Sounds bad, doesn’t it? — this knowing that illegal aliens can attend California colleges at a rate much lower than can citizens from other states? Perhaps we should all remember that when California’s broke ass comes begging for a bailout from the rest of the union.
On the flip side, though, I find that if you replace “illegal immigrants” with “undocumented future citizens who represent the best and most noble of us, and who only want freedom and the American dream, and are willing to face great dangers from xenophobic nativist scrubweedbillies to come pick our fruits and wash our dishes, which no American is willing to do (despite an effective unemployment rate in the state of about 22%),” the whole outrage goes away.
Go on, give it a try…
See? Was I right or was I right?
(h/t TerryH)
California should just keep this up.
It’s going to end so well.
I’m looking forward to the day when California’s broke ass comes begging for a bailout. I think that day shall prove…instructive. One way or another.
Maybe California can join the EU.
Test. Thanks, Jeff! Now the world won’t be denied my wonderful comments… er, um, well, you know what I mean.
Say, how do I add the profile picture?
Register at Gravatar Colonel John, associate a picture you like with the e-mail you used to register your PW account with, and voila it will show up each time you toss your pearls before, well, us :)
Every time someone shows up now post-registration it makes me feel like we’re getting the band back together.
We’re on a mission from God.
But let one of these illegal students drive with no license, and we get medieval on their asses–three days in jail, and then probably back to the books.
I wonder how Californians feel about their broke-ass-selves underwriting illegals to get college educations.
If illegals are so important to do the “jobs Americans won’t do”, why are we encouraging them to educate themselves beyond what those jobs require? Are there jobs that “Americans won’t do” that require college degrees?
Social Justice!
I wonder how Californians feel about their broke-ass-selves underwriting illegals to get college educations.
As a Californian, I think it’s a travesty and just one of the many Many MANY reasons why this state’s on an Express Elevator to Hell… Going DOWN!!
Of course, I clearly don’t represent the majority view of Californians… as was demonstrated amply on Nov 2nd.
Oy, my retirement funds are getting hammered quite enough as it is thanks. Besides, even the EU couldn’t be that dumb, could it?
Gravatar hates me…
Oh well, I’ll try to solve it – I stand a better chance of figuring out Gravatar than CA does it’s fiscal mess, so I have that going for me.
Make sure you add the email address you used to register here to gravatar.
Circling the bowl….
My getting out of that pit 10 years ago suddenly seems prescient, though as a 3rd-generation CA native, I hate to see what’s happening to what used to be referred to as the Golden State.
Wow, it’s me.
So, back to that Undocumented Student issue… I wonder how a suit against the CA State system would turn out, filed by, say, a citizen from Nevada or Oregon?
My cats are looking askance at me, wondering why I suddenly let loose a howl of laughter. Fuzzy tails all around.
Sounds like a good question to me Colonel John. I wonder if they’d have standing, as y’all say in the law business.
I think the suit is by out of state US citizen students paying the higher tuition.
#19 – as motionview said. You might even get an applicant to do it. But the better would be someone stuck paying out of state tuition – I would absolutely love to hear the rationale given by CA, as to why a citizen from 3 minutes away from CA should be charged more than someone not even in the country lawfully…

This is tarded I think more for the reason that out of state students are likely to stay in California and look for work in California after they graduate. This policy at a time when your better tax-paying sorts are fleeing the state cause of it’s so failshit and floundery is unwise I think.
I find LTC John’s avatar threatening, and I cannot believe that our host condones such violent behavior around here. What kind of community is this, anyway?
I lived in California for two years, and it was the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. But there’s no way in hell I would ever move back, and it’s because of things like this.
But, Squid….I am smiling!!!
But, Squid….I am smiling!!!
That just makes it worse. You obviously enjoy the violence.
Damme! I’ve been found out… a little of the old horrorshow tolchok, or chaining someone in the glazzies makes for a fun night out, me droogs.
– Droogs don’t let droogs chain in the glazzies sober.
OT – California has the absolute Xanado climate for growing hemp. Once you understand that, everything else that happens here makes perfect sense.
I’ve got a kid headed to college in a couple and I’m thinking I mail him off to Cali with no ID and a roll of cash. He can sign up, I assume seeing as illegal immigrants don’t have legal US ID or SSN’s or whatever, so they’ll never know that he is, in fact, a citizen and not some freeloader from some place like, I don’t know, Michigan or somewhere.
But if you are some kid from a neighboring state, you don’t qualify as “illegal” so you are fucked on the special reduced tuition rate.
Suckas!
Are the undocumented undergrads willing to write papers that American students simply won’t write? Will there be crowds of them hanging out around the student union waiting for the gringos to roll by and hire them for a day’s studying?
OK, “scrubweedbillies” is my new favorite word.
Sad to say, but I have a hard time getting worked up over this.
It’s kinda like saying “Oh no! Fleas! That huge, angry bull in the living room has fleas!”.
I’m not really outraged, either. I’m saving my outrage for when California comes begging to the rest of us to educate their illegals and feather their unions’ nests on our dime.
Like I said up top: that day is going to be very instructive. Either the Union agrees to bail out the Calis, or it turns them away. No matter what, them’s gonna be interesting times.
Outrage is incremental. This is just another building block to that moment when we go ALL CAPS ON THEIR ASSES!
Yet another death threat I see.
Not happy about it one bit.
OTOH, I wonder how broke-ass New Yorkers and not-so-broke-ass Texans feel about it:
I’m hearing rumors that the more conservative TX legislature is going to open with a bang by proposing an Arizona style law, and Perry has indicated he’ll sign it.
Touche Spiny Norman.
I’ll definitely have to start bitching about that to my broke-ass NY legislature.
Call me an optimist, but I think this could pay off in the long run if it were done widely enough. Educate ’em and then send ’em back to Mexico.
Mexico’s big problem isn’t lack of resources, but a long, deep-rooted tradition of corrupt government and people who either (a) shrug their shoulders and accept their lot or (b) start revolutions. A generation of Mexicans with an American education could change that. Then Guatemalans can sneak across the border to mow Mexican lawns.
