LAT:
Some ominous political news for President Obama the day after he chose Memorial Day to name a new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff:
With just 15 months until the 2012 presidential election, Obama’s overall job approval among Americans has sunk back down into the 40s.
But now a new poll of nearly a quarter-million Americans finds the commander-in-chief’s job approval is even worse among members of the military, present and past.
A new Gallup poll finds that slightly more than a third of those military members (37%) approve of their commander’s overall job from January of last year through April 2011.
This compares to Obama’s 48% approval among nonmilitary Americans during the same period, Gallup reported.
Hmm. Not to rain on the parade of right-wing jubilation such a poll engenders, but the numbers sound fishy to me. My guess? Gallup double counted corpsman and, you know, corpse-man.
So there’s that.
It’s obvious Gallup has been captured by the Koch-sucking teabaggers (I stole that from some news-site commenter who used it unironically and therefore deserves to be stolen from).
Note that Gallup and Rasmussen have certain things in common that prove the former are in bed with those right-wing spin-cyclists at Rasmussen: the first syllables of both names contain the short A.
If Gallup were trustworthy they’d change the pronunciation of their name to rhyme with codswallop.
How depressing; nearly a third of my husband’s co-workers think the guy who did not want to pay them is doing just fine?
What, did they only ask high ranking officers?
And that isn’t taking into account those that hide their political thoughts, and wouldn’t tell a pollster anything near the truth… I bet not one soldier I have led could have told you much other than I was a bit cynical about politicians in general.
Why does our military hate America?
Squid, it’s pretty obvious that the most racially integrated institution in America (said military) is also the most raaaaacist.
Sounds right to me – suck-ups are about a third of the active-duty folks.
Why am I not surprised by this result…And Colonel John is right, a great number of those interviewed didn’t reveal their true thoughts.
I know that there were few people that I talked candidly with regarding politics while on active duty.
Well, yeah, there’s nothing like Article 88 of the UCMJ to keep your lips zippered up.
