"More Drilling in U.S. is ‘A Problem, Not A Solution’ to Creating Jobs, Says Democrat Member of House Labor Subcommittee"

That’s okay. Because I have a solution: stop fucking with everything.

A warning, though. My solution only works if you happen to be serious about solutions. If you are committed to creating ever new problems by insinuating inefficient government into every aspect of both the marketplace and our lives — or if you believe job creation can only happen when legislation is introduced and passed in support of it — you’re best off paying me no mind.

You have enough problems without letting me get inside your head. Trust me on this.

  1. McGehee says:

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a member of the House Budget Committee, said there would be no “immediate” reduction of gas prices from more drilling.

“We need to be reducing our dependence on fossil fuels…”

Because while new drilling won’t produce “immediate” results, a government decree switching the entire nation to a new energy source that hasn’t even been invented yet, will.

    Idiots.

  3. If we got serious about drilling for oil, I believe there would be reductions in prices due to the expectation of new oil entering the market at a future date.

Besides, what the fuck else can they do to affect oil prices positively? Nothing, as far as I can tell. Furthermore, it won’t cost any money to let private businesses do more of what they do, and more people will have work. There is not a downside unless you’re a progressive.

It’s obvious that the congresscritter is unfamiliar with the concept of “futures trading.”

  6. Squid says:

Which is ironic, given that they’ve traded away our future for a handful of magic beans.

  7. antillious says:

It’s not so much that drilling isn’t a solution, it’s just that it’s nasty evil Big Oil that gets the $$$ from it. Now if the government were to seize the oil industry, drilling would be a great way to create jobs “for the people”.

Jesus H. Christ! What the fuck is wrong with you? You’ll give them ideas!

  9. Stephanie says:

Maxine Waters has already suggested that we nationalize the oil industry.

Y’all are late to this party.

Let’s not forget the green component of this graph. Don’t get me wrong; I think the federal gas tax should probably be higher, if only to capture the costs involved in protecting the assets that produce and distribute fuels, as well as the costs of maintaining federal highways. But Uncle Sam makes a tidy sum from every gallon.

  11. Jim in KC says:

I suppose if there’s one way to get us off oil, it would be to have the government take over and run the oil business.

  12. Blake says:

Drilling for oil = more of a problem than people being out of work and unable to support themselves.

Just when you think the stupid can’t get any stronger in Congress, these people have to prove you wrong.

    It’s working great for Chavez!

Which is why North Dakota is a state full of fail.

I could get behind something like that. In fact I did on the state level. We passed prop 104 in California, a few cents per gallon to go into a special fund to be used only for road infrastructure. Five years later we find out it’s all going into the general fund, and it’s the same today as far as I know. So basically now it’s used for union pensions and free health care for Mexican nationals.

I have little doubt any Federal scheme would meet the same fate.

Y’mean the politicians throw all the money into one big pot and then jump into it like Gretal and Hansel (Han-zel? HAN-zel??) jumped into that witch’s pot full of ice cream sundae?

Well, Ernst, now you why the Establishment GOP behaves they way they do.
