   Wouldn’t the full throated support of the establishment Republicans for the Tea Parties — backing them and their work, encouraging and supporting them — be a salient indicator of a genuine rebirth? And the absence of this dawning realization in the minds of those same establishment types be an indication the time has not arrived quite yet (though I think it is surely coming, right on the heels of the now defeated Democrat Blue dog ordinaries realizing they need to put down the left in their own party, or else abandon it altogether to become Republicans themselves).

   Something tells me the usual suspects would feel right at home there.

    I think the New York Times is spoiling for a secession fight; they’ve posted Abe Lincoln victory disunion stories two days running, comparing but not-really comparing the red state – blue state post-election maps. Down, hippies, down! Real punches, they hurt.

    Looking at the US political situation today, if it weren’t for the probable continuation of slavery, one wonders whether we would have been better off if the secession had been allowed to take place. The South would have become a lot like Mexico, a third world country dependent on agriculture and cheap labor, and the industrialized north would have prospered without the drain of the backward-looking south.

    And PROGRESSIVISM! would have saved the DAY!

    Problem is, the North would likely be speaking German right now.
