“Americans now back to an even split over control of Congress – and a plurality favor another Obama term”

Which means, of course, that either the numbers are skewed, or about half of all Americans are some of the dumbest people on earth.

  1. Joe says:

All you need to know it is the LA Times saying this, which means you can discount the story as partisan bullshit.

  2. Joe says:

Here is a similar story that really does not tell you anything.

  3. Lazarus Long says:

    Complete and utter bunk.

  5. Ernst Schreiber says:

I’d say the idiot who wrote that headline, if it wasn’t the asshat L.A. Times blogger himself needs to be smacked on his nose with a rolled up dead-tree copy of the LAT.

  6. Ernst Schreiber says:

What that poll shows is attitudes towards Congress –they suck– and there’s nothing new about that.

The real news, if you click through to the Pew Poll press release is that the GOP has a 10 point lead among likely voters in the generic ballot question. So what we have here is likely voters saying that they’re voting for the GOP, even though they don’t think that GOP control of Congress is going to make a whole hell of a lot of difference.

Given the predominance of pragmatic aisle reacher-acrossers in the GOP caucus, I’d say that view was about right.

  7. The LA Times pulls this crap every election. This time they’re more desperate than usual. This paper cannot die soon enough.

  8. LTC John says:

I guess we’ll see in a week, yes? I get to go early vote today, ha!

When the House is removed from Nancy’s grip, I think we’ll see a whole lot of improvement. In’shallah Harry Reid will be gone too.

  9. sdferr says:

Bruce Banner, buttoned down conservative vs. The Hulk: + 60 in the House, says Bruce — rrrwrrrrr says The Hulk, way more than that Bruce.

  10. Ernst Schreiber says:

If I was a lazy hack troller, I’d say the poll shows that there are more Democrats who think it would be better if Republicans won than there are Republicans who think Dems should keep control. By a two-to-one margin no less! And also that there are fewer Democrats who think their party should keep control than there are Republicans who think that they should win control. That speaks to intensity, as in the Dems don’t have any.

(Reposted from previous thread because I’m easily confused in the A.M.)

  11. JD says:

I have no doubt that Barcky will win another term, unless he chooses to not run, which is as likely as the Cubs winning the World Series.

  12. Ernst Schreiber says:

Tried to leave a comment over at that LATblog Jeff linked. Nothing unpleasant, just that the Pew Poll doesn’t say what Andrew Malcolm says it does. TypePad wouldn’t let me. I’m taking that to mean that comments are closed, and that even Andrew Malcolm knows that Andrew Malcolm is completely full of shit.

  13. Ernst Schreiber says:

I’m not as convinced of that as I was this summer JD. Obama’s not going to pull a Clinton on us.

  14. sdferr says:

In’shallah Harry Reid will be gone too.

Pleasant it is indeed to muse on the pending absence of Harry Reid.

But, should the R’s not take the Senate, we’ve who? Dick Durbin or Chuck Schumer to look forward to? gack

  15. JD says:

Sdferr has a great point. Chuckie Schumer and DICK Durbin are exponentially worse than Hairy Reed.

  16. TheGeezer says:

The LA Times ran an article a couple of days before the Gray Davis recall that said Davis’ aides were confident of Davis’ survival. And, of course, there was this, run just a fews days before the election.

  17. Ernst Schreiber says:

I have a hard time believing that we’ll flip the House and not flip the Senate as well.

  18. Mikey NTH says:

I’ll go with skewing – amazing how the polls were saying something else until one week before the election – and wait for the November 2 results to confirm this.

  19. sdferr says:

    How’s Dino Rossi doing?

  20. Ernst Schreiber says:

Chuckie Schumer and DICK Durbin are exponentially worse than Hairy Reed.

Still, it might be fun to watch Chuck You and Dickie Durb duke it out. Durbin’s the Dem whip, so you’d think Leader would go to him, but a backstabber like Schumer is a dagger aimed at the heart of Durbin’s ambitions.

  21. Ernst Schreiber says:

    How’s Dino Rossi doing?

I don’t know. But I feel comfortable saying that he’s not outside of the margin of fraud.

  22. sdferr says:

That’s a comedy I’d sooner miss Ernst. Instead, I’m learning to sing the praises of Linda McMahon (while stifling an urge to wretch).

I have no doubt that Barcky will win another term, unless he chooses to not run, which is as likely as the Cubs winning the World Series.

Barack only goes down if the GOP finds some attractive candidate who is under the radar right now. Because the current crop of hopefuls are not going to get the job done. Or if Bloomberg decides to run and split the “progressive vote.” Which is about as likely as Tony Romo playing next week.

Obama is going to inflict tremendous damage, even if the GOP controls house and senate.

  24. sdferr says:

RCP average shows Dino down 2.2 %.

  25. Joe says:

Sdferr, Rossi has a shot but unfortunately there are enough libtards to Seattle to help Patty Murray win one way or the other. Ask Dino Rossi about vote counting.

  26. sdferr says:

“Ask Dino Rossi about vote counting.”

I would Joe, but I see he’s busy running for the Senate. Now what could that mean, I wonder?

Malcolm is generally conservative and very willing to stick it the Big Offal.

I suspect it’s a problem with the software.

  28. Mikey NTH says:

Joe: Or if Bloomberg decides to run and split the “progressive vote.

Never discount the effect an overly-inflated ego can have on people – Perot, Nader, etc.

  29. geoffb says:

Andrew is simply posting his resume, angling for a position in the WH after the midterm shakeup. Perhaps the rumors of Gibbs leaving are serious and the sharks are circling.

  30. Soiled Sockpuppet says:

I say we have a friendly poll predicting number of house seats won by Republicans, number of Senate seats, and number of Governors that are Republican vs Democrat on November 3rd (or 4th, accounting for recounts).

  31. Ernst Schreiber says:

I’m learning to sing the praises of Linda McMahon

Hell, sdferr, if we can elect a pro-wrestler governor, why not elect a wrestling promoter’s daughter Senator?!

  32. sdferr says:

    Why not!

That’s what I’m sayin’. Now get on with it before I lose my breakfast.

  33. Ernst Schreiber says:

Malcolm is generally conservative and very willing to stick it the Big Offal.

Fair enough Jeff. I withdraw my charge of asshatery. Nonetheless, he read that Pew poll with somebody’s asshat on.

  34. Pablo says:

In other news, I wonder how Deb slept last night.

  35. Darleen says:

LATimes is right there with dKos in credibility with it’s polls. They doen’t want to report the news as much as drive it.

Over the last few weeks its been all about the Dems “regaining their enthusiasm” and Pelosi saying she likes where Dens are positioned…

even as Jamie Foxx infront of the USC crowd tries to lead them in the next best chant since “Yes we can!” — “We’re not exhausted!”

Remember LAT and et al in the Lame Stream media are just another arm of the Dem party.

  36. Ernst Schreiber says:

It’s not an LATimes poll, it’s a Pew Poll that Malcolm Andrew has mischaracterized.

As much as I’d like to dismiss Pelosi as putting her best face on, I’m not so sure that’s the case. She has a better sense of the margin of fraud than we do.

    (That’s me being cynical –mostly)

  37. Matt says:

Speaking of Harry Reid, not sure you’ve seen this but Drudge is reporting people showing up to vote in Nevada are getting ballots that ALREADY have Harry’s name checked. If fraud arises from desperation, there’s going to be enough fraud in this coming election to make Al Franken’s bid for Senate look squeaky clean by comparison.

  38. Obama is about as likely to get reelected as the Bills are to win the Super Bowl.

  39. Darleen says:

    Ernst

how many people read through to the poll? HOW one reports the news with what spin can drive people to think the poll says the opposite then it does.

and yes, if it’s close the Dems will cheat. ie Franken (and numerous others).

  40. Jeff G. says:

If the Dems can retain power, the fraud isn’t likely to be investigated, Matt.

    So. There’s that.

  41. McGehee says:

Screw the polls, either way. To paraphrase Jamie Hyneman, Vote, damn you!

“Ask Dino Rossi about vote counting.”

I would Joe, but I see he’s busy running for the Senate. Now what could that mean, I wonder?

Sdferr, perhaps you forget that Dino Rossi lost to Christine Gregoire (after initially be certifed the winner) after three recounts, and after some votes were magically “discovered” in some Seattle back room (King County). King County was led at the time by Ron Sims (who know works for the Obama administration). So if you were wondering what I meant, that is what I was referring to.

  43. Ernst Schreiber says:

No argument from me Darleen. The LAT is as sloppy reporting other polls as they are with their own. I’m just trying to be precise.

  44. sdferr says:

I forgot nothing about that Joe. So . . .

  45. Joe says:

Sdferr, a cautionary point. Which means even if Rossi wins, we can’t county Patty out. As Stalin said, it is not who votes that counts, it is who counts the votes.

  46. sdferr says:

Does Rossi know this, ya think Joe? Or is he just a moron wasting his time, playacting the part of a candidate for office?

  47. […] the end of season poll-blowout, and this is the sort of poll that gets covered in the news. And generates strong reactions. All in all, a commercial success for Pew, even though its informational value is close to […]

  48. Ernst Schreiber says:

The more relevant question to my mind is, does Rossi have a legal team in place already, and did any of them work for Norm Coleman?

  49. Lazarus Long says:

“As much as I’d like to dismiss Pelosi as putting her best face on,”

    She has spares?

You know someting, you are a little bitch sdferr. Fuck you, I sent Rossi some money. What did you do for him?

  52. Joe says:

Patty Murray is a dirty bitch and will cheat to stay in office. I hope she loses.

  53. sdferr says:

Lets see. I guess I just argued he’s smarter than you give him credit for being Joe. Good enough?

Took awhile to get this poll to come up after Drudge linked it. He took the server down.

Currently, two-thirds of Americans (67%) have a negative opinion of the job President Obama is doing while just over one-third (37%) have a positive opinion.

  56. Ernst Schreiber says:

As much as I’d like to dismiss Pelosi as putting her best face on

If she’s got other faces, I don’t want to see them.

  60. Joe says:

  61. sdferr says:

Funding — helping to fund — the good guy is a good in itself Joe, it may go without saying, so cheers to you for that.
