Exactly. The left’s Screwtape Letters constitute proof of their functional evil. Progressive leftism is a dysfunction and must be treated as such, especially when the patient becomes virulent and violent. It is not a valid world view or ideology. It is disorder given a formal identity and strangely, a co-equal place in society.
That the Left is evil is obvious. But human beings believe what they want to believe.
From B Moe above, that Evan Sayet address at Heritage is a real eye-opener. The sort of analysis that explains how self-contradictory behavior emerges from a single principle. Particulary interesting is how he explains the liberal moral imperative against any discrimination and any single moral code (multiculti!) inevitably produces constant discrimination and something that is in fact indistinguishable from a single, universal morality of failure.
George, Insty posted a link to a lecture on Marx a couple of days ago, which also pins down the origin of the contradiction, and the terrible consequences of it.
The left is nothing but contradictions, one of my favorite bar games is pointing them out to friends.
The other day a youngster was explaining how there is no difference between blacks and white, if whites scored better on tests the tests were obviously biased. I asked how the test could be biased if there was no difference.

No giving this President any dog whistles. He’ll use it as a goddamn hunting tool.

I don’t mean to be disagreeably picky B Moe, but I’m not at all sure that the left has even understood the underlying meaning of the DogEatingMan stories — not, at least, to the extent that they’d feel it necessary to modify their language or rhetoric to avoid a harm.
That is, they don’t, in the main, even perceive the potential for harm to Obama in the stories, so ready are they to dismiss the ridicule as “childish” or utterly lacking in substantive content. They just don’t get it. Which in its own way, makes a kind of sense. After all, they put the man into office and agree with his every precept. Far be it from them to grasp the meaning of the ridicule as fingering Obama as entirely alien to America.
They like to think he IS America.
