"Federal Spending Without & With Sequester Cuts Federal Spending Without & With Sequester Cuts"

That $1.2 Trillion Boehner and the boys were hoping to “cut” to save the US economy from a credit downgrade — necessitating an agreement with the Democrats to form a SuperCommittee everyone knew wouldn’t and couldn’t possibly work (and even if it did, it would benefit the Dems, who’d get defense spending cuts and non-recipient cuts to Medicare, which they could then blame on the GOP)?

Well, here’s what it gets us: instead of $1.7 Trillion dollar spending increases between 2013-2021, we’ll get the much more fiscally sane and sound $1.6 Trillion in spending increases.

Clap yourselves on the backs if you can pull it off, GOP establishment stalwarts. Job well done. You’re real fiscal hawks.

Time to kick off those wingtips and have yourself a Scotch. Maybe even have one of your interns rub your feet as a reward for all that hard work. Which, if this thing gets done, will include raising our taxes to “pay” for a negligible decrease in the amount of increased spending you’re planning going forward.

Heroes, you are. Conservative stalwarts. Men.

I’m not sure, but I think you were being sarcastic.

  2. deadrody says:

Exactly. I was going to mention that the other day when you were so upset about the pending “cuts” to defense if there was no deal.

There were never going to be ANY cuts. Only a slight reduction in the rate of rise. Nothing more.

    As in: Completely Meaningless

Wow, I can feel the weight lifting off my shoulders already.

I feel like going on a spending spree. I mean, we “saved” .1 trillion dollars.

  4. Swen says:

They’re going to save $100 billion? Color me suspicious. Is that like the $100 billion that Boehner Pledged to save in the FY2011 budget? The $100 billion that got bargained down to $38 billion? the $38 billion that the CBO says was really only $352 million plus smoke and mirrors?

Fortunately for our betters, the Occupy AstroTurf movement has accomplished exactly what the International Socialists hoped it would; when the inevitable financial collapse does occur, the ill-informed American populace will blame Wall Street for the fiscal sins of the government.

Note that they now refer to Government Deficits as “Sovereign Debt”, as if some distant king ran the tab up. This deliberate muddying of the language is intended to keep the elites doing a well-deserved Romanian Lamp Dance when we’re finally reduced to eating our pets.

Today was the first in what promises to be a series of meetings involving the EPA, community leaders, local officials and representatives of the refineries. It tended to confirm the concerns I expressed about the illegitimacy of the environmental justice agenda. The meeting began with Al Armendariz, Administrator for EPA’s South Central Region (Region 6), making a comment to the effect that the refineries in Corpus Christi have enjoyed several years of “record profits,” and that they need to step up and fund solutions for the community.

This is not just a non sequitur, it is a completely inappropriate use of the EPA’s powers. The EPA has no mandate to carry out income redistribution programs. It enforces federal air and water quality standards. For the EPA to use its regulatory powers to try to compel companies subject to its jurisdiction to buy new homes for people who live nearby, which they have no legal obligation to do, is an outrage. This is one more manifestation of the “gangster government,” as memorably christened by Michael Barone, that the Obama administration has become.
