My take is this: if you ask most people what their pay is, they’ll tell you their salary. That’s a fairly common practice, but becoming less common. I don’t fault teachers for only wanting to disclose their salary, because they probably have no idea (until now) that the rest of their compensation is, relatively speaking, pretty plush.
According to the link, benefits compensation accounts for 30-40% of total compensation. For me, a private-sector engineer, it’s something like 22%. My benefits are about 28% of my salary. For the Wisconsin teachers they looked at, the numbers are substantially higher.
I’ll give you another one:
