Civility!

Tom Harkin: “If the people elect these crazy Tea Party people to come in here and they vote to do these wacko things…”

So what you’re suggesting, Mr Harkin, is that, say, Rand Paul is crazy for wanting to streamline government and return us to our Constitutional mandates, but your having lied about flying F-4 and F-8s in combat missions over North Vietnam when you were really flying them out of Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, after the war, is a sign of more responsible leadership?

Okay.

By the way: 1992 called. It wants you to shut up. Still.

I would rather shave my pubes with a reciprocating saw than listen to Tom Harkin for five seconds.

  2. sdferr says:

Iowans, bless their hearts, seem to love him. Go figure.

  3. Darleen says:

    “… then we’ll have a real election.”

Typical leftist … when anyone else wins, it is illegitimate or the person is inauthentic.

    good.lord.

  4. Obstreperous Infidel says:

He was too cowardly to say stupid, too. But you know he’s thinking it.

  5. McGehee says:

I felt sorry for ol’ Tom when he was married to Roseanne.

  6. cranky-d says:

Look what it did for his career, though, McGehee.

  7. alppuccino says:

These idiots live under the blanket protection from ever being punched in the ear for what they say. So rather than staying in shape and working on their reflexes in case they have to duck a right hook, they eat like fucking pigs on America’s dime, and spout off their uninformed, consequence-free bullshit.

  8. alppuccino says:

Bring dueling back is all I’m saying.

  9. geoffb says:

    Civility indeed.

America’s liberal left is preoccupied with salacious fantasies of political violence. These take two forms: dreams of leftist insurrection, and nightmares of reactionary bloodshed. The “mainstream” media ignore or suppress the former type of fantasy and treat the latter as if it reflected reality.

Somebody should email that link to Brian Kiteley. For the balance.

“Eat the rich” is, mysteriously, regarded as no kind of implicit threat at all.

Via commenter Smoovev comes the latest example of well-respected former war correspondent Chris Hedges advocating political violence in America:

Here’s to the Greeks. They know what to do when corporations pillage and loot their country. They know what to do when Goldman Sachs and international bankers collude with their power elite to falsify economic data and then make billions betting that the Greek economy will collapse. They know what to do when they are told their pensions, benefits and jobs have to be cut to pay corporate banks, which screwed them in the first place. Call a general strike. Riot. Shut down the city centers. Toss the bastards out. Do not be afraid of the language of class warfare—the rich versus the poor, the oligarchs versus the citizens, the capitalists versus the proletariat. The Greeks, unlike most of us, get it.

However, when Francis Fox Pivens says almost the same thing and Glenn Beck merely quotes her … it is crazy, whacko, nazi, facist BECK who is engaging in “incendiary rhetoric” and Pivens who is the “victim.”

  14. Blake says:

Tom Harkin pretty much tops my list of politicians I despise.

Although, Jim Moran is right up there with him.

It was a tough decision to make, being as there is a rather large field of viable candidates. But, in the end, I had to go with Tom Harkin.

  15. sdferr says:

Still the Iowa caucuses are the kickoff point for the Presidential nomination process. Perhaps it’s merely an ancillary function of following a “saving the best for last” principle that we would want to make the worst go first? Or how’s that working out for us?

    Cornholio, suckers!

  16. LBascom says:

“If the people elect these crazy Tea Party people to come in here and they vote to do these wacko things…”

Know who else is a crazy wacko? That fella that shot the sainted Giffords woman. Humm…

  17. Squid says:

Harkin knows that his precious farm subsidies are going to be first against the wall. Harkin knows which side his bread is buttered on. Harkin is facing an existential crisis, and his lashing out is to be expected.

How’s a guy supposed to react, when his promised sinecure at ADM suddenly vanishes?

  18. sdferr says:

Sleeper then says what he thinks of McWhorter. Because McWhorter criticizes Piven, he calls him “a young black linguist-turned-conservative racial bargainer.”

    Oh, the humanity!

  19. Makewi says:

The only violence, actual or threatened, that a certain segment of the left cares about is that which allows them to change the course of the conversation to that which they prefer to talk about; namely how much the RIGHT sucks, and by contrast how much they are the way and the light.

No one needs to talk about the possibility that Cloward Piven did actual harm to a large portion of the black community now. That shit is, like, yesterday. Today we have DEATH THREATS!

As a bonus, this helps us to attain a perfect level of no one needing to know nothing nohow since smart and good people are on it. On our behalf. Let us praise them.

  20. geoffb says:

First I would like to compliment you and the entire staff of “The Mikado”… However, I must call you on something that was inserted into the play which I am almost positive was not in the original book.
    […]
Now, I realize you play to a mostly liberal audience in Missoula and so, I am sure, felt comfortable in your calling for the beheading of Sarah Palin. I am painfully aware that most in the audience tittered with laughter and clapped because “no one would miss her”

  21. Loren Ibsen says:

““Eat the rich” is, mysteriously, regarded as no kind of implicit threat at all.”

The left is welcome to eat me.
