The “the post-SuperBowl, post-Egyptian Jeffersonian Utopia delayed Monday morning quarterback post” post

I missed the last quarter of the SuperBowl last evening — well, live, at least — because my son got sick at the party we went to, and we had to drive an hour home. Then, his fever spiked to 105 in the early morning hours, so I spent the entire night up with him, alternating ibuprofen and acetaminophen dosages and applying wet wash cloths to bring his fever down.

Finally got him down to 99. So it’s time for me to get some sleep.

Post links to anything of interest in the comments here, and I’ll be back with you once I’ve gotten some rest. You wouldn’t like me now, anyway: not only am I irritable from lack of sleep; but I ate about 2 lbs of chili yesterday, and my body is having a good, noisy giggle reminding me of that particular transgression.

Seems SuperBowl XLV set TV records, despite the antics of the halftime debacle.

Conservative voters are fighting back against big government and unfair union practices against businesses through the ballot box. Just consider the impressive result of last November’s elections in Congress, governorships and state legislatures around the country. As conservatives continue to make congressional and legislative gains, the liberals and the unions are resorting to demonstrations and even violence to shut us up, or worse yet, to stop us from even daring to think and believe differently from their view of the world.

This type of liberal lunacy and attempted intimidation is not going to work. Too many people are smarter than that, and too many people are not going to just surrender their right to assemble, or any other rights in a free country. The people of Illinois successfully made their case to a federal judge to remove an injunction not allowing school children to have a moment of silence at the beginning of their school day.

I can only speculate that the lunatic that filed for the injunction in the first place was afraid that the school children might think about God. If the liberals are that afraid of an energized conservative movement in this country, then we are winning.

Big Brother government not only wants to tell us what to eat, how much to eat, when to eat, when to retire, how much to retire on, when to get sick and how to die, they want to tell us when to think, what to think, and when to not think at all.

That dog won’t hunt. Liberal lunacy is not in our national DNA.

It wasn’t the chili. It was…global warming!

Son’s fever is back up to 103. And now we’re thinking what we thought was a rug burn on the back of his hand might be a rash.

    Sigh.

  8. Ernst Schreiber says:

Fevers are hard on moms and dads. Best wishes.

  9. Hope everything’s all right. We’ve got two with strep. Nasty.

I’m with you on the chili. I made the mistake of eating my wife’s vitamins last week when mine ran out instead of buying my own. Hers have iron in them. Now I have a cannonball in my ass and I ate two bowls of chili last night. I think I’m going to explode.

Or ask my math major wife to help me work it out with a pencil.

  10. Jeff G. says:

We called a nurse, and she had us check his tongue. Had dots on it. She thinks it might be strep. My wife just left to take him to Urgent Care.

Ironically, he had his yearly check-up late last week. And as always happens, he likely caught this thing from the pediatrician’s office.

I’m just very worried at the high fever. It seemed to break last night but now it’s back.

  11. JD says:

We will say an extra prayer. Take care of yourself too, in the process.

  12. Joe says:

That is very scary. I hope he quickly recovers. I hope you get some sleep.

    Was it the bean dip?

  13. Joe says:

Oh, strep from the doctor’s office. We have been there. Done that. Fortunately no superhigh fever spikes (at least from that).

Shell Oil has canceled its plans to drill for oil in the Beaufort Sea north of Alaska in 2011, but will now set its sights on the summer of 2012. The company has run into repeated regulatory hurdles in its attempts to explore for oil in America’s slice of the Arctic Ocean. Most recently, in late December 2010, the Environmental Appeals Board (EAB) sent air quality permits granted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) back to regulators for revision. Pete Slaiby, the VP of Shell Alaska, cited “tremendous uncertainty”—and frustration—during a press conference in Anchorage to announce the decision. The company has been seeking the required permits for the past five years.

Shell had been prepared to drill in 2010 in multiple sites off the northern coast of Alaska, but those projects were put on hold following the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. The company’s plans for 2011 called for a small armada of support vessels to accompany the Noble Discoverer drillship to the Beaufort Sea’s Camden Bay, where it would drill in shallow water. No energy company is currently exploring for oil and gas offshore in the region, though exploration is going forward in waters controlled by other arctic nations.
