Ode on an idealized idea of the Teamsters, c. 1968; revised 2004

“The Symbol” – variations on a theme

When I was hitch-hiking down to Boulder,
Peter Pan stopped and picked me up. He was driving
a truckload of Angus beef cattle to Denver.
“Do you like being a truckdriver better than you do a lost boy?” I asked.
“Yeah,” Peter Pan said. “Hoffa is a lot better to us forever boys than Captain Hook ever was.
  “The old fart.”

  1. max says:

Seagulls are much better for the heart than angus beef. Lean.

More bones though, and more work in the preparation…

I had a lot of trouble making

up my mind whether to eat chinese

    food or have a hamburger.

    Despite myself, I said:

“Give me a hamburger with plenty

    of onions on it.”

“But what kind of hamburger is this?”

    Marcia would ask.

I’d hand her a flower and regret everything

    immediately.

  2. Excellent, Max!

Unfortunately, I live inland now, so Angus Beef and Peter Pan it had to be.

Fortunately, I like both hamburgers and Chinese food.

Marcia I hardly remember.  But I feel close to her nevertheless
