Socialism Increases Social Mobility [Dan Collins]

NOT. Alan Milburn, Labour MP and advisor talks about how the opportunity gap between wealthy and not in the UK is widening. Of course, the only way to address this problem is . . . TADA! MORE SOCIALISM! Only more commissions, more policies, more regulation, more bureaucracy can create equal opportunity for all.

  1. Rob Crawford says:

Dan, Dan, Dan — the solution to all problems, particularly ones caused by socialism, is more socialism.

  2. The Monster says:

The Proggs have a fevah… and the only thing that can cure it is more cowbell socialism.

  3. Carin says:

One can see the affect of socialism on “social mobility” by taking a gander at the Correspondente’s dinner the other night. Normal folk have absolutely no access. Acceptable press, Hollywood stars become the elite.

Those with immense amounts of money (Soros) have a voice. Businesses with government links and lobbyists get a leg up. The rest of us?

Sort of like increasing spending – if it doesn’t work, it only means that we need to spend more.

I also noticed this morning the Sky Fire God once arose at exactly the time the Weather Prophet predicted to bath the earth in life-sustaining warmth. Other insightful observations available upon request.

Any non-Court economist will tell you that adding rules to a market locks the rulers and the ruled-against in place. That’s what rules are for.

The economic frontier is the last one. It’s closing. Who you are very soon is who you’ll always be.

    Outlaw?

  6. geoffb says:

Once everyone is in a government job and also volunteers* for the jobs government employees won’t do, you know those horrible things the now defunct “private sector” did, all will be peaceful, calm, and perfected.

*Volunteering is mandatory under law. Shirking is punishable by a term of not less than 5 years nor more than 25 years at hard labor. All volunteers are to be unpaid except for “Shock Workers” who will receive an extra ration of bread each day. All chains needed to be furnished by the volunteer.

And note the obsession with “gaps” between the “haves” and “have nots”. They are concerned not with how well the “have nots” are doing, but with the fact that somewhere, someone else is doing better. The solution to which, of course, is to take from the “haves” so that they “have not” any more than the “have nots”. And if, in the process, the “have nots” have even less, why the only thing to do is to take even more from the former “haves”.

The Progg ideal is equal distribution of misery. There’s a reason why “Thou shalt not covet” is one of the Ten Commandments, and it has a lot to do with why the Proggs have to get it out of the public square.

  8. Andrew the Noisy says:

Socialism makes everything worse, but the solution to bad things is more socialism, so that socialism will make everything worse yet, so we can have yet more socialism.

This is the greatest dodge in human history.

  9. geoffb says:

And yet the greatest of gaps occurs under fully developed socialism, see N. Korea.

  10. Abe Froman says:

This is what makes conservatives evil. All that patriotism, racism and Jesusness is a trick to keep poor white people from voting in their own best interests. Can’t have proper class warfare and revolution while the hicks are all goofy on God-vapors.

  11. Squid says:

Now wait just one freakin’ minute here! How the hell do you suppose a hundred million middle-class workers are gonna become penniless, jobless and dependent?

That’s right — social mobility! So enough with your scoffery!
