Leave it to us Americans, with our cultures of victimhood and political correctness, to always side with the perceived losers – despite intellectual rationale or morality.
When we were attacked on 911, our collective sentiment for action couldn’t have been more strident.
Now, months later, with the momentum currently more on our side and no recent attacks registering in our short-term memory, all the lefties and intelligentsia are crawling out of the woodwork on behalf of the “oppressed” Muslims and Palestinians. Never mind that anit-Western sentiment in the Muslim world is more clamorous and inflammatory than ever. The West, US and Israel are powerful and prosperous, while the Mideast and Palestine are weak and oppressed (albeit self-oppressed), so the former must always be wrong and the latter always be right. (Unless the latter does something <i>really</I> horrendous. You know, like killing several thousand civilians simultaneously. In which case, they are revoked of their victimhood status for a few months.)
It all somehow reminds me of that episode of South Park in which Kyle is in need of a kidney transplant. His mom instead tries to have him healed through Native American holistics and medicine. Of course, it doesn’t work, and then following exchange takes place:
Sheila (Kyle’s mom): Everything will be fine, Stan. We’re bringing Kyle in to see the Native Americans personally.
Stan: Isn’t it possible that these Indians don’t know what they’re talking about?
Sharon (Stan’s Mom): You watch your mouth Stanley! The Native Americans were raped of their land and resources by white people like us!
Stan: And that has something to do with their medicine because…?
Sharon: ENOUGH Stanley!
Well, the Axis powers were evil, according to my high school history teachers. But oh, no, the media isn’t biased one bit!
