Here’s the setup:
British singer George Michael said today he was retiring from the music business and intended instead to put all his future songs on the Internet – for free.
The 40-year-old pop star told BBC radio he would never make another album for sale in record shops, because he did not need the money and wanted to be less famous.
Michael is currently promoting his latest album Patience, but revealed it would be his last.
“I think it’s going to be my last commercial promoted release. I’ve been very well remunerated for my talents over the years so I really don’t need the public’s money,” he said.
Wow. This one practically writes itself, don’t it…?

It’s really gratuitous the way you always bring up the public restroom incident when you have a post about George Michael.
Is that all you can think about? Really, it’s Pavlovian with you.
Honest question, Joe. What are you talking about? Or is the irony so thick I can’t see the forest through the trees?
A bit confused myself, I must say. Nothing about a men’s room is mentioned by me in this post, and a quick search of my other posts yield these George Michael references—none of which mention Mr. Michael’s restroom escapades (here and here).
I suppose I may have joked about it at some time or another, but I can find no evidence in my own written history of having anything like a “Pavlovian” impulse toward mentioning Michaels’ misfortune.
Perhaps you are just kidding, Joe?
Yeah, it was a joke. The way I conceived of it, people would read my comment and say, “Ho ho! This fellow is so obsessed with the restroom incident, he imputes his fascination to others!” Honestly, I had no idea whether you had ever mentioned George Michael before in the life of this blog.
That’s a relief! Sometimes I forget what I’ve written elsewhere. So it’s always comforting to find out I haven’t put my foot in my mouth. Because it happens more than I’d like it to…
Don’t sweat it, I’ve also been known to pmm mm mmmm mm mm mmmth.
Ow! Slipped a disk.
