Gov Walker fires back at Obama

In response to the President’s attempt to cast state entitlement reforms as denigrating and villifying public workers and trampling on their “right” to collude as an exempt monopoly to traditional anti-trust laws, WI Governor Scott Walker points out some truths that the administration no doubt finds inconvenient:

“I’m sure the President knows that most federal employees do not have collective bargaining for wages and benefits while our plan allows it for base pay. And I’m sure the President knows that the average federal worker pays twice as much for health insurance as what we are asking for in Wisconsin. At least I would hope he knows these facts.

“Furthermore, I’m sure the President knows that we have repeatedly praised the more than 300,000 government workers who come to work every day in Wisconsin.

“I’m sure that President Obama simply misunderstands the issues in Wisconsin, and isn’t acting like the union bosses in saying one thing and doing another.”

Two words: cock. slap.

Apparently unbeknownst to the one-term boy wonder, there are plenty of opportunistic community organizers in Milwaukee County as well. So, Walker has had plenty of practice.

I wonder though, has Barry ever had to spar with a large number of competent, hard-nosed governors at the same time?

    From the transcript (http://abcnews.go.com/ThisWeek/week-transcript-saif-al-islam-saadi-gadhafi/story?id=13012239&page=4):

TAPPER: Let’s start with the other upraising, the one in Wisconsin that we’ve seen. The nation has watched as Governor Scott Walker has sought to not only cut the benefits of state employees, but also restrict their collective bargaining rights. Is this the right move Governor Haley?

GOV. NIKKI HALEY, (R) SOUTH CAROLINA: Absolutely. You know, what we have to remember is we appreciate our public employees. But our job as governors is to look after the tax payers. And he’s doing exactly what he promised to do, he is trying to trim his budget. He is trying to make the tough decisions that the people of Wisconsin wanted him to do.

[Discussion on the WI Senate Dems.]

HALEY: But let’s be clear, this was cowardly. This was irresponsible. They left their state at a time when their state needed them the most because they don’t want to take a vote. Whether they are for it or against it, you come back and you represent the people of your state.

I think what Governor Walker is doing is showing that he is standing his ground. I talked to him this past week. He is holding strong. I told him the people of this country want him to hold strong. I think what is absolutely shameful is those senators left their state.

TAPPER: Isn’t this just a power grab by those who oppose unions?

HALEY: Absolutely not. Because what you’re looking at is, these employees oppose the health care cuts. They have opposed the benefit cuts. So they’re saying no to everything. So collective bargaining is a combination of all of that.

What he’s saying is, now more than ever, we have got to get control of our states. We’ve got to get control of our budgets. This is the time where he has got to make decisions. He’s trying to do that. And I think the people elected him to do that.

TAPPER: Should they risk a shutdown?

HALEY: I’m proud of those congressional Republicans for making those cuts. We have a leader of this country that has got to make some decisions. The people have spoken. No, I don’t think government should shut down, but it’s up to the president to go and negotiate with the Republicans, not for the Republicans to go and negotiate with the president. They are doing what the people asked. This last election said, less dollars, no deficits. Let’s start living within our means. I think those Republican congressmen did that. I think the president needs to respond.

All in all, what I see is her going on a national news show and kicking some ass. Then, later, The Hill decides to bait any Palin folks who have a hair trigger response and some have decided to oblige them.

Also, the WI Senate moved the bill to the final stage today. When the Democrats return, all they can vote on is the final bill; no amendments.

In other news, the Kenosha News decided it was more important to blow kisses at Senator Robert Wirch than mention http://www.recallwirch.com. The article let everyone know how hard he is working; in Illinois.

  31. Mr B says:

    Partial update from recallwirch:

“What is remarkable about our efforts are some of the stories we have heard. One, from a member of Senator Wirch’s family. This person said that there were 89 members of Senator Wirch’s family and 57 of them would sign the recall petition. Unbelievable. We are receiving scores of reports of people signing our petitions who voted for Wirch in previous elections but would never do so again.”

    Ouch.

He wouldn’t suffer the pay cut. And politicians? They are just ancillary little vanity things one buys and discards when they get caught in the nooky jar. Oh, speaking of cute little vanity playthings, John Edwards is in the news again…

Those who have been subpoenaed include dozens of former campaign workers, top aides, friends and Ms. Hunter. Investigators have also interviewed Rachel Mellon, 100, a reclusive banking heiress known as Bunny who may have given as much as $6 million to the Edwards operation

  58. alppuccino says:

“….we’re not going to convince the bravest Americans to put their lives on the line unless the money’s there.”

    –Barry Obama, Feb 2011

Just let that marinate. Bravest Americans are only brave when they get paid handsomely. Our history books are littered with heros. Most people don’t know that the CMOH is actually a big contest with a huge cash prize as the purse.

George W Bush, one of the greatest men to ever serve as president, as history will show, would never talk about our bravest Americans in terms of money.

And derailing a thread that puts Obama in such sharp contrast is not cool. Everything Obama does and says is idiotic and the spotlight on that must never be turned off.

  59. JHoward says:

so there’s many losers here on this site? bh,ser8d,jd et al. can’t do discussion.

  64. alppuccino says:

Al, its almost like Obama doesn’t understand America.

Yeah Matt. Without a teleprompter his view is so clear. Obama in the workplace: “I’m not saving that child in the burning car. It’s not my job. And besides, I’m on my mandatory 15 minute break, set in stone by collective bargaining, thank you very much. You give me a couple more weeks vacation and we’ll talk about bustin’ that windshield with a crowbar maybe.”

  65. Silver Whistle says:

Poor little sleeping worker. He’s like a character from a Dickens novel.

You must mean Joe The Fat Boy from the Pickwick Papers.

    No offense, Joe.

  66. Slartibartfast says:

But Clemson does have a rep as a party school.

Which is not the same as saying absolutely everyone who went there was into partying. Or that the people you did party with are the ones that “brung you”, whatever the fuck that means.

Yes, I can see it: Nimrata Nikki Randhawa Haley, the daughter of Sikh immigrants, banging the hell out of the football team at Clemson. It totally fits! And it’s ever so relevant to the subject at hand!

  67. Slartibartfast says:

Attractive female public figure == banged the entire football team. I’ll have to remember that if and when Valerie Plame makes it back to the spotlight.

  68. Stephanie says:

  69. Stephanie says:

Hey lookey the link worked. Thanks guys!

  70. LTC John says:

“….we’re not going to convince the bravest Americans to put their lives on the line unless the money’s there.”

    –Barry Obama, Feb 2011

Where did you get that little nugget? I’m just trying to decide how pissed off to get, after I read it in full context…

  71. LTC John says:

“These are times that demand it. We’re not going to attract the best teachers for our kids, for example, if they only make a fraction of what other professionals make. We’re not going to convince the bravest Americans to put their lives on the line as police officers or firefighters if we don’t properly reward that bravery.”

    Oh, from the first link…

OK, now I know how angry to be… lots! Bravery comes from money, eh? I guess the grunts that patrolled with me were selling themselves too cheap, eh Mr. CINC?

  72. Carin says:

“Professionals” don’t need unions, Barry. Or collective bargaining. Merit pay.

  73. Carin says:

    Honestly, that’s just stupid.

  74. LTC John says:

Funny how the answer for how to get “better” government workers is always the same – more money has to be taken from the rest of you and given to them.

I mean, God knows I enlisted back in 1985 for that sweet, sweet paycheck. The $110 a month I cleared as an E-5 in 1986 only inflamed my greed further! Don’t even get me started on that 2LT pay…I lived the rap video life then…

The only reason I ever stayed in and went through all those years away from my family and got shot at and such was for the lucre. Nothing to do with Duty, Honor, Country or any of that rubbish.

I think that O! just revealed a really shabby part of his soul for all of us to see.

  75. Stephanie says:

Collective bargaining fits hand and glove with socialized education in this country. Teaching to the lowest common denominator is no different than employing to the lowest common denominator. Both keep the serfs dependent on their betters for their advancement and result in no one advancing farther or faster than their neighbor. And one is dependent on the other. You can’t become an evil entrepreneur as an undereducated serf thereby ensuring you take your place at the government/union feed trough.

  76. Obstreperous Infidel says:

“Professionals” don’t need unions, Barry. Or collective bargaining. Merit pay.

Damn, he’s either really stupid or a pandering moron. I know, I know. It’s both. But to go further with the “professional” goofiness, other professionals don’t work 8 mos a year and have much longer work days. None of this seems to matter to the presidipshit.

  77. Stephanie says:

Part of his soul? Seems the whole thing is rotten to the core, LTC.

Remember that, as Moochelle says, working for the government is a noble calling and extra perks like student loan forgiveness and a cushy government job with inflated benefits are yours for your noble sacrifice of working for the people. Excepting the military, of course. They’re eeeevil.

  78. Obstreperous Infidel says:

    Bravery comes from money, eh?

To the class warrior, everything comes from money. Do you really think Obama would do anything remotely brave if there wasn’t either a large sum of money or praise to be had after the brave act? Of course not. Their world view is all about self. That’s why the irony burns so bad when they call non-collectivists selfish. The only reason they are collectivists is to lessen their own burden.

  79. geoffb says:

if they only make a fraction of what other professionals make.

    Fractions deciphered.

  80. McGehee says:

    They don’t lie, they don’t lie, they don’t lie…

    Koch/Cain (’12)!

My wife had heard about Wisconsin but didn’t know other states were dealing with union thuggery, and she had no clue the Kochs existed, so I had to explain all this to her before giving her that punchline.

    It was worth it.

  81. Squid says:

So, according to our President, professional firefighters are more rightly called “courage whores,” while volunteer firefighters are “courage sorority girls.”

Not to take anything away from Walker Taxes Ranger, but cockslapping this president is proving surprisingly easy to do.

  82. Matt says:

LTC John : Mercenary. I thought he was just a patriot who was serving his country but apparently its all about the filthy lucre. “Hey hey Ho Ho Haliburton mecs have got to go. GOOOOO BAMMER!”

I wonder if its possible Obama is transferring -ie, “Obama you should join the military” Obama “Hell no, community organizing pays alot better. We’ll let the rednecks in flyover country do the military jobs enlightened progressives won’t do”

  83. Timstigator says:

    “denigrating and villifying public workers”

Oh, I think they’re doing a fine job doing that themselves.

  84. LBascom says:

Obama is just upset Walker brought a bazooka to a gun fight.

Also, newrouter is not an imbecile. I’m glad he’s on our side.

  85. alppuccino says:

When a person can so often say offensive things and then have the MSM give him a get out of stupid-jail free card every time, shouldn’t the fact that Obama is just not that smart seep into the consciousness by osmosis? Eventually?

  86. Slartibartfast says:

    Fractions deciphered.

Over at Classical Values, JorgXMcKie and I had an exchange over that.

My take is this: if you ask most people what their pay is, they’ll tell you their salary. That’s a fairly common practice, but becoming less common. I don’t fault teachers for only wanting to disclose their salary, because they probably have no idea (until now) that the rest of their compensation is, relatively speaking, pretty plush.

According to the link, benefits compensation accounts for 30-40% of total compensation. For me, a private-sector engineer, it’s something like 22%. My benefits are about 28% of my salary. For the Wisconsin teachers they looked at, the numbers are substantially higher.

  87. alppuccino says:

    I’ll give you another one:

We didn’t want to send a warship and get our people out immediately because we didn’t want to put our people in danger like the British did when they sent their warship to get their people out immediately. I mean, can you imagine the danger those poor Brits were in while our people were all snug in the ferry waiting for calmer seas?

Absolute retards. And not in a good way.

  88. mojo says:

I was told I was unqualified to teach computer science in our local HS because I didn’t have a certification in “Early Childhood Education”. That’s in California. Never mind that I have a good 30+ years of practical experience in the subject, and was willing to work for free. No, you see, I can’t teach because the poor widdle kiddies might cry if I told them their answer was “wrong”.

My response of “Well, go fuck yourselves, then.” was possibly not as polite as it might have been.

  89. LTC John says:

#82 – if you don’t mind, I shall be using those terms.

#89 – I wish you had film of the reaction to your response…

  90. Squid says:

Feel free, John. Just make sure there aren’t any sorority girls in earshot. They can be prickly sometimes.
