Feel it, people.

Feel it.

  1. newrouter says:

what a horrible song no bitches or ho’s

  2. I feel like I’m gonna…

  3. Bob Reed says:

If only Dave could find it in his heart to say this to Sarah…

You know, and stop the cycle of hate and pain…*sniff, sniff*

  4. B Moe says:

My balls ran and hid behind the refrigerator and I can’t get them to come out.

  5. Makewi says:

Seems that Air Supply met and formed while “performing in the Australian production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice musical, Jesus Christ Superstar.” Since they apparently had the mandate of heaven, I have nothing further to say on the matter.

  6. Styx says:

People said we were too gay.

  7. Makewi says:

Although you know it occurs to me that Ian Gillian was also once in Jesus Christ Superstar. He might have taken Air Supply in an entirely different direction, had the fates been different.

  8. serr8d says:

    That was ’80’s?

Yeah, I guess so. I must’ve already ripped the radio out of my car and flung it out the window by then, because of Toto or Chicago or something.

  9. pledgepolish55 says:

Hey, the Toto soundtrack for “Dune” kicked ass!

  10. Bob Reed says:

    This takes me back…

Ah yes, to the days of my misspent youth, long hair, 1969 Ford van(if it’s a rockin’, well, you know), Ganja, booze, girls, and beautiful summer nights learning to experience life…

I had to give it all up to really make something of myself; but oh, those lovely all night parties celebrating nothing but life itself and the experiences of that very moment…

And, over the years, I’ve turned many pages, written many chapters, and experienced many “lives” (so to speak), all exciting, sensual, the essence of joie-de-vivre…

And while the summation, so far, is truly la dolce vita, this song takes me back to when that journey began, when life was as fresh and hot as those summer nights…

  11. Bruce says:

    Wow.

That song managed to bring me down.

    .

  12. Bob Reed says:

    C’mon…

You said you were looking to “feel the schmaltz”…

I was simply feelin’ the flow…

So sue me; but remember my wife’s a lawyer…

  13. OT: If this happened to me, I’d say “Oh no! I’m not falling for that again.”

  14. not bh, he's throwing a tantrum says:

Hey, Jeff, nice to see you posting.

  15. B Moe says:

Here is at least one very good thing involved with Jesus Christ Superstar, Makewi.

  16. happyfeet says:

there’s this restaurant in LA where we went and ate tasty foozle this one time and then we were leaving and there’s this picture in the entrance to where you would only really see it when you were leaving and this picture was mostly words. Words words words and I was looking at it and I got very intent on it and then I said to the pretty girl whose job is to stand in and around the entrance, I said is that Air Supply? She said oh my god no one has ever gotten that before. NG was very very impressed and she googled Air Supply the next day and then she was somewhat less impressed.

  17. Pablo says:

You know, I wish that I had Jesse’s girl.

  18. Jesse says:

    You’re a dick.

  19. No I will not feel your projection, you freakin’ perv, even though I’m all outta love too.

I am, however, stocking up on ’80’s sexy:

    Feel that, bitch.

  20. Obstreperous Infidel says:

I had her, Pablo. You do not want Jesse’s girl. Trust me.

  21. happyfeet says:

oh. here is my 80s song what I forgot about and then I found it accidentally and here it is. I really like the 80s you know why? There was just a really good attitude what prevailed and people were likeable.

  22. happyfeet says:

not sure why but it bothers me our tax cheat treasury secretary is a fucking liar

“This financial crisis had many significant causes, but executive compensation practices were a contributing factor,” Geithner said yesterday.*

lying like that to where you’re just lying and everyone knows you’re just a fucking liar is a sign of a person that is not very well-adjusted I think.

  23. Bob Reed says:

    All right, this isn’t 80’s, but it’s still kool…

All these sighing pink audio panty liners are giving me the lady-cramps.

    ARGH!

  25. serr8d says:

Nothin’ worse than powdered milk. Not even a ’77 Gremlin.

  26. Bob Reed says:

    This guy would whip Dave’s ass-no charge…

  28. happyfeet says:

this is me being a lot more in the spirit of the post than some people and also I don’t understand why y’all are afraid of your feelings.

  29. Pazzesco says:

Last time I heard that was at the drive-in. It sounded just as bad through that one cheesy speaker while we were waiting for War Games to start.

  30. Bob Reed says:

Never a big fan of these musicians, but the movie this goes with sure increased the number of on shore “confirmed kills” for everyone I served with…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPYF2p-cGx8

Good publicity goes a long way, yo…

  31. sdferr says:

I just do better feelings wise with Strauss’ Vier Letzte Lieder, for instance, than with pop music of any flavor or period.

  32. happyfeet says:

this is my song what makes me think of sdferr and his wife cause of that time sdferr commented about how he and his wife got some music I can’t remember off Amazon and they liked it very much or something. So this is an old married people song I guess is what I am trying to say.

  33. Pablo says:

    Oh. The 80’s, huh? Kewl.

    “I don’t care what you don’t like.”

    Best. Lyric. Ever.

  34. Jeff G. says:

I just mirandized myself. I feel so like a terrorist now.

  35. Bob Reed says:

Again, a bit earlier, but still worthy…

  36. i should be in bed. don’t feel right tonight, like i was in a bad transporter accident. but 80s videos are love. also, i probably wouldn’t have partied with most of you lamers back then. especially the hippies, who i usually spit on and told to get a goddam job and a fucking haircut, before skipping my big haired candy-flipping ass over to AREA or save the robots to dance the night away.

  37. pablo i love you for loving X. they are literally my favorite band. seen them more than any other. more than 100 times. <3 if i had the energy i would dig up my old journal entry about exploding a microwave oven with darby crash and assorted miscreants at an X show when i was still in high school. good times.

  38. Bob Reed says:

    Well Jeff,
Since you’re mirandized and all, if someone asks you anything you don’t feel like answering, just play this…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEU5vXmE5mU

    or a tougher one I plugged earlier…

  39. Pablo says:

pablo i love you for loving X. they are literally my favorite band. seen them more than any other. more than 100 times.

Where!? I fell for them in So Cal, and possibly have you beat in terms of having seen them. I believe I lost count due to intoxication. (And don’t get me started on the Knitters show in Hollywood…one of the strangest nights of my life.) But now that I’m back east, they show up here once a year. And I missed them this year, because I was in…So Cal. And now Exene has MS. Shit.

  40. Now, whenever I’m in the mood for some easy-listening, feel-good 80s music, I turn to this ex-Beatle.

  41. Bob Reed says:

    For psycho @26

Why am I not surprised by your contribution…

Here’s one of that bands leader, in a previous incarnation!

  42. Bob Reed says:

    TSI,

The Entwhistle solo you linked to earlier was…tits, man!

  43. Bob Reed says:

    Last one I promise…

From a different end of the 80’s British spectrum…

  44. shit is right. =(

i started going to punk shows in l.a. in ’77, and i went to almost every show until i left for college in 1980. the whiskey, the starwood, the troubadour (before the ban,) madame wongs, etc. i worked on a fanzine, one of my bfs was one of the caretakers at the old masque, and another bf was a bigtime radio DJ, so i got to go everywhere. then after i came to new york for college i went to nearly every show here for years, and any time i was back in l.a. too.

the X show where we blew up the microwave oven (we were trying to start a nuclear explosion but only caused a small fire — dumbass teenagers *sigh*) was at UCLA, probably ’79, but it’s a lot of crispy synapses since then, so i’m not certain.

and i was there the night exene’s sister died, the night of the first manzarek show at the whiskey too. god what a horrible night that was. exene was a trouper and went on, but she could barely do more than shake and it was a heartbreaking show to watch.

and this news blows goats. shit is right. i love that woman. all of them. they’ll be in my prayers tonight.

  45. Bob,

Yeah, he’s like a boxer working over a speed bag.

  46. Pablo says:

Oh, you caught them at the Masque? You fucking win, girlfriend. I caught up with them a couple of years later.

  47. Bob Reed says:

    Yet another Kabuki mask thor..?

  48. *yawn* ‘night, all.

  49. Jeff G. says:

Additional Jeff pic available here, for those who wished such a thing.

  50. it’s not 80s, so sorry to go off the timeline, but for pablo… here’s my other very most favoritest band (tied with X for my fangirl affections) from the ‘summer of hate’ early punk era in l.a.. and i was also very enamored of this dude (sorry, audio only,) and this guy too.

  51. dammit i fail at html. that link was not meant to cover that many words. but oh well. and nice pic. i liked the other one too, liked the toughness aspect. but this may be a better choice for newbies to see first.

  52. happyfeet says:

I like the Pony Boy shirt. Guy Benson reminds me of Chris Eigeman … before. He’s old and directorial now. He used to be very funny. He should direct something new. Maybe he’s in a lull. Or maybe something very dark has happened which this thread reminds is always possible.

  53. well i am going to bed. but, here is something yummy and pretty and charming from the 80s, to try to put this thread back on track. for some reason i want to dedicate it to mr. feets, in hopes it cheers him up.

    nite.

  54. happyfeet says:

Thank you! that is very on track. ABC knew exactly what they were about. Here. I had those shoes I remember. Near enough. I need to see this guy live before one of us up and dies or something.

  55. not bh, he's unhappy says:

You’d all have a different opinion on the 80’s if all the girls you knew didn’t have boobs in that decade.

  56. I just remember my mom liked that song enough to go buy the album.

I guess this shall be my contribution.

oh, and sdferr, thanks for sparking the usual “I’ve never heard of her” “cause your a doofus” discussion between me and RTO.

  57. oh, this is the one that always brings me down.

  58. happyfeet says:

they were good I thought, maggie. I kind of had them in category with Sade and these ones.

    Here
was probably one of the bigger but not uncharming WTFs of the 80s I think. She put together a very decent cd. Once. I think that was it for her and she was on to other things, which, she’s been a lot underutilized I think.

  59. happyfeet says:

oh. That second link what says Here should be this one. I did the basia thinger twice.

  60. happyfeet says:

Generally speaking I think one never looks as good dancing with a broom as one thinks one might.

  61. why was she doing the wrong song?

    so confused.

  62. happyfeet says:

She just had the one song here but I think several charted back home for her. brb.

  63. i tried to sleep, but i can’t. so first, my most sincere apologies to bh, cuz i didn’t get time to write your jrock thing yet. and to make this comment legal and semi on theme another viddie. it’s not exactly smaltz, but i never listened to much corporate arena type rock if i could avoid it (except zep.) especially in the 80s. so i don’t really know those songs as well. btw, these guys were the single tightest band i’ve ever seen perform live. really.

  64. Phil says:

Definitely glad Jeff is back…or is this just a short tease Jeff?

Dan has been doing a soldier’s duty (and admirably so) in your absence.

  65. happyfeet says:

Just a few did … and she did a second cd I never knew about.

  66. mojo says:

Oh good, a “depressing songs” thread.

  67. happyfeet says:

haircut makes me think of these ones … they were brilliant and then they went on and were brilliant some more in the 90s

  68. not bh, he's sad says:

That’s cool, louchette, take your time.

I’m thinking this thread needs a few songs that helped preteen boys imagine getting to second base with rock stars.

    1, 2, 3

  69. happyfeet says:

thank you for the siouxsie … I wonder what happened to them? I would google but I’m hungry.

  70. happyfeet says:

that makes me think of Book of Love but I can’t really find anything but mixes

  71. happyfeet says:

the 90s started with promise but then… mariah. Yeesh.

  72. and for sdferr though maybe not modern enough for his tastes. ;D

  73. happyfeet says:

oh. that swing out sister singer lady is also the lyricist it says … and they released a cd last year. No one tells me anything.

  74. Sammy says:

In other news, that fucking Obama sure turned out to be a SINO (socalist in name only). I had just perfected saying comrade with a Chicago accent, and he goes and starts de-nationalizing banks!

    WTF!

    http://dealbook.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/06/09/waving-good-bye-to-the-tarp/?ref=global

  75. sdferr says:

All Brahms all the time would suit me just fine maggie

What has become of that fellow Boggs who would pay for his meals with dollars of various denominations that he would create freehand while he was consuming his dinner? Boggs Bills. He had a good thing going there for awhile.

The mariah person belonged in the titties thread I think.

  76. yeah, hf, they’re one of my favorites and I have most of their albums that were released here, anyway. However, Beautiful Mess was kinda a let down. Corrine’s doing a bit of recycling lately it seems.

but, oooooh, they have a website. who knew? not me.

  77. happyfeet says:

I will download some later and just see what I think

  78. this should be embarrassing, but i have no shame. >_> i had such a mad crush on this guy, and this song. and this song is still one of my favorites too. oh and i think this is one of the most lovely music videos ever made, tho i couldn’t watch it for a while for reasons i won’t darken the thread with. and it is still great and beautiful, tho youtube doesn’t do it justice. i really need to try to sleep again. nite john-boy…

  79. night, louchette. I’ve made a massive sleepy-time fail tonight. thanks, everybody.

  80. happyfeet says:

this is interesting all the people Mr. Nevil’s been working with… I don’t get why his website is so sucky though

  81. happyfeet says:

    i hate frente

  82. Adriane says:

Not a song … but as good a definition of the 80s as anything else …

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxCR5KA47kU

  83. Salt Lick says:

Now I see why John Cusak said growing up in the Reagan years really screwed him up.

  84. Carin says:

Man, I missed a MUSIC THREAD? I had zero bandwidth last night.

80’s music was The Smiths and The Cure and U2. Punk music kinda peaked before I hit high school, or perhaps while I was a freshman. REM before you could understand what Michael was saying. Those were the good old days.

  85. Carin says:

As for Schmaltz … I really tried to limit my schmaltz. I think the most disturbing was the weak shit CSN put out in the 80s.

  86. B Moe says:

But now that I’m back east, they show up here once a year. And I missed them this year, because I was in…

They are playing the 40 Watt tomorrow night. Still time to get tickets.

  87. donald says:

Pablo, I love that song. They’re playing in Athens this weekend, right around from where Bmoe’s playing. donald’s going rockin.

  88. donald says:

Shoulda read the thread all the way down. Without question, to me, and I say I’m the world expert, the Alt/Country stuff was always the best. They went and grabbed the horn from the punk rockers and drew me back to country music, which I had totall rejected. All praises to Jason and the Nashville Scorchers, The Beat Farmers, X, and the Blasters. Without them guys and the Pogues, I’d probably be…rich.

  89. Pablo says:

Ah, I’d love to join you, gents. But it ain’t gonna happen.

  90. happyfeet says:

I never understood the whole deal with the Cocteau Twins. I tried to listen to them back in the day but I can’t remember how hard. I might give them a try later today and see what the old stuff sounds like these days. Maybe they were before their time or something.

  91. i never loved them either, feets. tho these twins i liked a lot. they were such fun.

btw, shall i keep posting stuffs here? (i could do this all day while i procrastinate on other projects. and would be happy to do, even if it were only you reading.) or would it be better to allow this thread a dignified end before the trolls (potentially) crap all over it?

  92. Abe Froman says:

I can’t believe I missed a thread with references to Save the Robots and the 40 Watt Club.

  93. B Moe says:

    These are my favorite twins.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYCaNcri6GE

Okay, they aren’t really, but I used to think they were.

  94. I did not know these were twins until I saw them on Red Eye recently.

  95. happyfeet says:

I still love the Thompson Twins and you know who has them on his iPod? Jeff. True story. I wish I’d checked back sooner. We will do this again. I didn’t know the fred ones were twins. They had another song I liked better than the one about the shirt. brb.

  96. happyfeet says:

this one … it was more fun I thought and it was cool how they let the background singer girl kinda run with it. He really is a lot averse to his shirt isn’t he?

  97. happyfeet says:

I have to be careful cause I have my headphones on but my speakers are on too and everyone leaves their windows open this time of year and the neighbors, they will judge me.

  98. you can see the interview here. iirc, they talk about the shirts.

  99. happyfeet says:

wikipedia says …In 2008, Right Said Fred returned to the UK to write and record their sixth album I’m a Celebrity. The title track is the first single from the album. It parodies “celebrity culture” and is already getting good radio support in the U.S.

  100. they will judge me

or come over for a party and drink all your beverages. not great either way, I suppose.

  101. happyfeet says:

this dirty little socialist dude I liked this song what he sang. If I remember right his career sort of choked on his dogmatic dirty socialisms. I kind of like thinking that so I’m loath to google and see.

  102. happyfeet says:

Actually I haven’t met these ones. Immigrants are where the I’m scared of bugs guy used to be and I have an American on the other side of me to where our doors open opposite each other. We’ve never run into each other but I like him better than the Internet hookup guy that was there before him cause I would step out into understatedly tense dramas and things what had undertones with odd and sometimes haunting snippets of conversations involved.

  103. ah, we’ve got some relatively new people uphill. but I keep wondering what they must think about me cause I always have to pet their dog when he’s out and that’s the only time I talk to them and I just ramble about dogs and cats. Today he had a huge E collar on cause he got fixed earlier in the week. kinda sad looking.
