My copy says greasy taco humpers, but I can see where that might be synonymous.
I see that you rely on the same sources as Paul Krugman and the 9/11 commission.
I know you’re just joking around, but is there any reason to think that she’s actually a racist? In other words, is there any reason why this is more appropriate than the same list posted at a light-hearted liberal site, with “Theresa Heinz Kerry” name replaced by “Laura Bush”?
Consuelo (like in Solondz’s ‘Storytelling’.
Well, one describes herself by saying “I’m cheeky, I’m sexy, whatever,”
while the other says stuff like, “Every child in America should have access to a well-stocked school library.
The daughter of a prominent Portuguese doctor, Heinz Kerry, n
I don’t know how much we’ll gain from a comparative discussion of the two potential First Ladies; that wasn’t my intention. (I should say that you can make virtually anyone on Earth look better than anyone else by picking one sentence from one and comparing that to one sentence from the other.)
What I mean to say is: many on the right have accused left-wingers, with justification, of throwing out baseless accusations of racism. It’s a destructive, embittering form of debate. And yet it seems to be what Jeff is doing here.
One defense is that I should lighten up, it’s just a joke. Then my original question stands: there’s no evidence that Theresa Heinz Kerry is a racist. There’s also no reason to believe that Laura Bush is a racist. So is the joke equally appropriate told either way?
I make no claims to objectivity or omniscience, Ted. Ms Kerry just strikes me as the type who speaks publically about the plight of the poor and the oppressed, then behind the scenes acts quite like a royal, condiment-peddling queenie.
Yes, a liberal site could conceivably substitute Laura Bush for Teresa Heinz Kerry. But it wouldn’t ring half as true, in my opinion.
And yes, I was just kidding—playing on what I perceive to be THK’s phony populism. In order for the post to work the way I wanted it to, I had to pick one ethnicity and stick with it. So I went with Hispanic, because the public perception of south of the border illegals working as hired help for rich political bigwigs is long established. I have no idea even if she has help.
The post was about snobbery / elitism.
Joe, I don’t understand. You’re pointing to Theresa Heinz Kerry’s background and accomplishments. Indeed, she was born to successful parents, has studied internationally, and speaks more than one language. The same is true of my lovely fiancee. I’d imagine that the same is true of many people that you admire as well.
Where in there am I supposed to discern that she deserves to be portrayed as calling Hispanics filthy racist names?
Ted, let me be plain. Based on her background, previous marriage, and occaisional “slips”, Ms. Kerry is certainly open to accusations of elitism. One can hardly say the same for Ms. Bush, so the joke doesn’t really work on her. Two key points here, Ted:
1) This has nothing to do with racism, per se, and
2) You clearly don’t get the joke.
Unless there’s evidence of this kind of behavior from her, it’s just mean-spirited.
Anyway, don’t forget that she’ll be our nation’s first African-American first lady. And John Kerry says he’s going to be the “second black President.”

Ted, if I may be of assistance:
“She has reportedly chewed out members of her late husband’s campaign staff, her current husband’s campaign staff, her children, her stepchildren, waiters and sales clerks.”
There is relevant precedent for the joke, though the racist angle is stretching. I will admit that Jeff’s site is often just ad hominem, meanie-meanie foul, slanderous, no-value, intellectually bankrupt, inaccurate cowshit; if I were you, I would seriously consider getting your humor exclusively from INDC Journal, where our brand of Teresa Heinz-Kerry jokes use material straight from the heiress’s mouth.
PS – Hi Jeff!
Hi Bill. Wow, this font really makes you look tall!
Yeah, but does this blog make me look fat?
Ted,
One minor quibble:
Laura Bush IS the first lady. Not a potential.
You mean, appointed first lady.
You mean, appointed first lady.
Aren’t they all?
I believe she calls the help “John, who dabbles in politics.”
