Hey. Hippie: the taxpayers footing the bill for the pensions and health care of public sector union employees are also working men and women.
The difference is, the working men and women you support expect the rest of the working men and women to pay for the entirety of their health care and pensions. The working men and women you support likewise back union bosses who demand that, in order to work, a person must belong to their organization, adhere to their rules, and pay them for the privilege of working — with much of the money they’re forced to pay going toward electing the very politicians who are enslaving future generations of working men and women by promising benefits packages that are economically unsustainable, and that can never be honored (but that won’t come due until they are long out of office).
You support union bosses who demand conformity, and who frown on individualism among their rank and file. You support rewarding mediocrity at the same rate as excellence; you support wealthy union bosses over private sector workers; you support crooked politicians over reformers; you support the haves over the have nots.
So. Stick that in your drum circle and bang, brother.
WHY DO YOU HATE FREEDOM?

And – working until they croak. Waiting tables or working a retail counter, or sitting at a desk crunching numbers until they’re 72 or more. Not retiring at 52 with a nice pension and full health benefits for life.
I heard some local asshole interview a bunch of toadies yesterday (a union lawyer, and then a union leader) and I almost threw up.
Boy. Shut down is looking better and better.
I got a nit to pick too.
Isn’t teaching school a profession?
I’ve never considered teachers as the working man.
I thought the Alamo was in Texas. Who would have thought it would be refought in Madison.
Jeff – It couldn’t have been better said.
Sorry working men. While you were smoking butts outside the school and trying to finger bang the fat chick wearing the denim jacket with a Led Zeppelin album cover painted on the back, I was studying.
Isn’t teaching school a profession?
Silly. Organizations affiliated with professions police their members. Insure that they are up to snuff. Lawyers have the Bar association. Doctors have the medical examining board.
Abe, this has nothing to do with whether or not a person has a higher degree.
There are many hard working blokes out there not working for unions, making decent wages, and fighting the good fight. They don’t wanna subsidize teacher’s pensions either.
Well, they are shaping minds. So that makes them kinda like bricklayers.
And, I will note that some of those leading the union charge are teachers with doctorates.
We’d all prolly would have been better off if they’d finger banged a few chicks in high school.
Or brickmakers in that molding clay sense.
Why do they hate freedom? Because it’s hard. Messy. And requires personal responsibility. Or when you say freedom, Jeff, do you mean watch porn 24×7, swear when you wanna, and get free food, healthcare, and Internet. ‘Cause that’s the real freedoms, ya know?
Wait. Was the fat chick wearing the Led Zep jean jacket?
ProfShade nails it. We have two entirely different working definitions of the word, “Freedom”.
And yes, these assholes really do seem to forget that the “working man” is the one that is paying those other “working men’s” salary.
There was a interesting quietness and normalcy to the neighborhood around Madison University on Saturday. I parked at Grainger hall and made my way towards the capitol. The parking lot was relatively empty. Outside, there were numerous college students and people going about their lives. Some were talking about a TV show.
As I stepped closer to the Capitol, I noticed my first “protester”. A lone guy carrying a “Walker killed bambis mom”. At the next intersection, a huge WALKER sign appeared; along with a dozen college kids carrying it and following. That ripple in the continuity of normalcy came and went. I’m back amongst the people going about their business.
A little further, I spotted a McCarthyism: back in Wi shirt in a store window. I took a picture and carried on. Within a few blocks of the Capitol I could now hear some drumming and murmuring. Soon, I finally stepped into the surreal.
A scattered mass of protesters were on the west end; with a bustle of crowd moving counterclockwise on the square street route. I made my way over to the east end. It was considerably more active and crowded the further I went. I finally spotted a yellow TP flag and made my way over. There was a clear line of Tea Party gathering to opposition. I struggled to hear what was being said as the drum beats, chants and shouts were drowning out whomever was speaking at the east side.
I repeatedly nudged closer and closer to the speakers; finally hopping over a rail to get close enough to see the individual talking. I observed the crowd, listened to the speeches, and noted the instigators weaving amongst the Tea Party crowd. They held opposition signs, shouted occasionally, and attempted repeated disruption. Free speech, they claim. Just not ours. I was only concerned about violence once; after a very agitated individual shouted at a speaker. He was not a happy looking fellow. It seemed like there was a blend of 3 groups protesting: Older concerned public workers (afraid of change; in a someone is going to take away my social security kind of way), the agitators, and the lunatics.
As I left, I noted the crowd had grown. I now see SEIU signs and other OFA droppings. As step back out of the surreal as I get further away from the Capital. The world seems normal again.
The parking garage is full of out of state vehicles now.
Ooh, ooh. I forgot about the lispy pair of guys walking behind me for part of the way. They were apoplectic over Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter for some reason. I couldn’t make any sense what that had to do with Unions, Walker, the budget, or anything. But, they were adamant that they were part of what was wrong with the world to these two. The world would be a better place if they just went away. Again, surreal.
Abe, this has nothing to do with whether or not a person has a higher degree.
The people in my school who went to submoron colleges and became teachers were the same sorts who went on to be laborers.
I blame my grammer and spelling on the public schooling I received.
As I mentioned I would, I went to the protest at the RI State House yesterday. I really haven’t commented on it because it was just so bloody boring. Lots of dopey signs and an abundance of drone like chanting. Like, if chanting could be converted to political power, we’d be in trouble. But mostly, the small crowd (maybe 250, me and mine included) just looked ridiculous. Dumpy speakers gave impassioned yet vapid remarks. Walker was called a dictator repeatedly. Fact free recitation of how lives were being destroyed were offered. I only made it through half an hour before I was bored to death. The most interesting thing I saw there was the wag who rested his whiteboard against one of the pillars at the entrance reading: “Union Bully Rally, 4:30”
I’d post some video, but why bother?
“The people in my school who went to submoron colleges and became teachers were the same sorts who went on to be laborers.”
Oh no, not those people…
Oh no, not those people…
That was just a big fuck you to the term working people, not a knock on what anyone does for a living.
I blame my grammer and spelling[..]
Mr B, you are a funny fellow.
I’m curious how the laws on recording apply to the stunt the left pulled on Walker.

What is nice to know is that Walker is exactly whom he claims to be. If that doesn’t rally support then we are truly fucked. I’ll be leaving Wisconsin then.
This made me think of an interesting point, private and publicly employed union members are kind of at odds to a certain degree. Public employees get typically better pay and benefits than their comparable private brethren, and the private employees are being taxed twice, by the government and the union to provide it.
Might be worth trying to exploit that little conflict of interest. If the Republicans had any brains or balls, I mean.
News people used to do disclaimers when they had a blatant conflict of interest. Aren’t most talking heads and TV newsrooms union? SAG, AFTRA, DGA, PGA, CWA, Writer’s Guild, Teamsters? And closed-shop union at that?
That’s a couple of excellent observations guys.
