The time has come…

…for the crazed right1 to end the violence!2, 3

1 The 40% of Tea Party demonstrators who identify as Independent or Democrat, while certainly not violent, are nevertheless under the thrall of reactionary and racist far-right rhetoric, and so should be collected for reeducation. Because killing them with sticks takes away potential votes. Chicago excluded.

2 Sure, there hasn't been any actual violence to speak of -- at least, not from the Tea Partiers -- but we know what kinds of thoughts are running through the heads of these racist, xenophobic, anti-gay populist Klan types. Best to put and end to what hasn't yet begun before it begins. A strategy of preemption. Call it "the Newish Bush Doctrine" -- only without the 911.

3 Besides. Your speech? I'M ALARMED!

  3. Spiny Norman says:

Oh, I’m alarmed alright. I’m alarmed that the Federal government has its boot firmly on our necks, and tells us it’s for our own good. I’m alarmed at how blatant and shamelessly partisan our alleged “independent press” has become. They don’t even try to hide it anymore, and not just Chrissy “Tingles” Matthews, or the rest of his fellow pasty-white ghouls at MSNBC.

  4. Spiny Norman says:

    It’s all underground pamphleteer-like.

I’m still trying to find the footnotes.

  6. geoffb says:

As I have noted before “violence” is used politically as a term of moral equivalence. Casting a false equality on the actions of one initiating an attack and the defensive measures taken to defend against it.

Now it seems that even this equivalence is not enough to assuage the radical left as to the righteousness of their every thought and deed. Now even peaceful defensive measures are to be portrayed as hateful attacks on them.

Israel, as always, got there first, canary that they are. Building a fence, building homes, vicious attack. Blowing up innocent school kids, lobbing rockets into populated areas… [crickets].

Hint: the people to worry about are the quiet ones. The “small-mouthed libertarians” as somebody once put it.

  11. JeffS says:

The “small-mouthed libertarians” as somebody once put it.

Robert Heinlein is probably your source, but he was discussing anarchists and pacifists; the applicability to libertarians is limited to the “small mouth variety”, methinks:

“Those who refuse to support and defend a state have no claim to protection by that state. Killing an anarchist or a pacifist should not be defined as “murder” in a legalistic sense. The offense against the state, if any, should be “Using deadly weapons inside city limits,” or “Creating a traffic hazard,” or “Endangering bystanders,” or some other misdemeanor.

“However, the state may reasonably place a closed season on these exotic asocial animals whenever they are in danger of becoming extinct. An authentic buck pacifist has rarely been seen off Earth, and it is doubtful that any have survived the trouble there…regrettable, as they had the biggest mouths and the smallest brains of any of the primates.

“The small-mouthed variety of anarchist has spread through the Galaxy at the very wave front of the Diaspora; there is no need to protect them. But they can often shoot back.

The context was that of a Human culture on a galactic scale. But it’s easy to see how this applies to this era.

On first read, I thought that said “1911“. I hope that’s not the violence inherent to the crazed right.

I think not, but just in case it is, I denounce myself.

I REALLY have to read more Heinlein.

  14. Pablo says:

All there really is to say about this that hasn’t already been said is “Oh, fuck off.”

Go find a bed to hide under and STFU.

  15. Pablo says:

Oh, and fuck that filthy piece of shit Maxine Waters.

You, Madam Congresswoman, could suck my dick if I didn’t have so much self respect.

  16. JeffS says:

I should have sourced that Heinlein quote: “The Notebooks of Lazurus Long“, related to and excerpted in his novel, “Time Enough For Love”.

  17. JeffS says:

Maxine Waters is a real piece of work, ain’t she, Pablo? She’s settling into the oligarch role quite nicely indeed.

    Profound. Don’t blink.

  19. LBascom says:

“We are in this together. Violence against one is violence against us all.

    Stop it.”

Did that sound like a threat to you? I thought it sounded like a threat…

If the current administration has its way, we shall all soon have the opportunity to demonstrate whether or not our bravado extends to more than typing.

Any administration that states that they will not use nukes even if nuked is trying to shred a damn sight more than the Constitution, friends.

    Gird your loins.

  21. Well, Rick Moran has weighed in. Now we know which side to be on. Not his.

  22. Jeff G. says:

The GOP and the more “serious” new media outlets selected voices like Moran’s to guide us. That wasn’t a mistake.

And yes, I’m bitter about it.

Good man my bollocks. Drink in the fucking fail, you wannabe-genteel fucks. You helped usher in what we can only hope isn’t a permanent loss of freedoms — all because you’re afraid of speaking confidently about what you believe in. Instead, everything must be tailored to the sensibilities of the left — though you couch it as “appealing to the moderate middle.”

If you can’t sell it on its own merits, it ain’t worth pushing.

    Thanks a bunch.

  24. John Bradley says:

    From today’s Gregalogue:

(Greg was discussing the Gallup poll showing the Tea Party breakdown by demographic, and how closely it tracked with America as a whole.)

Now, you think the fact that tea-partiers reflect America will stop Matthews, Janeane Garafalo or Keith Olbermann from calling teapartiers violent racists? Of course not – because the left actually feels the same exact way about America that they do about tea-partiers.

If you’ve ever been stuck in a cocktail party in Manhattan, a pool party in Brentwood, or a comedy club in San Francisco – the concept of tea partiers being racist has existed for decades. They just weren’t called tea partiers, yet. Calling the tea parties racist knuckleheads is code for calling mainstream America racist knuckleheads.
