More Arafatada

So let’s see… The ten-year anniversary is tin or aluminum, the twenty-year anniversary is china, thirty is pearl… Remind me again, what’s the traditional gift for a thirty-five-year anniversary? ‘Cause sometimes I forget.

Well, if you’re commemorating the 35th anniversary of the Six-Day War — and you happen to be a Palestinian terrorist — the answer is Semtex: “Bomb Kills 16 Israeli Bus Passengers“:

Sixteen people — 13 of them Israeli soldiers — were killed in northern Israel Wednesday morning as an Islamic Jihad homicide bomber blew up the car he was driving alongside a packed commuter bus.

In a first response, Israel sent two dozen tanks into the West Bank town of Jenin, the assailant’s hometown.

For the first time, the Palestinian Authority — while condemning the suicide assault — said it had no advance knowledge or any ties to the attack.

Israel held Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat responsible.

Again. If Arafat had foreknowledge, he’s guilty of murder and conspiracy. If he had no foreknowledge, he’s a relic, and should be brushed aside in favor of a leader who has some kind of control of his murderous, exploding populace.*

But it gets worse. Israeli intelligence sources are confirming now that the horrific Passover Massacre was designed to produce even more carnage than it managed to produce — via the aid of a chemical component, specifically cyanide. “Passover Bomber Planned Cyanide Attack

The Palestinian homicide bomber who killed 29 people in the Passover Massacre intended to use deadly cyanide gas to kill countless more Israelis during the attack, the Israeli military chief of intelligence disclosed Wednesday.

Israeli security experts also said Palestinian militants were trying to escalate the number of casualties resulting from their attacks by working on a ‘mega’ terror assault.

The failed attempt to use cyanide gas was allegedly part of the March 27 bombing of the Park Hotel in coastal Netanya. The attack killed 29 Israelis and triggered Israel’s six-week military offensive against Palestinian militants in the West Bank.

Maj. Gen. Aharon Zeevi on Tuesday briefed a parliamentary committee about the attempt, army spokesman Brig. Gen. Ron Kitrey confirmed Wednesday.

Zeevi said a technical mishap prevented the release of the cyanide gas. The daily Maariv, which reported the Zeevi comments, did not say what prevented the cyanide release.

Maariv quoted Zeevi as saying — and Kitrey confirmed the assessment — that Palestinian militants were trying hard to carry out a so-called mega attack, with scores of casualties.

Remember Bush’s West Point speech last weekend? Israel should take a page out of Bush’s book and do what they have to do. And soon…

*thanks Rand. Interestingly, I wrote this post up, then ran out to give a final exam. In College English. Heal thyself, Jeff…
