Reminder

I leave very early in the morning Friday (more like late tonight, if you’re a bar or club dweller) to head off to Chicago. I’ll be there until Monday.

Looks like we’re going to have a meet-up with a few folks who can make it tomorrow night — likely at a place called Emmett’s on Milwaukee Ave. We’ll also be going out to dinner somewhere on Sunday evening. If you’d like to meet, leave a note here or send me an email with your contact info before I leave.

I probably won’t be near a computer all weekend, but I’m sure the other posters will step up in my absence; for my part, I’ll be practicing some of the old ultraviolence. Just for kicks.

Have a great weekend!

I have JD’s email and will shoot him a line if Sunday opens up for me. Have fun.

  2. Bob Reed says:

Enjoy your trip JeffG, and your ol’ ultraviolence, mi Droog!

  3. dicentra says:

    Hey!

I just felt this Magnitude 5.0 earthquake!

    http://www.seis.utah.edu/req2webdir/recenteqs/Quakes/uu00002715.html

The epicenter is a sparsely populated area. I wondered when it would be our turn, what with the earth’s entire crust abuzz.

  4. Rusty says:

Just off Grand? I thought it was near Wally’s Polish Pump Room on Milwaukee near Devon. A good place to take a nap.

  5. David R. Block says:

Have ahold time and a safe trip.

  6. serr8d says:

Stay safe, and on your feet if possible. I hate on-the-ground warfare.

  7. geoffb says:

Wishing you a safe trip, good food, and good people to share it with.

  8. baxtrice says:

    Have fun Jeff!

  9. Mikey NTH says:

Enjoy the trip and the meeting, Jeff.

  10. Pablo says:

    I hate on-the-ground warfare.

It’s not so bad when you’re firing from the prone position.

  11. JD says:

Should any of you want to get together Sunday night, do not hesistate to get in touch with me.

  12. Ric Locke says:

    Have a good time, Jeff.

On a downer of a topic, for those who give a damn and recall my post of the morning: definitely a stroke. Upper left frontal, to make it worse — you’ve heard of a “lobotomy”? She didn’t die, but the woman I married isn’t there any more. I don’t know where I go from here.

I suppose it probably sounds like sour grapes, but it isn’t — I do sincerely hope that y’all have a good time. It would be nice to think somebody does.

    Regards,
    Ric

  13. happyfeet says:

    Ric I’m so sorry.

I hate that you’ll be back out of touch… you have my email.

  14. JD says:

Ric – My lousy grasp of the English language does not allow me to properly express my sympathy. Our prayers are with you and yours.

  15. Patrick S (not that other Patrick who may or may not be anti-semitic) says:

Who is heading up the Friday night meeting? Please email me at yoda_the_medic–at–gmail

  16. JD says:

I see how you are, Patrick S. Sunday night just isn’t good enough for you.

  17. SBP says:

Ric — my heart goes out to you.

  18. JHo says:

    I’m very, very sorry, Ric.

  19. Bob Reed says:

    Ric,

My prayers are with you and Bobbe. I don’t what the chances are of recovery, frankly, but I’ll keep you all in my prayers. I’m sure you’ll find the way to go from here.

God bless and keep you both.

  20. bh says:

Shit, I am really sorry to hear that, Ric.

  21. Bob Reed says:

    Ric,
I don’t if there’s any way I can help, but you can reach via Dan Collins.

  22. Obstreperous Infidel says:

My thoughts and prayers to you and your wife, Ric.

  23. Ric Locke says:

For the prayers and good wishes I thank everyone.

And that will be it for a little while. I’m going to go to my nothing little minimum wage job tomorrow, and I refuse to think about this for at least twenty hours — that’s how long it is until I’ll have to leave home to get to Harris for Neuro ICU evening visiting hours.

It’s enough to make me wish I was in or near Chicago. This would be a very good night to get shit-faced drunk, but I’m ‘way too old and creaky to do that by myself any more. Don’t need both of us in the ICU.

    Regards,
    Ric

  24. sdferr says:

Terrible news to hear about your wife Ric; my best to you.

  25. JD says:

I am going to make it one of my goals to get down Ric’s way and see to it that he has a good evening. Tis something I shall do.

  26. JD says:

That is something that I will be endeavoring.

  27. geoffb says:

    Ric,

I don’t have words, prayers for both of you.

  28. Jeff G. says:

Let me know if there’s anything I can do, Ric.

  29. Diana says:

So terribly sorry, Ric. Been there. It’s not going to be easy.

  30. Pablo says:

    God bless, Ric.

    Shit.

  31. Darleen says:

    Dearest Ric

you and your precious wife are in my prayers and thoughts

this is an awful time, I hope you’re blessed with wonderful doctors and angel ICU nurses.

You gotta know this gaggle has your back

    long distance hugs

    Darleen

  32. David R. Block says:

    Dang Ric. Hang in there.

  33. JD says:

I am waiting for Mal the Ter right now, and we will be thinking of Senor Locke.

  34. bh says:

JD, tell Mal I said he’d have an enormous [redacted] and mind control powers.

  35. Grace says:

Ric: This is just terrible. You are both in my prayers.

  36. Danger says:

“I suppose it probably sounds like sour grapes, but it isn’t — I do sincerely hope that y’all have a good time. It would be nice to think somebody does.”

You’re a good man Ric. Higher headquarters will be processing a lot of support requests on your behalf.

Be strong and know we care; Be still and know he’s there.
    God bless you and Bobbe.

  37. cranky-d says:

    I’m so sorry, Ric.

  38. Dan Collins says:

    Love.

  39. Silver Whistle says:

    Ric,

You and your wife are in my thoughts and prayers. So sorry.

  40. SDN says:

Guys, let’s not forget that a) prayers are nice, but doctors don’t work for prayer, and b) Ric has a website complete with donation button.

  41. serr8d says:

I’m so sorry, Ric. That’s heartfelt, and not very well expressible, but it’s genuine.

  42. Sinner says:

    OH MAN!

You wait until I move outta the Chicago area to visit???

    Actually… I can respect that.

  43. donald says:

Ric, my cousin is going through the same thing right now, they’re about 4 months in. She’s much better now. It ain’t pretty, and it’s a long time, but it’ll be better. I promise.

  44. Blake says:

Late to the party and you have my sympathies, Ric.

    Take care of yourself, okay?

  45. Cowboy says:

    Ric:

I know I sound like a broken record in times like this, but . . .

At 5:00, I’ll be in front of an altar praying a rosary for you and Bobbe. It’s hard to know what to say at times like this–but when things get so overwhelming as I’m sure they are for you now, I know all I have the strength to ask for is: peace.

And that’s my prayer for you and your bride, peace.

  46. Ric, let me know if there’s anything RTO and I can do. I’ll keep you and Bobbe in my prayers.

  47. LTC John says:

Nothing I can add, Ric, except more prayers, and I’ll see what I can scratch up so I can wander over to your site and hit the $ button…

    “I hate on-the-ground warfare.”

    Tell me about it.

  48. LTC John says:

Jeff, remember, I get the first round (when I make there).

  49. Makewi says:

I’m so sorry to hear that Ric. You both will be in my thoughts and prayers.

  50. Old Texas Turkey says:

    Ric.

  51. Mikey NTH says:

As I said in the thread above – I’ll find what I can find.

Best wishes and prayers to you and your wife, Ric.

  52. saxamaphone says:

jeff, are you getting a group together tonight as well?

  53. Rusty says:

I annoyed the almighty on your wifes behalf. Hopefully he’ll take it the right way.

I’m sorry I missed this. Drinking on someone elses dime is always preferred.

Try “Wok’n Fire” next time you’re in StC for a bite. If you like sushi, or Sapporo on tap.

  54. BJTex says:

Ive been super busy at work and timeless for politics.

Ric, my heart breaks for you. I’ve been known to complain about my professional lot in life but some things are more important. One of my closest friends is in the fight of her life against breast cancer and her example has been both inspiring and humbling.

I pray to Almighty God that he will bless the hands of the healers and the care givers; that He will bring you comfort when hurting, rest when weary, strength when flagging, and knowledge when uncertain. These words seem so inadequate under such difficult circumstances but, I assure you, they are offered with as pure a heart as I can manage.

Godspeed to both you and Bobbe.

  55. Danger says:

    Missed ya BJTex,

Would like to see a repeat of your governing principles you created a while back. I think they would fit in nicely on the Mt Vernon discussion thread.

  56. TmjUtah says:

    Ric –

Just returned from California; will put you and Bobbe in my prayers.

    Good luck.
