31K fewer Americans have jobs in March, unemployment rate improves!

Once again, the Obama Administration has hit on a way to fix a horrific jobs market: play with perceptions by playing with numbers!

At this rate, Obama is hoping to see an additional 4 million people leave the workforce by, say, September or October. That way, he can boast about a 5-6% unemployment rate and the media will help push that fantasy.

Or will they?

Remember the halcyon days under Bush 43 when the unemployment was around 5% and the Democrats couldn’t stop complaining about those terrible numbers?

    Good times.

When I run into a clip of Obama speaking I mute the volume. I don’t need to hear anything more from him other than “goodbye.”

When your kid is living at home because he lost his job and his house, and you’re stuck in a horrible job but you don’t dare make any waves because there’s six guys waiting to take your spot, and your wife is selling crap on eBay for gas money — well, you don’t really give a shit what the headline number might say. That’s the reality that the Dems need to overcome this year. Best of luck to ’em!

Could somebody please explain why I keep reading articles about how the job market is improving, the real estate market is recovering, everything is better…..and yet NOTHING IS BETTER?
My dad got laid off for the second time at age 60, he can’t find a job and he’s given up trying. They are living off their savings until it runs out, and he’s hoping to get on SS this year when he turns 62!
THERE ARE NO FUCKING JOBS. I am getting so sick of this shit. I am the only employed member of my family right now, thankfully my brother started his own service business but it’s not enough to pay his kids’ medical expenses.

I bought land and I built a garden this year. I’m preparing for the day when we’ve got to fend for ourselves and grow all of our own food, because I think that day is coming.

@Squid: nailed it. It doesn’t matter how much ‘new math’ the BLS applies to the numbers–people are being *destroyed* by this economy, and it’s going to cost the Dems sorely.

The only question from there, is: can Mitt the Milquetoast right the ship of state or just drive us more slowly onto the rocks? I am not hopeful that it’s the former…

Indeed. Funny how in the case of Africa, colonialism is still being blamed half-a-century after its demise. Yet a country like Japan – which was blown completely off the map 67 years ago – bounced back to become a world power. No, not funny. Just sad.
