“A Crossroads Election”

Thomas Sowell:

For all its sweeping and scary provisions, ObamaCare is not nearly as important as the way it was passed. If legislation can become laws passed without either the public or the Congress knowing what is in those laws, then the fundamental principle of a free, self-governing people is completely undermined.

Imagine. It matters how you get there

The very reason for holding hearings on pending legislation, listening to witnesses on all sides of the issue, and having Congressional debates that will be reported and commented on in the media, is so that problems can be explored and alternatives considered before the legislation is voted into law.

Rushing ObamaCare into law too fast for anyone to have read it served no other purpose than to prevent this very process from taking place. The rush to pass this law that would not take effect until after the next two elections simply cut the voters out of the loop– and that is painfully close to ruling by decree.

Obama, frustrated that his (popular) grip on the country’s agenda seems to be slipping , noted the other day that he wasn’t a king.

But you get the feeling that he considers that a problem, not a feature of the American experiment.

Liberal fascism. Learn to recognize the early warning signs.

    By any means necessary.

  2. Yes he is supposed to be a king, but secretely I hope he fails. Becuase the wrong man won.

It ain’t the way I wanted it! I can handle things I’m smart — not like everyone says — not dumb, smart and I want respect!

If Obama fails, and Hillary fails, maybe, just maybe, I can come back.

I suspect that part of O’s motivation for socialism is his desire for the perks that come with being Pres of a Peoples Democratic Republic.

    Fevered rhetoric? check
gaseous DC feeling and government bloating? check
    budgetary headaches? check
    delusional thinking? check
    rash decisions? check
    voter nausea and fatigue? check

Damn. We had better take our medicine, starting next Tuesday

Funny thing about the voters — they don’t take too well to being cut out of the process.

I hope the little mousies enjoyed their fun time, because the cat’s coming back to town next week.

One thing about the Democrats’ approach to governing that has seemed obvious to me from long ago, but apparently not so much to them, nor even, when I’ve asked about what I thought I saw, to plenty of people nominally on my side of the political divide, is the plain as day lack of prudence as against the long run of their plans. The discredit attending the failures they’ve promoted now for many years running — opposition to American foreign policy interests, opposition to the American people themselves in their business enterprise or freedom of action — is doomed from its inception. How, I’ve asked, could they be so dumb?

Said it before, I’ll say it again.

The Founders moved the Capital from Philly to a malaria, mosquito-infested swamp on the coast for a reason. Sucked for the sitting President, but kept the Congress from meeting often and screwing the American public.

We should move the US Capital to Three Saints Bay, Alaska, Or Calico, California tomorrow.

Our little country’s dirty socialist media happily takes its marching orders from our failshit governing class – they fancy themselves a part of that class. Yes the fundamental principle of a free, self-governing people is completely undermined.

It’s pretty clear that they passed this stuff hurriedly because, much like with the Reagan and the effort to abolish the Department of Education, they knew that once enacted it was almost impossible for such new government constructs to be dismantled.

So even if imperfect in the present it would provide a framework upon which to erect a gargantuan unassailable entitlement. Obama said as much the other night to Jon Stewart, when he said Obamacare was far from perfect, but like social security, would grow into it’s role (paraphrase).

  10. Bob Reed says:

They counted on the voters having short mememory of their will being thwarted by the very representatives sworn to act as proxy for it.

    Thank God they were wrong.

It’s a lot easier than that: just unplug the A/C in the Capitol and the Congressional offices.

    BECAUSE OF THE CARBON FOOTPRINT!

I think we’re beyond “early” at this point. We’ve already observed the kid torturing animals to death, wetting the bed, and setting random fires throughout childhood.

Now he’s well into his 20s, abducts women off the street, dumps their mutilated bodies in the woods and keeps their livers in his freezer.

I think we can safely call him a psychopath now.

(Yes, I have been watching 2-4 Criminal Minds reruns per night. Why do you ask?)

  15. Vlad the Impala says:

What does bedwetting have to do with psychopathy?

That was months and months ago.

  16. Jeffersonian says:

Obama’s not a king, but neither was Juan Peron, and he and his missus still managed to fuck Argentina up for decades.

  17. He said that because his groupies openly express their disappointment that he is not a king. Wait. Was this his groupies or a MSM commentator that said that?

  18. McGehee says:

Was this his groupies or a MSM commentator that said that?

    Yes.
