Barbara Boxer (D-CA), on the floor of the US Senate, January 6, 2005

Boxer:  “…the centerpiece of this country is democracy and the centerpiece of democracy is ensuring the right to vote.  Our people are dying all over the world to bring democracy to the far corners of the world. Let’s fix it here.

“And besides, a bunch of us think George W. Bush is a real poopie head.  And I owe it to the people of my state to fight poopie headedness wherever and whenever it threatens to turn this great country into, y’know, a big poopie patch.”*

*slightly paraphrased.

  1. shank says:

Man, those senators have it made.  They get paid (and can decide on their own raises mind you) decently, they get kickbacks, they get the cushy government job, and then when some of them go to work it seems their entire focus is to gum up the works.  I mean, I could do that for about half the salary (as long as I got the kickbacks) and be twice as good at it.  Maybe I should run in the next election.  Hell, if Jesse Ventura, Arnie, and that freak of a homophobe out in Oklahoma can get elected, then I got a decent shot.  Just need to find me some constituents…

  2. basil says:

I once had constituents, but I saw the doctor and he gave me a salve.

  3. Doug F says:

Constituency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

  4. capitano says:

Minnesota Sen. Mark Dayton: “When you are as wacko as I am, it makes you feel grateful when someone comes along to make you look sane.  Thank you, Barbara Boxer. I’m a grateful man.”

  5. Stiv says:

I think she went on to say that, if they had just let the Democrats keep recounting the votes like they did in the Washington governor’s race, democracy would have ultimately triumphed.

  6. MC says:

Hey, we’ve been getting this crap in WA state every day since November 2nd – up until exactly the day last week when they ‘found’ enough ballots to get the Dem a plurality – then nada.

Thank God the 118,000 vote mountain in Ohio is too tall for even the liberals to climb.

Yes, I’m obsessed. Can you tell? If I couldn’t let my hair down at PW, even I would think I was certifiable.

  7. Darleen says:

Yeah, I know what you mean—“paraphrased”—Barbie Boxer rarely speaks that coherently.

  8. Jay says:

This woman is one of the reasons I moved out of California.  For people outside of the “Golden State”, rest assured that no matter how stupid you think your local politians are, the ones in CA are stupider.

This may not seem possible, but it is true.

With the exception of Ahnold, every one of them is doing their utmost to bankrupt the state and make it fall into the ocean.

  9. Jay says:

And, for a California politician to criticize voting irregularities is unbelievable.  In California, it is illegal for a poll worker to ask a voter for proof of identification of any sort.

Of 153 US House and state assembly seats, none of them changed hands in the 2004 election.  None.  Zero.

I’m glad to be out of there.

  10. jmflynny says:

Well, unlike Maxine Waters, at least she didn’t make a dedication to Michael Moore.

  11. kyle says:

MC makes a good point.  The lefties are concerned about ‘saving’ democracy only up to the point where the votes have been ‘saved’ in their favor.  At which point, obviously, the correct total was reached.

Yay for America!  Yay for Democrazy!  Yay for Barbie Boxer!

  12. Losing Faith says:

Wow, you’re all deluded. Have any of you done ANY sort of research into Ohio and Washington? There’s NO comparison. Washington was a matter of playing skewed numbers. Even the bloggers from the left stopped trying to use that as a basis of evidence of fraud a LONG time ago (seems like a long time anyway, even though it was only a couple months). There were WAY more instances of THAT in Ohio, New Mexico, and FLORIDA AGAIN this year that all went Bushie’s way. There’s SO much more evidence in Ohio than you’re willing to even look at.

  13. David R. Block says:

We know in many precincts in Washington state that the number of Votes exceeded the number of registered voters.

And there’s more evidence of that in Ohio?? Bullshit. The MSM would be screaming louder than anyone could imagine.

  14. Losing Faith says:

Uhhhh, WRONG. The MSM has failed EVERYBODY for the most part. And yes there were plenty of occurances of “more votes than voters” in Ohio. You just saying bullshit and closing your eyes doesn’t change a thing. Still it’s a weak attempt for evidence. It’s too easy to use old voter rolls, which has been shown to be the case of the Repubs in Washington.

  15. Losing Faith says:

“when they ‘found’ enough ballots to get the Dem a plurality”

Oh yeah, wanted to comment on this and forgot. Gregoire won before those other ballots were allowed. She was up by 10.

  16. Jeff Goldstein says:

Sure. The MSM let us all down.  As did Kerry’s lawyers.  Both part of the conservative conspiracy.

Oh, and all those bi-partisan county elections boards that certify votes?  Part of the same conservative conspiracy.

O-H-I-O.  Just a few simple letters away from MASON.

    Coincidence?  Pshaw.

  17. Losing Faith says:

Sarcasm is generally pretty hard to read from type, but I’m taking all of that as sarcasm directed at me. That you’re trying to make me out to be some kind of conspiracy theorist. How is it that I’m being a tin-foil hatter for pointing out the similarities between Washington and Ohio? Your attempt to dismiss my argument is weak. It’s a misdirection “Oh don’t listen to that guy, he’s crazy”. Although I’ve said nothing crazy.

  18. SPQR says:

Sarcasm?  Sheesh, boy, look up the word “ridicule”.

  19. dorkafork says:

ALL CAPS are SO CONVINCING.  And Jeff, you need to take reports of voting irregularities like long lines, and computer problems, and long lines, and… did I mention long lines?  Rove’s a freakin’ genius with the long lines.  (Hitler used long lines, too.)

  20. Beck says:

Dude, don’t fuck around when it comes to the Freemasons.  Those guys know where you live, and they know what you had for lunch.  They know how to do an IP trace too, and their penises are very large.

  21. Losing Faith says:

Wow, you assholes just don’t want to have an honest debate. My bad, I thought there was some intelligence around here. Obviously not. I won’t disturb you morons from your slumber again. Have fun in hell.

  22. losing faith, do you not realize that their are ‘voting irregularties” in every single national election? If there were some sort of intent of fraud on the side of Republicans I would be the first to yell about it. I want our party to not only be right on the issues, but fair in every respect. If I thought for one second there was more than the usual mishaps in votng I would be protesting beside you. But the truth is that is just a way for the dems to look like they “care.” A regular dog and pony show. And if you can’t see that, then I feel sorry for you.

Just like the dog and pony show that went on at the Gonzales hearings today.

  23. Jeff Goldstein says:

A few notes before I tell you to fuck off, Losing Faith.

What’s to debate?  You start off by calling people delusional (your first comment) and end by calling them assholes (your last). In between, you offer no evidence, but you demand others prove a negative.

Kerry has more to gain from fighting over Ohio than does Keith Olbermann.  But Kerry conceded. End of story.

    Now, then.

    Fuck off.

  24. jmflynny says:

    I ‘heart’ you Jeff!

  25. Debate, boy?  You don’t know the meaning of that word anymore than you know the meaning of the word “sarcasm”.

  26. jeff says:

But what a treasure trove of material is Babs! You’re just jealous you don’t have one in CO. How bout I send you Barbara Lee, she’s even better.

  27. Big Al says:

Greetings from the great state of Ohio.  The swingin’est of all swing states.  I offer the proof that seemed so elusive to Losing Faith, and now that he’s signed off, I have no fear of literary reprisals that will have me crying myself to sleep for the next week or so.

There were irregularities aplenty in OH and one only needs to step over the Michigan border into the port city of Toledo to find the DNC worker who paid some ambitious volunteer in crack cocaine to register Peter Fitzwell, Haywood Jablomey, Phillip McCrevis, Richard Scratcher and a host of other celebrities who were not already registered as Buckeye voters.

Why was this poor boy paid with unprocessed narcotics instead of cash?  Sounds like some financial shenannigans by the GOP.

  28. So Jeff, which part was slightly paraphrased?

  29. Dave says:

The part where she sounded like someone older than 4 years old, of course.

  30. MC says:

Well I’ve been plowing through the King County database for the last few hours and missed most of this …

We have a letter now from the head of KC elections (Dean Logan) that says in part: “the number of votes cast and the number of voters credited with voting does not typically balance” – this is because we WA bloggers (led by ‘Shark’ Sharkansky at Sound Politics) pointed out that we got 3,539 more votes than we have voters just in King Counrt (8,400 overall in the large counties) – and they can’t clean up the database to make the number even close.

WA state law says – RCW 29A.08.125 (that’s the statute number):

The computer file [of voter records] must include, but not be limited to, each voter’s last name, first name, middle initial, date of birth, residence address, gender, date of registration, applicable taxing district and precinct codes, and the last date on which the individual voted. The county auditor shall subsequently record each consecutive date upon which the individual has voted and retain at least the last five such consecutive dates.

It isn’t going to happen. At least they can’t manufacture actual people (they don’t have enough nanobots I guess).

In the meantime we have found direct evidence – too many links to reference – you can find all this on my site and Shark’s site – of multiple voters, forged signatures, felons voting, registered sex offender felons voting (isnt’ that especially nice?), dead people voting, women who have had a maiden name changed to a married name that have found that both their maiden name and married name ‘voted’ when they cast only one ballot, voters who voted an absentee ballot that have no record of being in the voter file, provisional ballots literally ‘stuffed’ in ballot boxes, ‘blank’ ballots being counted for the Dem candidate by the 2-1 Dem Canvassing Board, and a local television station expose done in 1998 (kindly linked by Jeff yesterday) that resulted in all kinds of promises of reforms by the city council and the elections office – that there is no evidence were ever pursued in the last 6 years. That 1998 investigation – by a third party consulting firm – turned up 1000’s of illegal votes and 5,200 voters in King County who were registered at least twice.

Oh, and when Gregoire was ‘up’ by 10 – that’s because the 2-1 Dem Canvassing Board was counting ‘down’ the Rossi vote by taking already counted Rossi votes and eliminating them during the hand recount.

So, ‘Losing Faith’ – shove this evidence in your piehole. And if you really want some honest debate, bring it on. We’ve spent hundreds of hours – written tons of perl/c#, captured hours of video, purchased voter data from counties across our state, collaborated with campaign people, businesses, and some news media – we know what we are talking about and can back it up. You got anything other that words?

(Jeff – I apologize for the long comment.)

  31. Jeff Goldstein says:

    Don’t mind one bit.

  32. McGehee says:

Peter Fitzwell, Haywood Jablomey, Phillip McCrevis, Richard Scratcher

LOL! I’d heard about good ol’ Heywood, but Mr. McCrevis must have failed to make it into most of the LSM reports on that story. Probably because the idiot LSM journos mistakenly pronounced his last name to rhyme with Beavis.

  33. Beck says:

Fortunately, Ivan Jackinov is a known die-hard Green voter, so we can go ahead and toss his vote.

  34. Sean M. says:

What I’m dying to know is whether or not Gerald Fitzpatrick and Patrick Fitzgerald were disenfranchised.  Andrew Sullivan’s dying to know, too.

    (I apologize for that gob-smackingly vile comment–don’t know what I was thinking…)

  35. Clint says:

Losing Faith, You say “before those ballots were allowed”, gregoire was already up by 10… not true.  The facts are: after the first count, Rossi was 261 votes ahead.  Then over 1000 “Magical Mystery Ballots” were found in King county before the automatic machine recount.  These reduced Rossi’s lead to 42 votes. Then another 573 more votes were “found” right before the less accurate hand recount, and allowed when the WA Supreme Court changed the rules in midstream, giving gregoire a 10 vote lead… since this was still too close for their comfort, another 150, and then another 22 votes were manufactured… oops, I mean found, which finally gave gregoire an alleged 129 vote lead.  These were all found in strongly democrat King county.  When Rossi was ahead by 261, gregoire called the race a “tie”, but now that she’s ahead by only 129,with a bunch of “highly questionable” votes, she claims victory, that the will of the people has finally been represented, and that the system works.

If after all of this, you still think gregoire is the legitimate governor of WA, you need to send me some of what you’ve been smoking.  It must be incredible.  cb

  36. I caught some of the “debate” on the radio yesterday afternoon.  Democrat after Democrat stood up and said that (a) They accepted that GWB was fairly elected, and (b) the voting process needed reform.

It was a complete play to the Michael Moore wing of the Democrat party.  The wing that will only accept an election if the Democrat wins.  The Democrats are convinced they need these people in order to win elections.  However, the more they pander to this base, the more the rest of the country will turn from the Democrat party, revolted by its hate-America-first instincts.

I work with a guy whose a Michael Moore fan.  For him, everything is a reason to criticise America.  For him, our tsunami relief is too stingy and slow; Americans are too fat and consume too much of the earth’s resources; Republicans are utterly corrupt by definition; etc.  He’s 24, so I’ve hope he’ll mellow out, but right now he’s a real pain in the ass and his attitude has made me reflexively anti-Democrat.  I mean, I’ll vote for a yellow dog rather than a Democrat.

  37. kyle says:

Thank you, Clint, for elucidating the point that I mentioned but was far too lazy to flesh out.  The leftoids love to seek Justice and Truth in elections, up to the point where they are ahead.

Which makes sense, ‘cause, you just KNOW that a 129-vote lead for the Democrat is obviously far more Accurate and Fair than any 261-vote lead for a Republican could ever be.

  38. Lyndsey says:

I think someone forgot to mention the absentee military ballots that were thrown out because they were “late.” Wouldn’t want to risk taking a look at those….

What a wonderful, satisfying victory for Gregoire. Even though Rossi won twice. Politicians everywhere rejoice. The democratic process can be defeated by sheer will and willing volunteers.

  39. julia says:

    Ok…honest question here:

How do y’all feel about paper receipts being required for voting machines?

I’ve heard litanies of complaints from both Democrats and Republicans about fraud/vote counting/polling irregularities etc.  There are always people who want to win for thier side more than they want a fair election.

So shouldn’t this lead to everyone agreeing that we need to come up with a national, standardized

format for national elections?  So that everyone, in every state, starts off on the same page?

  40. Losing Faith says:

    Me: “Wow, you’re all deluded”

Deluded – to mislead the mind or judgment of : DECEIVE, TRICK

David R. Block: “We know in many precincts in Washington state that the number of Votes exceeded the number of registered voters.”

    discrepencies.

“Q. But weren’t some votes already added during the recounts in counties other than King?

    A. Yes, some additional votes were found in other counties during the two recounts, and before the Republicans called for a more concentrated

effort to look for uncounted ballots statewide.

Nick Handy, state elections director, provided the following numbers:

Snohomish County—224 ballots, located in a mail tray buried in the middle of a large stack of empty mail trays.

Kittitas County—34 ballots, located during the first (machine) recount after they were mistakenly set aside.

Whatcom County—seven ballots, which were provisional ballots inadvertently placed in a stack of empty envelopes.

Chelan County—one ballot, which had been incorrectly disqualified as a duplicate.

Pierce County—one ballot, which had been lodged in the bottom of a voting machine during the manual recount.”

Are these all Fraud too?? Even in the heavily Rethuglican areas?? No more so than:

statistical analysis conducted by University of California, Berkeley graduate students and a professor, who released a study on Thursday.”

    http://ucdata.berkeley.edu/new_web/VOTE2004/index.html

So Deluded was not an insult, but a fact. You don’t KNOW, but Obviously you’ve deluded yourself into thinking that those vote discrepencies

in Washington are any more valid, important or significant than Ohio or Florida.

Rightwingsparkle: “do you not realize that their are ‘voting irregularties” in every single national election?”

Yes I do and that was the point I was making then and I’m making now. Argue with your own constituents about it here on this board. I

completely agree when it relates to these types of evidence specifically. Not exclusively and it doesn’t apply wholly. The other issues in

ohio are NOT normal or acceptable. We need election reform everywhere in this nation, includin Washington. That’s the Point Sen. Boxer et.

    al. were making.

So fuck YOU, it DID happen in Ohio AND Florida this year in a more extreme way. Sorry if EMPASHIS upSETS U!! So, let’s kill that evidence

right there. Now if you want an actual breakdown of laws that piece o’ shite SOS Kathy Blackwell broke, take at look at the 102 page document

    Rep. Conyers compiled.

    http://www.bluelemur.com/index.php?p=529

How fuckin dare you think the fucking ridiculous miniscule shit in Washington compares at all to what happened in Ohio. The pattern is

undeniable.  Your Good Ol Party is just that. A bunch of good old boy biggots. How the FUCK can you support this shit?

  41. Jeff Goldstein says:

Didn’t I ask you nicely yesterday to fuck off?

You’re getting spit and froth and slobber everywhere. And you’re making a fool of yourself with your stream of meaningless numbers and your borderline incoherent prose.

big-ot n: “One who is strongly partial to one’s own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

eg. someone who ascribes bigoted qualities to 61 million Americans simply because they disagree with his politics.

    Fuck. Off.

  42. Lyndsey says:

Bigots, I think you mean. One “g”.  And that makes you a pot calling the kettle black, wouldn’t you say?  The entire system needs to be scrapped and re-built.  Are you doing anything about it, or just using an alias to swear at people?  I stand by my distaste for the Washington vote recounts that continued until someone who lost won. And it’s hardly miniscule to the people who reside in Washington. It’s indicative of a bigger problem.  Go rage somewhere else.

  43. Lyndsey says:

I meant “Losing Mind”, not you, Jeff.smile

  44. MC says:

Note that in ‘Losing Faith’s’ extra votes precincts list in Cuyahoga County, OH points to a link that references the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections as the source for the numbers.

If you actually go and look at the Cuyahoga numbers – NONE of the ‘ballots cast’ numbers in LF’s list above are in the reported numbers – NONE. All ballots cast in every precinct are reasonably less than the number of registered voters.

Of course, Cuyahoga County is a place where Kerry won 67% of the vote, Kucinich got re-elected with 60% of the vote, and Stephanie ‘Tubbs’ Jones (Ed. apostrophes added for effect) ran unopposed. Definitely a place where Republicans could execute a ballot stuffing strategy with impunity.

Losing Faith is using an alias – it’s really ‘Losing F***face’.

  45. JWebb says:

If Losing Faith wants a paper trail, it need look no further that its left shoe heel and “trackback” to the repository for which it stands.

    Buttwipe…

  46. The bottom line for the Michael Moore Democrat Base is that if the Democrat doesn’t win, then the election has been stolen.  There’s no way to get past this.

Personally, I’m happy to let them gnash, rend their clothes, wear hairshirts, rub ashes on their face and hair, complain, moan, groan, slobber, and whine.  Just as long as the Republicans get on with the governing.

I mean, to watch Frist, Hastert, et al., it becomes quickly and painfully obvious that they really doen’t understand that they have power, or how to use it.  Frist is pussified because he wants to run for President and thinks the Kerry route is the way to go (bloody Senators!).  That said, there’s no excuse for Hastert.

One explanation, I guess, is that the MSM (“A wholly-owned Subsidiary of the Democratic Party”) stands ready to unleash a propaganda barrage if the Republicans stray too far from the Democrat norm.  Though, I really can’t see why they should worry, given the disgrace the MSM made of itself in the last election.

So, really, it comes down to the Republicans not believing the country’s swinging their way, and the Democrats not accepting the country’s leaving them.  Hence the pussification and the whining.

  47. Big Al says:

Bravo MC. Took the words right out of my mouth.  Not only is Cuyahoga County thickly populated by the blue, it has been run by Dems for 30 years and it is one of the poorest counties in the union.  AND they complain about being poor and they still stuff the ballot for Dems.

So registered voters named Richard Michael Hunt, or Dick Mike Hunt as he likes to be called, or Phil McCracken, or Hugh G. Rekshon normally vote Democrat.

  48. Big and Buckeye says:

    Losing Faith, you’re a numbnuts.

I spent the better part of election day following a car full of women around whe went from precinct to precinct to demand provisional ballots. When the results were in, who was on the news claiming to be disenfranchised? Yep. My motorin’ friends. There they were on the news demanding that Jesse Jackson fly in to help ‘em out. ‘Cause us Ohio bullies stole their votes. bullshit. Blatant attempted fraud.

Of course, that didn’t stop JJ from hopping out of bed and flying in to set us straight. Only it didn’t happen that way. He ran into the right fist of Ken Blackwell. Our local stud. Fucked JJ up good, too.

So, Losing faith, here’s where it gets tough. Do we keep truthin’ you? I mean, at some point somethings gettin’ through your thick skull. then you’d come in off the ledge and act all adult like. After the year of shit you guys have pulled, we’d rather you took a header into the sidewalk.

So listen up… real good, OK?

Turn off the zen chants, put down the weed, use some mantal floss and listen….

    Ready???

    Here goes..YOU FUCKING LOST!!!

get it? After the shit you guys pulled for the past year, a 3% loss is like the Orange Bowl. Big ol’ can of extra strength whoop ass.

You guys are like the little mouthy guy at the local bar. Same shit every night. Can’t hold his likker and he starts poppin off to one of us big fellas. Then gets his ass handed to him. And sure enough, he’s back the next night. Dumbass.

So, you all can keep coming back. We’ll keep dentin’ your head. Don’t bother us a bit.

    Numbnuts

  49. I am just so impressed with some in the Democrat Party. Its only truly “fair” if they win. The Boxer episode on the floor of the house was pathetic. She should be Ukraine working for their President not in the US Senate. Didn’t any of her colleagues have the brains to ask her to shut they hell up so they all won’t like bitter idiots.

Losing Faith…um better take you medication there mate.  The acid-trips you have been taking are turning you into a very paranoid schizo.
