leg to stand on.

  16. leigh says:

    Thanks, Darleen.

I knew you didn’t live in LA County, but I couldn’t remember if you worked there. And I had that same gym teacher, only it was high school I figured something was weird with her when she started handing out the towels after showers instead of letting us get them before. Yeesh.

  17. The Monster says:

    @Danger,

Hindsight is 20/20. Remember that the use of the university facilities was after the first investigation came up “no wrongdoing”. If you deny access like that, you have to explain why. It’s a minefield, and no matter what you do you’ll be second-guessed for it.

Clean this mess up else we’ll all end up in jail
Those test tubes and the scale
Just get them all out of here
Is there gas in the car
Yes, there’s gas in the car
I think the people down the hall
    Know who you are

    Careful what you carry
    ‘Cause the man is wise
You are still an outlaw in their eyes

Now we know why the districts have been so gung-ho about zero-tolerance weapons policies: can’t have the little darlings fighting back now, can we?
