Me: “So. Latest Quininppiac poll has Bush pulling even with Kerry at 48 in your state, traditionally a Democratic stronghold. What gives?”
New Jersey: “That’s a good question. I’m not completely sure, to be honest—though I can offer a couple of guesses if you’d like.”
Me: “Please. You’re the expert.”
New Jersey: “Well, first, I suspect a lot of people in New Jersey are beginning to understand that the prospect of a foppish President with internationalist leanings might make them more vulnerable to a terrorist attack…”
Me: “—that’s heartening…”
New Jersey: “…And second, Kerry’s got the endorsement of Springsteen and Bon Jovi—which, let’s face it, nobody’s taken that pair of self-indulgent blowhards seriously since, like, midway through 1984.”

Great interview. I’m sure New Jersey was grateful you didn’t stoop to all the swamp and “what exit” jokes I imagine it’s barraged with by the hacks in the MSM.
You didn’t stoop to Jersey jokes… did you?
Minor pedantic point, it’s Joe Piscopo.
Even more minor point: Piscopo is an open Bush supporter.
Caveat: I’m pretty sure he is, at least. I recall reading that he was at the RNC. He is a lifelong Democrat, but I think he falls into the Democrats-for-Bush mold. Which sorta makes sense, given his working-class style.
I gotta admit, I never found him as annoying as a lot of other people did.
In the immortal words of the 70’s – “Nigga puh-leeze!”
I’m not buying this crap for a second. Look, I was born and lived most of my life in Newjerseystan (I’m now happily residing in Dallas). I know these people. They’re only slightly worse than the residents of Vermont, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
These people have orgasms in the voting booth when they elect and re-elect over and over again jerks like Torracelli, Frank Louse-nberg, Bradley etc.
The Republicans they elect aren’t much better. Tom Kean? Christie Wit-less? Garabed “Chuck” Haytaian? Ugh.
They voted for Reagan in ‘84. But still, just like salmon have to swim upstream, they’ll get in the voting booth, see Kerry’s name, ejaculate, and then pull his lever. I predict Kerry wins Newjerseystan by 5.
To be fair, Jon Bon Jovi didn’t really become a self-indulgent parody of himself until around 1987
But you’re right about Springsteen. The irony of attaching the moniker “working-class hero” to a multimillionaire fucker of supermodels was obvious to everyone but him by 1984.
Correction – I meant to say that NJ residents are only slightly better than the residents of VT,RI and MA, not worse.
In my district Elmer Fudd would win, as long as he ran as a democrat. Each of the dead people in Hudson County will vote two ro three times. This state elected Frank Lautenberg. Frank the cadaverous prick Lautenberg, I tell you.
I’m sure that the voters in this state will rise to the occasion once more. Shit floats, what?
There’s more going on in NJ than some might understand. Don’t forget the state found out it has a scandal plagued male democrat Governor with designs on becoming first lady; and he’s currently trans-resigned. Will he, or won’t he leave? Only his hair dresser knows for sure.
All that led to the national MSM pulling the scab off the state’s long-festering political sewer. And the reporting was very hard to miss.
Our proximity to NY and threats on The Prudential building also bring national security into play here, now as much as ever. Also, since 9/11 more and more city folks have been fleeing to the Jersey West Coast. Yes, there is one, full of farms, new construction and fresh air – and it’s been scientifically proven (I have the memos what say so) that the above combination can cause a mutation toward conservatism, even in the most diehard metro-sexual fleeing the city.
There are a lot of “local” dynamics putting the state in play for Bush. And I’m damn glad to see the RNC has figured it out and is at least dancing around making a play. The First Lady (the real one, not the luv-guv) came to visit last week. And if the dems fall asleep here, they’re going to get taken from behind. Which, obviously, brings us right back to discussing the Governor. But, I won’t. Don’t right off a surprise on Nov. 2. And if Jersey goes to Bush at 8PM EST … the fat lady will have sung. And I ain’t talking about John Edward’s old lady.
