Here’s what the opponents of Arizona’s new law are saying, and it’s the most outrageously racist thing of all: Police should be allowed to ask anyone legally stopped about their identities except Hispanics.

Obvious Reality A: No American should ever be arbitrarily asked to show their papers to the police. I’m a Canadian so correct me if I’m wrong but this seems to violate the very essence of what it means to be an American.
Obvious Reality B: No illegal immigrant should be certain that they will not be asked to prove their status. Particularly in a state that has almost half a million of them.
The only way out of this that I can see is either to violate Obvious Reality A or B, as they are mutually exclusive. I don’t know which is worse.
Seems moot, in any case. We all know that Obama’s either resigned himself that he’s going to have a single term, and will therefore decree a general amnesty, or that he’s convinced himself that the only way he’s going to get a second term is to create 30 million Democrats via a general amnesty.

The “show me your papers” is a bit of bad faith rhetoric, Darrell. (Not on your part.) Every time I’ve been pulled over, I’ve had to show them my papers. They say, “Show me your license and registration, please.”
The tension between A and B isn’t real.
Not arbitrarily, no. But the reality is we still need to identify ourselves all the time, including most interactions you’re going to have with the government, including law enforcement.
I get asked to show my ID when I check into a hotel, when I make a credit card purchase, when I deposit and withdraw money from a teller at my bank, when someone orders a cocktail, and about 50 other times that are so ubiquitous that I cannot even think of them.

The facts is that the law makes no such provision. And the really inconvenient truth is, if the Feds would only do their job enforcing the laws on the books Arizona wouldn’t have to augment them by laws allowing the local law enforcement to do the Feds job.

That is a misunderstanding of the hispanical umbrage I think. Nobody likes to be conflated with violent criminals, and this law doesn’t target home invaders, who already would be in mas big trouble if they were caught. This law is looking for fail to signal a lane change people. Kane’s article is very dishonest and that is my feeling about the matter.

It is also this principle by which these hostile rulers explicitly aid “latinos” and “people of color” to pursue their collective best interests, regardless of the impact it has on the interests of true Americans. They openly plan how to best harm the cultural history of the majority of Americans.
