a protein wisdom MACH 2 filler post, because I managed only 2 hours of sleep last evening and plan on going right back to bed once I drop my son off at school

Man, is that Barack Obama in over his head or what?

— Which is why I like Republicans so much. They’re good and kind and strong and able, and they oftentimes wear American flag pins on their power suits. While those who oppose them are like, so totally not good and kind and strong and able — and like, oftentimes so totally don’t wear the pins.

Discuss.

  2. tforeman says:

Reject “goodness and kindness” as benchmarks for political decision making. Those are subjective. Those have given us a self-perpetuating welfare culture.
Give me a selfish SOB who is realistic and tells the truth.

  3. Joe says:

I like old school Republicans because they assume we are fallen and best left to our own devices.

Democrats think we are fallen too, but they want to fix us. Some Republicans fall into that group too. I do not care for that.

I do not want to be fixed.

  4. happyfeet says:

doesn’t president bumblefuck and his hoochie nancy pelosi’s insistent ad nauseum framing of Team R as the party of no mean that Team R will have a mandate for gridlock should the voters overwhelmingly vote to elect them?

  5. B Moe says:

How do they compare in their staunchiness, what I want to know.

  6. motionview says:

Bad day to give up the “sleeping pills”; nevertheless, I do not want to be fixed either.

  7. serr8d says:

Sarah Palin never fails to flaunt her good ‘ole American staunchiness. A woman for our troubled times, future leader of the Independent Republic of Alaska! (or as it may become known, “America II: the Restaunch”).

OT, but in case you missed it in that earlier thread where ‘feets was pummeled by the likes of Grizzly Sarah, Mark Levin calls a certain Left Coast blogger a ‘jackass’ and an ‘idiot’. Good times.

    Two whole hours?

The dillo must have kept the good mescaline for himself.

  9. Ella says:

This post almost could have been written by Megan McCain.

  10. Ella says:

I kid! I kid. It makes too much sense and has too much historical context.

  11. sdferr says:

Councilor Jeff Johnson: […] Government, from my philosophy, can be an engine of change. It is not always the quickest way to a solution, but it is the fairest way to a solution. Government seeks to bring fairness and opportunities to all, whether it’s class, race, gender, what have you. Because the private sector historically has not done a great job of being fair with minorities, with gender, women. And so government has to step in at times to make sure we balance it. So my philosophy is not your philosophy. And we’ll agree to disagree on that.

  12. Darleen says:

Good and kind? So not the “accepted wisdom” about anyone even close to being a REpublican. Unless you’re one of the “good ones” like Meghan or Sully or Frum or Brooks.

  13. Joe says:

Just don’t be mean, like Levin or Riehl. Because they are not very nice.

  14. Obstreperous Infidel says:

Mean people suck. It’s true. I saw it on a bumper sticker.

  15. B Moe says:

Government seeks to bring fairness and opportunities to all, whether it’s class, race, gender, what have you.

Did he really say that out loud?

  16. Joe says:

Government seeks to bring fairness and opportunities to all, whether it’s class, race, gender, what have you.

Did he really say that out loud?

Worse yet, he wrote it on his hand in advance. Or had it flash on the teleprompter.

  17. geoffb says:

So to be Meghan is to live a life of constant sleep deprivation? This does explain a lot.

  18. sdferr says:

In the video, when you talk about less government, we saw where less government had a horrible impact on the neighborhood of Slavic Village. It was ground zero in the foreclosure crisis. It was because an unregulated mortgage industry created opportunities for people to capitalize on the bundled Wall Street securitizations that caused a huge negative effect. Because there was no oversight on providing loans for houses four and five times their value. And so when you start looking at that, that’s where you look at where government can play a role.

  19. bh says:

    Dead-on analysis, Jeff.

(What’s the emoticon for a wry grin?)

  20. geoffb says:

    Councilor Jeff Johnson:
I’ve been in government almost 30 years now; I’m not a libertarian.

    Councilor Mike Polensek:
I came on this body 32 years ago. I’m a senior member.

Could be a trend here, a clue waiting to be picked up and looked over.Perhaps it is a matter of what is envisioned as a goal?

    Councilor Mike Polensek:
What’s the difference between Cleveland and Chicago? People in Chicago, the corporate community, have not abandoned the city. They have reinvested, and they live in the city.

    Drew Cary:
But it takes a tradeoff, because when you get rid of the red tape and the regulation, you have to put up with people doing what they want. Sometimes, some of the things they do you might not agree with.

  21. george smiley says:

The CRA revisions mandated loans that would not otherwise be made, that’s an odd definition of small government

  22. ThomasD says:

Chicago has been many things over the years. But it has never been Cleveland. So, if nothing else, it has that going for it.

  23. TaiChiWawa says:

Politicians: “Interest rates are low; it’s a pity that high-risk borrowers can’t take advantage of them.”

Researchers: “You know, manually-underwritten, high-risk loans have historically performed relatively well.”

Politicians: “Well then, loans for ALL high-risk borrowers!

Realtors, mortgage brokers, and securities traders: “CA-CHING!”

    Politicians: “See? Everybody wins!”
