Morning after

Kept waiting for the UN Oil-for-Food scandal to come up in the debate last night (as in, “Well, we probably would’ve been able to put together a much larger coalition, Senator, had not several of our erstwhile allies been more interested in protecting their illegal financial interests in a corrupt UN-enabled kickback scheme than they were in removing the evil tyrant who was, in effect, paying them off.  So, y’know, it’s complicated.”)—but no such luck.

As Roger Simon notes

The tragic part of all this is such a small percentage of the American public knows about Oil-for-Food, although it may have more to tell us about the international balance of power than any other current scandal. Many liberal friends of mine are completely ignorant of these events because they have been relegated, for the most part, to the back pages of The New York Times, therefore invisible. And Paul Volcker’s internal UN investigation has had the paradoxical result of pushing the scandal even further from view, its conclusions hidden from the public until long after the coming election. Even Kerry would have been forced to comment about that. And don’t look for the press to ask him about it? Those few who might be interested won’t have the chance.

Let’s face it:  the ‘global test’ is rigged.  But John Kerry thinks the US should pull out its number two pencils and take the test anyway—if only for the sake of appearances.  Because the man is captive to bureaucratic protocols and “world” perception.  Which makes him a fine candidate to host a State Department dinner—but leaves him dramatically unsuited to lead the US in the global War on Terror.

Jeff, glad you brought up health care.  Look.  Premiums are up 17% under their watch.  Then you’ve got Halliburton stealing seniors’ prescription drug benefits.  We can do better.

Well, we all know it’s easy to convince someone to go to war after you call it the “wrong war at the wrong time.” It is even easier to convince nations to give up their corrupt interests in that country in the name of humanitarianism and so your “buddy” can have your back.  If Kerry gets to the White House, it’s going to turn out like a bad buddy-cop movie.

  3. “Osama bin Laden should have been the complete focus of our effort in the war on terror.”

    Is he really that obtuse?

I’m suprised the Kerry ticket has avoided the Abu Ghraib issue as a point of attack.  Everything that’s known about Bush is known at this point. I can only assume that the avoidance of that subject is the only thing Democrats have to spring as their “October suprise”.  We know the liberals love to flog that dog and the silence about it is deafening to me.  I predict it will be Abu Ghraib revelation in to what Rumsfeld knew and that it ultimately came from a “higher source”.  Which of course means we will all have to conclude that GW was the evil master mind behind it all.  Has Kerry even mentioned it?
