After all, the Cookie Monster runs afoul of Michelle Obama’s proper eating initiative (don’t even get me started on that gluttonous Miss Piggy, with her false consciousness); Kermit routinely insists that going green is for more difficult than kids are otherwise being told; and Oscar bullies bullies bullies from amid his filth — and so of course this hotbed of anti-social propaganda NEEDS to be removed from the public dole.
For the children.
Fly away, little Starling. Fly fly fly. Fly fly fly…
I was just thinking about the cookie monster and how he was changed from a real cookie monster to a watered-down “cookies are a sometimes food monster” not ten seconds before reloading the previous tab and seeing this new entry.
I’m kinda scared now. Are you reading my mind, or am I reading yours?
Bring back Firing Line. Oh wait, it was not on PBS. It started on WOR-TV.
Imagine that.
You can’t have a revolution without a revolutionary media.
I had a ball at ThinkProgress yesterday; in the Georgia Repubs want to tax the Girlscouts, and give tax breaks to rich evil companies, thread. My premise being that taxing the cookies will be a good thing. “For the children” to help in the obesity campaign. Taxing cigs for healthcare funding and other behavioral modification taxes, for example. They didn’t like the idea being used against them this time. Fun stuff. Maybe it’s just me…..
After reading the linked articles, I’ve figured out the answer to my question in the other thread. Part of PBS’s mission could very well have been to bring educational programming, such as nature shows and the like, to people who otherwise would not have seen them, because there were only a few television stations in any given town (San Diego had five stations in all when I was a lad, and PBS was one of them). With the incredible diversity of choice now, and with many cable stations that specialize in educational as well as kid-friendly programming, PBS might very well have outlived its usefulness.
I have enjoyed many of the good British programs they have shown, though, such as Peroit, Rumpole of the Baily, and the like. However, who’s to say that one reason you don’t see those shows elsewhere is because PBS has cornered the market and other channels know they cannot compete?
You can get many of those British shows on Netflix now.
O’Keefe’s doing it wrong. NBC proved that NASCAR races are where the real racists can be found.
A&E showed it a few years ago. And you can get the complete megaset for $43 now.
For the Chillens?
Disparate impact? A Big Fucking Deal. Educational impact on students there to actually learn? Not a BFD.
Forgot to mention… the consequences of being out of compliance on the disparate impact… loss of federal funding.
Maybe some conservatives who sit on school boards could, like, egregiously enact some disparate impactive policies and notify their congress critters the federal funds are available to pay down the debt. Win!
Stephanie @6, when is the story about the weird politeness of NASCAR fans going to air?
