“The State Against Blacks”

From the WSJ’s weekend interview with Walt Williams:

“Sometimes I sarcastically, perhaps cynically, say that I’m glad that I received virtually all of my education before it became fashionable for white people to like black people,” writes Walter Williams in his new autobiography, Up from the Projects. “By that I mean that I encountered back then a more honest assessment of my strengths and weaknesses. Professors didn’t hesitate to criticize me—sometimes to the point of saying, ‘That’s nonsense.'”

[…]

“You find more and more black people—not enough in my opinion but more and more—questioning the status quo,” [Walter Williams] says. “When I fill in for Rush, I get emails from blacks who say they agree with what I’m saying. And there are a lot of white people questioning ideas on race, too. There’s less white guilt out there. It’s progress.”

I suppose so, yes.

Still. Faster, please.

It is not just blacks…Dan Carlin did a pretty good take on the Age of Exploration (or Globalization 1.0). He notes the whole issue is loaded with the 19th century version of history of white People being super good vs. the late 20th century version of white people being super bad.

But then again this advice is pretty good too.

That link is frelled up, but I tried searching the site for the article, and got the same result. So, someone there messed up the page somehow.

  3. Joe says:

Cranky-d: I just hit the link for the WSJ article and it worked. Try it again.

I must be on the special “crap” DSL because I tried again with Firefox and Explorer and get the same result, crap.

Until more black and brown people honestly evaluate and embrace classical liberal ideas, we’re hosed. It’s only brilliant folks such as Williams that give me any hope. More questioning, please!

  6. geoffb says:

    Try the print version cranky.

  7. cranky-d says:

Thanks, geoffb. As it turned out, the page was messed up but if you scrolled down far enough, you could read it. Still, whoever hacked it together needs to be hung by their thumbs.

    Bad html! Bad!

Sometimes chanting “Write the check,” about 40 black ministers and protesters gathered at a suburban New Orleans church, demanding faster action from the BP PLC claims process.

Ministers said failure to pay fishermen and others affected by the BP oil spill has led to widespread suffering, as well as lower donations for area churches.*

I want my handout, and I don’t care who gives it to me, as long as I get it.

  10. geoffb says:

about 40 black ministers and protesters

So this is a racist thing by BP.

  11. Loren Ibsen says:

America will have arrived the day a black man is allowed to fail on the merits.
