See? All the more reason why we need a new network of government funded high-speed super bullet trains. And those who oppose it oppose cheaper energy costs! CBS:
North Dakota oil drillers increasingly will rely on trains to move barrels of crude to market after the Obama administration’s decision to reject plans for a pipeline that would run from Canada to refineries on the Gulf of Mexico, state and industry officials say.
“Pipelines are by far the safest and most economically efficient way to transport oil, but we are left with a limited number of options if pipelines are off the table,” said Tony Clark, chairman of the North Dakota Public Service Commission. “Once the oil is flowing, it has to go somewhere.”
Gee, imagine if there’s a derailing, and all that oil were to spill into a wetlands?
Hypothetically, what would the story be, do you suppose?
Likely not that we need more pipelines, but rather that these kinds of environmental disasters are precisely the reason why Obama and his people have been courageously pushing alternative “green” energy — while the fat cat Republicans have been protecting the price-gouging oil barons and their profit trains.
And yes, I realize this story is about a month old. But I thought I’d post it here for the record. Because having now written it, I’m a little worried that this Administration — who tried to affect the Second Amendment by quietly sending guns to Mexican drug cartels — might not try to massage public opinion on oil and the like with a photo op of thousands of dead, oil soaked prairie rabbits.
Every day this President is in office, I grow more and more like Thomas Pynchon or Umberto Eco: everywhere I look is the possibility of a false narrative and a carefully manufactured public perception threatening to bend truth over a wet bar, tear off its panties, and assert its cultural dominance with a few motivated thrusts.
And that the current public “intellectuals” on the right would greet such a happening with the observation that, though such a thing is wrong, truth really should be more careful with what it says, and besides, it was wearing pumps and a short skirt, so…

And now the crises come thick and fast.
Naked veracity makes one cocksure.
We have this, and then we have lefty pundits claiming that you cannot blame high gas prices on Obama. This is actually one of the times that you can blame the president, since he is actively blocking oil production and transportation in this country.
The left needs an education in market economics.
cranky-d, they had one and they don’t believe a word of it. Just ask Paul Krugman.
I think the derailment should happen over a prairie dog town. Then we could all drive our SUVs (at 90 mph! with lots of sudden starts and stops!) out there to see it in person.
I’ve got it! They’re making petroleum as energy-intensive as biofuels! I mean, if it takes three quarts of fuel to make a gallon of ethanol, it only stands to reason that crude oil should be just as difficult to bring to market. BECAUSE OF THE FAIRNESS!
Damn. I think you’re right Squid.
And all this time I thought it was because they were trying to price fossil fuels out of the market.
They’re even more economically illiterate than we thought!
It has an Alain Robbe Grillet feel to it too.
But there is an easier explanation: It is good to be a friend of Obama’s
Please use wood and coal burning locomotives to move that oil past any Rockefeller lands.
