“Fox: No Body Armor for Aurora Theater Shooter”

Wait, you mean the mainstream press got it wrong — and their misreporting accidentally fueled the very natural concern of caring government officials who, ordinarily, would never have tried to take away our access to weaponry more powerful than a pocket .22?

Well knock me over with a Chuck Schumer pastrami fart.

  1. I’ve been making sure that all of my kids know how to safely use and store a firearm. Started with bbs and a pellet gun, at 11 they get the .22 and shotgun at scout camp, at 16 the NRA handgun course.

I wish someone had done that for me.

  2. Car in says:

Well, even though he didn’t have body armor on, an armed theater goer could have caused friendly fire deaths.

    amiright?

  3. sdferr says:

“. . . an armed theater goer could have caused friendly fire deaths. ”

    Oh, thousands, certainly.

  4. Crawford says:

Regardless, body armor doesn’t make you immune to bullets. Only script writers do that.

Fer crissake, we spent time on the Mozambique drill in the NRA ‘intro to pistols’ class.

  5. leigh says:

Is there any reporting about this incident, other than the body count, that is accurate?

  6. sdferr says:

There’s no reason this mass murder would be any different in regard to ubiquitous misreporting of fact leigh. As per usual, we’ll have to wait a year or two for a careful book to sort out the plain facts, and in consequence, the lies which have already taken hold.

  7. leigh says:

True sdferr. I was listening to a reporterette talking about Holmes court appearance and she made at least three inaccurate statements in a 2 minute report.

  8. cranky-d says:

I often note inaccuracies spread by reporters when they are talking about something related to my fields of knowledge. My conclusion is that when they are talking about things I don’t know about, they are making errors then as well.

  9. leigh says:

That’s my conclusion, as well cranky.

As opposed to all those people being gunned down by the unfriendly guy, you mean? Yeah.

    Morons.

  11. motionview says:

Pablo spent quite a bit of time on Twitter trying to educate the masses on these complicated gunny issues. I contributed the general MBM rule: if it is larger than a crusty baguette it is an assault rifle.

Only three? That’s actually pretty good.

Yeah, I know, low bar and all that…

  13. leigh says:

Heh. I wasn’t giving it my full attention, so maybe more.

  14. “Well knock me over with a Chuck Schumer pastrami fart.”

That is one weapon I wouldn’t mind controlling.

Libs love investigating that narrative. For teh irony.

This past weekend I was at a food truck party in Dana Point, relatively affluent surf community, and noticed all, all, of the tween boys had these. We’re buying our children the rope the Progs will bind them with.

  18. leigh says:

Man, those are fugly, mv. My kid would call them gay.

  19. motionview says:

The ones I saw were clearly OWS inspired face designs, with mesh covering the eyes but they could still see out. Really perfect for flash mobbing, occupying Chik-Fil-A, etc.

  20. cranky-d says:

Those hoodies are eventually going to be implicated in shootings. Some emboldened jackass will make the wrong move and think because he’s “anonymous” he’s safe.

I’m starting to warm up to the idea of having a gun for fun. Just because I can. But then I realize that I am a spaz, and most of my toys have hurt me, the whole thing seems a bad idea. And yet, it would be so cool to be in a public place, sitting in a theater, a restaurant, or whatever, and be packing heat. Packing heat. That’s a phrase I learned from a woman in Louisiana who ran a Quality Inn of Shreveport, right on the edge of town out there, it was a long drive, who kept a big ass gun in her purse. Her husband had rifles too. Plus, I just now remembered this, her son and I lost a gun in the bayou behind their house. At the end of their property. The bayou looks slow but it’s actually deep and faster moving than it appears to be. It’s an optical illusion. A branch overturned our little boat, Gary’s a big fat morbidly obese guy, fattest guy in school, and the gun was lost. I don’t even know why we had the gun. It was Gary’s idea. Once again, I was just observer to the mayhem, innocent bystander, sucked into the situation by forces beyond my control, decisions made by others, I wasn’t even holding the gun. But there you go. Spaz.

  22. LBascom says:

Figures. In Muslim countries they force their women to wear a burqa, in metrosexual America, the boys wear it voluntarily…

  23. bh says:

This anecdote calls for a pop-up book!

But then I realize that I am a spaz, and most of my toys have hurt me, the whole thing seems a bad idea.

Well, you must weld a weapon with confidence if you’re going to weld one at all. Otherwise it’ll likely get taken away from you and stuffed up your bum. I’d advise you to go with your instincts.

  25. cranky-d says:

If I knew how to weld, I hope could do so with confidence.

  26. cranky-d says:

I hope I could, not I hope could.

That was the grammar gods exerting their karmic influence on my pedantry.

  27. LBascom says:

    i i

There ya go cranky, hope you feel better. ;-)

Did any of them have dazzle patterns?

  29. newrouter says:

    hope could.

    that’s a nice weld

  30. motionview says:

Some of them were a little dazzley. After I put down my carnitas french fries and lamb sandwich, licked my fingers, and asked the boys if I could take pictures of them, their parents pulled them away from me for some reason.

  31. palaeomerus says:

Somebody needs to get fired for this.

  32. sdferr says:

That Tuesday one was a hottie there for awhile. Then not so much.

  33. palaeomerus says:

If there was no body armor then the guy who reported that there was is either a lazy ignorant boob who mistook a vest with pouches for armor, or he is a manipulative fucking liar reporting on what he thinks will fire the viewers imagination .

Either way, they need to be fired for it.

  34. LBascom says:

I remember only hours after the news broke they had the Aurora Cheif of Police giving an interview, and he said flame boy was wearing full body Armour including a crotch guard and neck protection.

    Somethings fishy…

  35. Jeff G. says:

Nothing fishy, Lee. He was wearing tac gear. Chief may have said he was wearing full-body protection or some such, or maybe he hadn’t gotten all the particulars.

  36. LBascom says:

I don’t know Jeff. He was pretty specific, and cops wear body armor, a high percentage are vets, they should be able to recognize it.

I’m thinking he was wearing it, and the feds are reluctant to let the particulars of how he got it be made known.

Of course, I’m a well known tinfoil hat wearer…

  37. sdferr says:

All in all isn’t it easier to think the Chief at the top of the heap was misinformed? I mean, that’s usually the case anyhow: just look at Obama. Dude doesn’t have a clue what’s what.

  38. leigh says:

The Chief is a former NYPD guy. Even if he never wore body armor or was in the service, he’s no doubt seen the SWAT or bomb squad guys suited up. We’ve only seen the guy in jail clothes, so who knows?

  39. LBascom says:

isn’t it easier to think the Chief at the top of the heap was misinformed?

OK. Think he’d be more circumspect if he wasn’t sure though.

  40. sdferr says:

I don’t think they’ve taught circumspection in the schools for over a century. Not that that is any decent excuse. Just an observation.

  41. leigh says:

Rush to judgement? God knows almost all of the other information about this case has been wrong.

  42. Squid says:

I’m surprised they haven’t identified George Zimmerman as an accomplice.

  43. palaeomerus says:

Nothing has really changed since Richard Jewell has it…

  44. leigh says:

That’s funny, pala. I was just thinking about Richard Jewell the other day.
