Tea party conservatives, libertarians, independents, Reagan Democrats — all drawn to the classical liberal message of smaller government, less bureaucracy, cuts in spending and onerous regulation, and the protection of individual liberties — won’t be going away now that the elections have come and gone.
So in case you think we’re not watching, be advised: we most certainly are.
And everything is a test.
Good luck.
(thanks to Winston)

Eh? What’s that you say sonny? Well of course we’re listening. Now here’s a shiny new penny – run up to the corner pharmacy and treat yourself to all the candy you can eat.

First order of business: make ’em lay off Sarah Palin.
Not because she’s the next God, but because they need to stop deferring to the beltway establishment for their opinions.
Time for a little party discipline, say I.
I don’t think there are any more Reagan Democrats. They’re either Republicans or independents. If they’re Republicans, they’re probably thinking about becoming independents.
It just so happened that I caught a glimpse of some CNN political analysis type show Saturday evening. The question up for discussion was: who deserves the credit for the GOP wins, Michael Steele or Newt Gingrich?
No, seriously, that was the question they were debating.
Mr Boehner professes he will listen to the people. We in turn should make ourselves available to be heard by him. Respectfully written letters and e-mail expressing our intentions vis a vis the established and establishment ways of conducting the public business — even an inundation of them — are in order.
John Boehner supports dirty socialist CHIP with his cigarette money in spite of having “led the fight” against it.
That’s a good measure of what a weak little ass munch he is I think.
The question is how much of an obvious winning message is undercut by the social issues which deeply affect how a sizable number of people – women especially – perceive the notion of limited government. To see these DC jerks going after someone like Palin as though the essence of what the TEA Party stands for caused damage to the GOP is rather stupid. But it does help us determine just which beltway whores need a little red laser dot on their foreheads.
Constant reminders, ongoing reminders, incessant reminders that their Congressional jobs are the peoples’ to take from them at the next election can’t hurt their understanding of the situation.
I’ve heard a rumor that women voted for limited gov’t this time.
Thanks Jeff for the h/t, and in other news, they are renominating Sessions to head the NRSC, who had a 1/11 record coming into the elections
God forbid they reward De Mint. That might make the party look bad.
(On a serious note, campaign committees are more about fundraising than anything else, including candidate recruitment; may explain why they suck at it.)
Wasn’t the Sessions person you are talking about in the House,Winston?
i think jeff sessions is a senator from…alabama- i love seeing him speak on c-span..
he’s got a good pause…
he’s my fave![ along with coburn}
Yes, that was NRCC, how do Texans end up ‘growing’ in office, could Harriet Miers have been worse
do you mean they’re renominating Cornyn?
That would be very unwise.
Pete Sessions (R) US H.R. TX 32
Jeff Sessions (R) US S. AL
no idea if they’re related
The Sessions in the House, if I remember correctly, seems to be fairly rock ribbed.
I got it from another blog, who linked the Corner, which got it from here;http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/pete-sessions-running-majority-whip-seeks-reelection-nrcc/story?id=12082535&page=1
We’ll be watching you.
This seems to work for this.
Pete Sessions sent me a letter back to my note to the NRCC that I could not give them money as I could not trust them. He said he understood and that I should please watch as they’d be trying to earn my trust. That was a year ago, too, not immediately following this election.
I almost sent the donation.
Btw, if you thought they were going to play fair;http://www.wlsam.com/Article.asp?id=2011666&spid=
i meant jeff sessions-not pete
those damn sessions! i smell a reality tv show..
with a wicked cool tv intro song
That was remarkably candid and forthright from a politician. No?
Very much. As I say, it almost elicited the desired cash.

That should convince him to listen to your concerns. There’s nothing like calling someone ‘butt-munch’ to get his undivided attention and cooperation.
Seriously – keep it up. You should make yourself a party of one in no time.
Not very influential, mind you, but you will be pure.
Someone ought to remind Congressman Bachus that before the TEA party protest movement started gaining momentum, the GOP establishment was very concerned about losing seats in the Senate.
Some of our Republican leaders seem to be as out of touch as Obama and the Democrats…
Will it take much more than a reminder of Sen Cornyn’s judgment in this case to persuade Texas Tea Partyers and conservative Republicans that it may be best that Cornyn be retired at the next opportunity?
the NRSC is a failed institution
Jonah Goldberg, interviewed on C-Span for 3 hrs yesterday. Take the slider to 2:11:20 and listen for the next three minutes or so, up to about 2:14:00 for his views of the Tea Parties and the problematics of majority coalition governing. Or, scroll through the transcription, where clicking on the transcript particles underneath will take you directly to the portions of the video transcribed.
THE GAGFATHER, Part II
The inside story of my epic struggle. By Keith Olbermann.
CUT TO: The interior of Keith Olbermann’s office.
OLBERMANN
These are my bought Democratic politicians, along with Rachel and Lawrence who owe me big time. And of course my counselor, my agent. He’s the one who arranged this whole thing.
GRIFFIN
Yes — Yes.
OLBERMANN
Sit down.
GRIFFIN
Well I was under the impression that you and I would talk alone.
OLBERMANN
I trust these men with my life, GRIFFIN (especially Maddow who has the biggest balls of the bunch). They are my family. If I were to ask them to leave, it would be an insult.
GRIFFIN
Well uh, it’s perfectly all right with me, but I should tell you that I am a blunt man and I intend to speak very frankly to you — maybe — more frankly than anyone in my position’s ever spoke to you before.
[OLBERMANN lights a cigarette]
The OLBERMANN family has done very well here in Secaucus. Not counting Fox’s competiton, you own, or, you control, two major time slots. The time slots were grandfathered in, so there is no problem with the board’s approval. Now, my sources tell me that — you plan to make a move against Scarborough. They tell me within a week — you’re gonna move Morning Joe out. That’s quite an expansion. However it will leave with one little technical problem. Ahh — The time slot will still be in Scarborogh’s name. And what will you do with Mika?
OLBERMANN
Mika is a good man.
GRIFFIN
Yeah, well let’s cut out the bullshit. I don’t want to spend any more time here than I have to. You can have the slot, the price is 250,000 dollars. Plus a monthly payment of 5% of the gross — of all four slots, Mr. Olbermann. And no more money to any Demcrat politicians, we have to maintain appearances. In fact, you will apologize to us all.
OLBERMANN
Now the price of the time slot is worth less than 20,000 dollars, am I right? The ratings at this dump are just above a public access station.
GRIFFIN
That’s right.
OLBERMANN
Now why would I ever consider paying more than that?
GRIFFIN
Because I intend to squeeze you. I don’t like your kind of people. I don’t like to see you come out to this New Jersey swampland in your weird eye glasses — dressed up in those silk suits – and try to pass yourselves off as real Network people. I’ll do business with you, but the fact is, I despise your masquerade — the dishonest way you pose yourself. Yourself, and your whole fucking family. Who do you think you are, Brian Williams?
OLBERMANN
Phil – we’re both part of the same hypocrisy. But never think it applies to my family.
GRIFFIN
All right, all right — some people have to play little games. You play yours. So lets just say that you’ll pay me because it is in your interest to pay me. But I want your answer and the money by noon tomorrow. And one more thing: don’t you contact me again — ever. From now on you deal through your agent with HR.
(then, to Maddow)
Open that door son.
[He starts to leave]
OLBERMANN
Uh, Phil — you can have my answer now if you like. My offer is this — nothing. Not even the fee for the time slot fee, which I would appreciate if you would put up personally. And you, Sir, will apologize to me publically.
GRIFFIN (laughing)
Good afternoon, gentlemen.
[He opens the door and walks out]
Why does Jeff always call classical conservatism classical liberalism?
Because it’s classical liberalism.
You see that more clearly in Latin America, in the first generation, after independence, they espoused that classical generation, After a decent interval, they devolved into the likes of Santa
Ana,(Mexico) Roxas,(Argentina) Portales (Chile) and the like, Conservative (meaning church based, authoritarian, mercantilist regimes) parallels are to Germany in the Bismark period
Kevin was kidding, right? I mean, you’ve only written about 100k words on the topic. Could be more.
http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/128185-sen-elect-kirk-could-give-dems-a-vote-on-disclose-act
How about this way of of looking at it. Republicans won roughly 25% of the seats that Democrats held in the House. They won 33% of the seats that Democrats held in the Senate. I fail to see why they are complaining about their Senate performance.
To take control of the Senate they would have had to win 61% of the Democrat Senate seats. The same feat in the House would have been to take 158 Democrat house seats. Bachus is asking for the moon and bitching that it wasn’t delivered in the proper gift wrap.
Well they were insured there would be no ‘math involved’ in this operation, it tends to mess with the narrative, and we don’t need that, do we.
