But fuck it. I didn’t become a judge to protect the status quo. Being a liberal judge means protecting the people, and in this case, it means protecting the people — who accidentally installed a conservative into the statehouse — from themselves. Or, to put it another way, THE LAW BELONGS TO ME!
Now. Bow before me, bitches!
This is one daffy bitch. Her Supreme spanking should be very entertaining.
[…] II]: As is often the case, our pal Jeff Goldstein at Protein Wisdom characterizes Judge Sumi’s ruling in his own inimitable way: I didn’t become a judge to protect the status quo. Being a liberal judge means protecting the […]
She was appointed by Tommy Thompson. In case anyone from Wisco was wondering if they should encourage him to run for Kohl’s Senate seat.
Also, if you’re thinking of encouraging him to run for Kohl’s Senate seat, he did quite a lot to quietly give the unions these crazy ass benefits in the first place because he knew that salary increases weren’t politically palatable.
Why, yes, I am completely neutral on this matter. Can’t you tell?
Collective bargaining for public employees is a HUMAN RIGHT!
Shameless…Thank God Prosser managed to avoid having the election stolen from him by Kloppenburg.
Make no mistake, this is all about the politics; keeping the outrage burning through the recall elections this summer.
I wonder if this judge can be subject to recall for overstepping the limits of her authority?
Thanks for the input bh,
So who are y’all going to get to run against Thompson in the primaries? Ryan says he ain’t doin’ it.
Probably Ted Kanavas, who just beat Tommy at the convention’s straw poll. With Mark Neumann as a back-up probably.
But, there is still plenty of time and lots of people who are looking to recruit a new Ron Johnson type. That’s my personal inclination.
Given the well-documented dysfunction among the WI Supremes, I’d like to request that they broadcast their deliberations on this case. Heck, make it Pay-Per-View and bring in a few bucks for the state!
I’d watch every minute of that.
Sumi is the vanguard running point with the appeals court in Madison as the main force and Kloppenburg as the screen in the effort by the Unions to eliminate the collective bargaining law.
I’d just pass the thing again and make the whole issue moot. And then see that this wildly out of control judge is held up as a terrific example of what is in store with Proggies in ANY branch of the Gov.
If collective bargaining is a human right, then I’m joining the NFL player’s union. What? I work just as hard as Tom Brandstater DAMMIT! I WANTS MY MONAAAAY!
…now that the union goons were unable to steal a state supreme court election.
Just a minor editorial suggestion: I think “union bosses” works better than “union goons.” Helps to reinforce exactly who it is that Judge Sue Me is working for.
Her logic is as appealling as she is.
Her logic is as appalling as she is.
That could very well be the response.
I forget who it was but one of them took a second run for the border off the table awhile back.
I’d just pass the thing again and make the whole issue moot.
I’d rather hear the Wisconsin SC give the most colossal bitch slap in the history of jurisprudence to Her Honor. Might leave a bigger mark on the face of progressivism. Otherwise, it makes it look like the union stooges had a point. Which, no.
Think I’d prefer that as well, SW.
The strategic thinking is that this suit has no merit. Just like the next one will if they re-pass the legislation.
The advantage then would go to the initial legislation because it’s already moved forward through the judicial process. Hence, we’ll be facing a weak legal argument either way and the current legislation has a time advantage. Which, as Geoff rather astutely notes, then intertwines with the choices that the Supreme Court loser, Kloppenburg, might choose to employ.
(People tell me these things and then, occasionally, the opposite happens. So, grain of salt and all that.)
