About that debt ceiling deal that saved the country from economic catastrophe by preventing certain default

A visual.

Oh. Then there’s this nodal point, subject to change:

Dow 11,590.80 -305.69 (-2.64%)
Nasdaq 2,615.20 -77.87 (-2.98%)
S&P 1,225.25 -35.09 (-2.86%)

Somebody send Bill Kristol a box of chocolates.

  2. Ernst Schreiber says:

Heard something about a USA Today poll showing all us little people aren’t very happy with the deal.

I have a friend who only emails me once in awhile to say “Shit just got real!”.

    Got that email today.

Krugman, reflecting the brilliance of the political left:

And think about the politics here. For two years the White House has been determinedly cheerful, always declaring that the recovery was on track, that its policies were working fine. And all it did was squander its credibility. Maybe admitting the truth, saying that in fact we hadn’t done nearly enough, would not have helped get useful legislation through Congress. But at least it would have conveyed the message that the WH was living in the same reality as ordinary workers.

More spending! He means get real people!

Hey Brother, can you spare a trillion bucks?

    Pablo —

The stock market is falling because investors are worried about all the draconian cuts in the debt deal, forced on America by the hostage-taking TEA Partiers.

This has been the set-up from the establishment from minute one. Because party doesn’t matter. It’s ruling class spenders vs. the rest of us.

Actually, it’s because those racists just realized that Obama is black, so they’re trying to take him down. That’s just as realistic, and also floating around out there.

Meanwhile, -408.13. If this causes people to start jumping off of tall buildings in DC, I’ll call it a good day.

This keeps up and EmpLamDukO may just cancel that BusTrip he’s been thinking to take, out of his own fear of the mobs.

  9. Pablo says:

On the bright side, while I see plenty of people selling that tripe, I’m not seeing anyone other than the true believers buying it.

  10. bh says:

Well, this was certainly an interesting day.

  11. sdferr says:

It’s sort of no wonder that they’re having to chain Geithner to his desk: no one in their right mind would want to be associated with this crew or this Global business climate ice-age they’ve made.

just in time for a baracky friday

Stocks plunged Thursday, with the Dow tumbling 500 points just before the close, as fear about the global economy spooked investors.

“The conventional wisdom on Wall Street was that the economy was growing — that the worst was behind us,” said Peter Schiff, president of Euro Pacific Capital. “Now what people are realizing is the stimulus didn’t work, and we may be headed back to recession.”

U.S. markets were already sharply lower on widespread worries, including the weak job market. But the selling gained momentum as Japanese and European policymakers stepped in with dramatic measures to shore up their financial markets.

There’s “total fear” in the market, said Bob Doll, chief equity strategist at the world’s largest money manager, BlackRock

From newrouter’s quote, can someone explain how we can be headed back into a recession that we never got out of? I’ve been wondering about that.

    The stock market is racist.

    Read between the lines.

  15. bh says:

One line is a 250-day moving average of past racism. The Dow closed below it today. Making it… really, really racist.

    Pablo,

I’m in Providence and everyting closes at 5, what kinda place you running here? ;-)

Well, I got MY ass kicked today.

Thank you, DC egotistical retards. I’m a fucking psychotic because YOU stuck a giant, running out of control bulldozer up America’s ass, and pretend that it is MY fault? I would spit in Hairy Reids face if he ever got within range. I really would. When I hear him on the car radio, I want to speed up to 80mph, and aim for the closest oak tree.

OH MY GOD! Just the sound of his voice makes my teeth hurt.

FUCKING BRAIN-DEAD IDIOTS! I am “psychotic” because I say “Cut the shit”? I’m having a “tantrum”?

It amazes me that I am so calm. I guess I’ve been expecting this, but was hoping that it wouldn’t happen until 1/1/12. I wish I had bought gold three years ago, but I guess it’s never too late -except for the fact that I lost a fucking fortune today. Can’t wait for tomorrow, when the DOW rises 13,000 points.

  18. zino3 says:

How come all the really good lines occur to you AFTER you are finished “speaking”?

I STILL have some great lines for people who screwed with me when I was thirteen.

    But, I will spare you.

It’s Obama-cheerleading Make-Believe Media logic. Don’t try to follow it. That way leads to madness.
